You are right, Mark, most gauges are standard FSX xml and one can open and read them easily. But this one seems to be of another kind.
However, I'm ok with the operation now and since this "fix" (it's no such thing, but a workaround only) is public now, CS can look into that gauge for the 2.5 version of the 727.

Dropping a ticket today, so the need for it is in the system.Edited:

Is anyone else missing the marker sounds on the 727? I wonder if this has something to do with this fix now.
They work fine on the 707, but my 727 stays silent on the Markers.
I've tried the toggling the VC switches and the FSX internal setting with Ctrl+3, only lights, no sounds.

Marker sounds work for me simply by switching the "MKR" switch down at the FE's audio panel.  I do not need to use the keyboard command.  Also, the IDENT feature works as well if I use the switches at the FE audio panel.  I do not have your sound workaround installed, maybe it has something to do with that.

Hi.

I've looked at many of the gauges and still have many more to go (there are a lot!), I haven't found any differences yet. The Captain_Sim.p727.sound.gau is the same one used in v2.3, as are all the gauges I have looked at up to now. There are 2 new gauges, the 2D WxR (the free, included one from Captain Sim). There must be some other differences, but I haven't found them yet. The dates and sizes so far are the same in them all.

Haven't tried the FE's panel so far, only looked on the Captain's side. I also thought that the FSX key command will override any VC setting.
But thanks for that input, audiohavoc, I will try again and also revert back to the faulty gauge file to see if the missing Markers are bound to my small modification.
Otherwise, I will live with the lights only and enjoy the rest of the cockpit sounds on the first load.

Mark, seems like you are investigating now, huh?
By the way, are you getting the Marker sounds on your system?

Edited:
Thanks, audiohavoc, I finally found the marker sounds. You are right, the FE panel toggles them. Loud and clear now.  Smiley

OK. Here is how I went.

There are a few gauge changes in 727-100 v2.4, I replaced them with the ones from v2.3, one at a time, then in different combinations. Each change required FSX to be closed and then restarted. It was a case of: Make gauge changes, start FSX, load CS727, Fly, FSX off, make gauge changes, start FSX, load CS727, Fly, FSX off...over and over again Cheesy). I never got the sound working that way. I always had to reload the aircraft. No idea why.

So...... I went back to CS727-100 v2.3. Start FSX, load CS727, fly, no sound! What???? No matter what I did, I had the same problem. I had to reload the 727 to hear the sounds.
So.......I went all the way back to v2.2. Start FSX, load CS727, fly, no sound! What on earth is going on here? Same deal as v2.3 and v2.4.

The only thing I never did, was the editing the registry. I really don't want to do that.

Huge efforts there, Mark. Really adorable.
I think that at the point where you would have to run through registry changes, efforts should be discontinued though.

I hope that the gauge fix points the devs in the right direction to fix it in 2.5. My ticket was processed, so the fact is a known one.
Back to flying, Buddy.  Smiley

Replacing the new (v2.4) gauges with the old (v2.3) changed nothing. The gauges themselves worked fine, they had no effect on the way the sound behaves.

Version 2.4 (25 Feb 2010) was not very far behind the release of version 2.3 (26 Dec 2009). I do not remember the having the sound not working upon loading in v2.3. Because it was only two months between them, I could be wrong. Undecided

Mark

Edited:
The dates I used are the dates that show up in the Windows Explorer details view, the date that I downloaded them, which will be close to the actual dates of the releases.

Sound issues - trying to download msvcr71.dll
Reply #96 - Mar 23rd, 2011 at 5:02pm

I'm trying to get my cockpit sound working in the 727. The msvcr71.dll is not showing up in system 32 folder so I'm trying to find it to install it. I went to Micro Soft site. The instructions for the KB said to down load the latest Visual Studio C++. Couldn't find that one specifically. There are many different downloads that are close to that. It's a bit confusing. Does anyone know where the get the msvcr71.dll on Microsoft site or any other resource for that matter. All the tricks I've been reading about just don't work for me. Must be the absence of the msvcr71.dll

I've tried everything in these articles to get the sound to come on and it just won't. Loaded cold and dark from the start menu, then reloaded, changed the line of code in sound file as suggested. Still nothing. I'm running Windows 7. I don't have msvcr71.dll in system 32 folder. Some have suggested its not nessicary to get sound.
None the less, I'm trying to find msvcr71.dll on Mircrosoft's site but can't. Does anyone have a reliable source to obtain msvcr71.dll or know where to find it on the Microsoft site. thanks-

Brian,

From personal experience as another relative newcomer I will tell you point blank that nothing worked until I did the .dll add from the MS website.  Without that, all the other stuff did nothing.

And here's where I found it:  http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/default.aspx

It wasn't like that for me. After building my new system, reformatting my C Drive, reinstalling Windows 7 Professional 64bit, then installing FSX & Acceleration followed by installing all my Captain Sim products, the sound in my 727 still had this issue.  got my sounds working normally by either reloading the aircraft or starting FSX by loading the 727 Cold-n-Dark (KSEA) or 727 Cleared for takeoff (KSEA) directly from the Documents\Flight Simulator X files and bypassing the FSX Start Menu.

I do have msvcr71.dll installed on my computer. It's in C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Msvcr71.dll. The file is dated Sunday, ‎8 ‎August ‎2010, ‏‎1:02:50 AM and Size: 340 KB (348,160 bytes) (Size on disk: 340 KB (348,160 bytes)).
That date is the same day that I reinstalled Window 7 on my new system. I never downloaded and installed the msvcr71.dll on my system.

I've looked on MS site but can't find it listed specifically. There are many files that are close to that by name. Is it contained in the Windows 7 Service pack 1? Again, I can't find it anywhere by name

Did you search for it on your hard disk drive(s) your computer? Primarily the C:\Windows folder? You might already have it. If you see in my previous reply, mine was found in the C:\Windows\SysWOW64 folder.

I don't know if you have Windows 7 32bit or 64bit but as you can see, mine isn't in the the windows system32 folder and I'm using Windows 7 64bit.

Also. I did not find it by doing a search at the Microsoft download center.

Hi Mark,
Yes, I did look in the C:\Windows\SysWOW64 folder and didn't find it. I am running windows 7 64 bit. So you have to have that .dll in system 32 before the sound will work?
Doug, where on Microsoft's site did you find it?
