Missing INS?

Hi,

The INS is not showing up in any 2D panel. Neither are the icons Shift+7-9 available in the Icon Control Panel.

And yes, I have installed Delco Caroussel CIVA version 1.51.

What could be wrong?

BR,
Anders

Thank you for the tip.

So, I renamed the CIVA_panel.cfg to panel.cfg, and renamed the original panel.cfg to panel.original.cfg - then it works Smiley

But am I right, that the one in the VC is for display only (it shows the position coordinates) but other than that is inop?

BR,
Anders

Yes. You are right. Last I heard, Captain Sim hadn't gotten permission from the creators of CIVA-INS to incorporate a working unit in the VC.

Welcome to the forums.  Smiley Can you confirm that your INS/DOPPLER switch is set to INS and that you are running the AP in NAV (not HDG)?

If you INS is properly aligned and working in NAV mode plus has at least one waypoint loaded, it should work.

If you still have trouble, please post a screenshot of the INS unit. Maybe it shows an error code or something which could help. To post screenshots, you can use a free hoster like imageshack.com for example.

Well the 707 features this dummy when you are using the 'CIVA' panel.cfg. http://captainsim.org/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1285100008/302#302 Unfortunately, it's inop when it comes to interacting with the CIVA gauge.

Regarding the 727, there's a replacement texture set here. http://www.captainsim.org/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1277200750

And on the 737 I don't know about any VC mods so far. 2D panels for the CIVA INS work on almost every plane, but the VC integration needs a compatible 3D model (which you can't change) and a replacement or at least free space in the cockpit itself. So if you would for example try to replace the 737 PDCS with the INS gauge, the underlying 3D model would interfere. You might not be able to read and operate the new gauge then.

Hello all INS simmers.

Re opening this thread.

I recently d/l the Civa Carousel.

Set up as per the first posts in this thread.

Had a series of failures. Main issue being, the Civa install does not work with the "V" gauge add on.  When "V" gauge is opened the INS displays get badly corrupted along with some VC gauges?

However, I used the download panel.cfg for dual installation and had a little more success. (Thanks CoolP)

Took the best part of 6 hours and still having mixed results. Minus the "V" gauge, so far.

The Civa web site has the following interesting features listed:-

Additional features:

- Induced, per-INS, NAV time based, random "drifting" error
- Induced, per-INS, random unit "hardware" failures

I wonder if those "random" hardware failures are influencing my growing disillusion with the Civa INS?  Its failing to command the heading bug to the first ins waypoint.

Also, the "quick align" counts down to 6:9 and halts there.

I have the "INS/Doppler" set to INS and NAV AP set on? Also follow CoolP's instructions...Well still practising!

Will try some more today.

The loss of the "V" gauge is a greater loss then the INS gauge, so I wll revert back to the V install, if I have more failures today!

Like has been said on this forum, the INS Carousel was state of the art back in the day. ART being the operative word! The modern FMC is very easy to use compared to the INS. Perhaps the totally non-intuitive INS system input is the culprit.  Also we are on a simulation platform known for its quirky behaviour with VAS etc. and we are installing gauges by hand, over different FSX installs.... Undecided

Aw well, it may be back to VOR/Doppler NAV Roll Eyes

Cheers
David

Final report on the INS, it cause two CTD's when attempting to update the INS, which incidentally, would not function as described and seen in the video.:-

http://youtu.be/BOuClh2CDBA

So in my case I have not succeeded.  Sad

Just installed dual CIVA in CS Captain (FSX) B727-100.
It aligned and worked perfectly for about 3 waypoints
into the flight and then suddenly quit (shut off). The yellow battery
light on the CDUs appeared when I started to taxi and would go out
when power was reduced and or brakes applied.  After takeoff
this light stayed on constantly until about 3 waypoints (30nm)
and then the CDUs' red warning lights came on and very shortly
thereafter the CIVA system shut down. Anyone have any
idea what I may have missed?
FYI, I use FSUIPC payware with infinite battery enabled. Also double
checked the generator switches and power switch settings.  Even tried
turning the APU back on and giving it the load (with appropriate power
switch settings).  Recycled the main battery switch (on engineers panel).
Nothing I tried made the yellow CDU battery light even blink ~Smiley
Thank you,
Ken

Hello Ken,

I have not tried the CIVA gauge in the 727. My 707 install was only a partial success. I thought I had it nailed after experimenting with different configs. Alas, the CIVA never worked properly for more than a couple of waypoints.

As I previously stated the CIVA INS never worked as demonstrated in the linked video.

http://youtu.be/BOuClh2CDBA

I assumed there must be an anomaly with my FSX/CS 707 install. Since the CIVA INS gauge is freeware and installed by the user, obviously its prone to errors by the users install method.

Of greater concern was the CTD's it caused. In my opinion, when software causes CTD's its either incorrectly set up for FSX, or the Aircraft simulated, or both?

Its a pity because we are attempting to recreate a true simulation of these historic aircraft, which were fitted with an INS for long haul overseas routes.

In the 707, the Doppler nav. works very well. But of course the INS would be the long haul navigation option of choice.

The 727 has only the navigation radios and these work well for VOR/NDB navigation and allow us to simulate short/medium haul routes. I have not attempted an install of the CIVA gauge in the 727. My assumption being that since the gauge code is the same, the panel config.  the same,  the errors would be also.

I suppose the bottom line is that the INS needs to be integrated by the CS programmers to be properly functional.

The 707 Doppler System has been perfectly integrated. So the INS requires the same treatment! Wink

Oh, and a nice 3d INS panel with a Dual gauge would be very welcome too Wink

Best Regards
David.

Thank you for responding David. I haven't given up yet > a few
more things to try when time permits.  I used the CIVA for several
years with the RFP B742 and loved it, so I'm motivated to get it
working. I'll follow up later.
Best regards,
Ken

In the 707, all I did was:

1. Install the freeware CIVA INS
2. Backed up the original panel.cfg by renaming it panel_bak.cfg
3. Renamed the CIVA_panel.cfg to panel.cfg
4. *CUT this line: gauge04=../civa/INS!Config,         0,    0,  0, 0, csx701 (from [Window00]) and
   pasted it in [VCockpit01] as gauge27=../civa/INS!Config,         0,    0,  0, 0, csx701
5. Saved panel.cfg.

It works fine.

I did do a dual INS panel a long time ago, but I prefer to use a single unit (i.e. the CIVA_panel.cfg).

* Doing this means that the CIVA INS is initialised as soon as you load the 707 into FSX, rather than having to press SHIFT+1 to initialise it.
