Hi all, first time poster and owner of the 727-100 and 200.  I'm trying to make the crew sounds work, and I think this is the issue. But, I'm a little unclear.  One suggests saving the file and loading directly.  One suggests loading a default flight and then changing the aircraft.  My usual procedure for any add-on aircraft is to load the default aircraft and then change the aircraft, yet I'm not certain I'm actually getting all the sounds (no call-outs, the crew messenger doesn't make any sound, etc.)  So, three questions:

1.  If I want to do a flight from cold and dark, should I just load a default flight, then load the SEA flight, then move it?  Will that work?

2.  How can I be certain I'm getting all the sounds?

3.  If I just save a flight where the sounds have disappeared, can I simply save it and then start over?

Hi ddo2

1.  If I want to do a flight from cold and dark, should I just load a default flight, then load the SEA flight, then move it?  Will that work?
Try opening the 727-100 Xold-n-Dark (KSEA) with FSX from Documents\Flight Simulator X files. Doing it this way, I found that the sounds are working when I start, I don't need to reload the aircraft. I have FSX AND the flights (FLT files) that come with the Captain Sim aircraft "pinned" to my start menu. But you can only do that with Vista and Win7.

The other method I use is to start FSX. Then in Free Flight I select everything, starting with the CS727, airport, time of day, flight plan, fuel and then select Fly Now. Once FSX is ready, I reload the 727 and my sounds are all there.

2.  How can I be certain I'm getting all the sounds?
Just rotate the ALTITUDE ALERT knob. When it is with 800-900 feet  of the 727's actual altitude, it will chime. That tells you that the sounds are all working correctly.

3.  If I just save a flight where the sounds have disappeared, can I simply save it and then start over?
I think the sound will return if you load the saved flight.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your detailed reply.  With regards to the "double load" method, isn't that hard to do if you're starting from the cold and dark?  don't you have to load the cold and dark flight, move it, etc., save it, and then load it twice more?

And, I'll check the chime, I seem to recall hearing it.  But, shouldn't the crew messenger produces sounds and call outs then when I push the buttons? Reading the forum, I get the sense that the plane has an FO who makes the call out for V1, etc.

Best,

Doug

You don't "double load" the flight.  Just the aircraft.   As you load the flight and you come alive at your airport, you use the menu to "select aircraft", then click on the plane you are sitting in and hit OK.  You will then have all your sounds.   No FO call outs are available, as far as I know.

Thanks.  What about the Crew Messenger?  Does that actually make sound if its working?

The only Crew Messages that are available in the 727 are using the 2D Crew Message panel (SHIFT+5). There are no F/O call outs during takeoff and landing.

Thanks agian.  The Crew messenger lights but makes no calls.  I'm assuming this is the same issue.

They still don't work after reloading the aircraft? Try doing this - Open the sound.ini file, found in [FSX root folder]\Captain_Sim\727 and change SoundOffWhenSimIsSlew=1 to SoundOffWhenSimIsSlew=0 like this:

[Common]
Refresh.Time=10
Sound.Directory=Captain_Sim\727\sound
SoundOffWhenSimIsSlew=0
SoundOffWhenSimIsPaused=1
SoundOffWhenSimDialogIsOpen=1
SoundOffWhenSimSoundIsOff=1

[Common] is right at the top of the page, so it's easy to find.

Hope this helps.

Mark, thanks.  I have tried all of the following:

1.  Direct load from start menu
2.  Double load of aircraft
3.  Change the sound.ini file.

None of this seems to work.  No Alt alert chime, no APU fire test bell (which I got the first time I used it, but not since then), Crew Messenger 2D panel also does not work.

I have installed the gauge fix recommended for the oscillation issue.

I'm sort of stumped.

My Specs, if it helps:  i7920@3.4, Asus P6T, GTX 280, 6GB Ram, W7 Pro 64, FSX, SP2, FSX is on its own drive, other add-ons that are running: FSUIPC Registered, REX 2.0, UT2, GEX and UTX, Misc add-on airports)

Best,

Doug

After working through the problem, I think the sounds disappeared when I added the new gauge file.  Does that make sense to anyone?  And would I be better off to just to a reinstall at this point, then, and do without the gauge switch?

Did you read through the other sound threads around?
http://www.captainsim.org/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1286037561

Here's a quote with a thing you haven't mentioned yet.
Quote:
Copy the msvcr71.dll file C:\Program Files\Windows\system32 folder and paste it into [Microsoft Flight Simulator X Root Folder].
If you can't find the file, go to Microsoft Download Center to get it.

Oops, I just saw that this tip is also mentioned in this thread on page one. But maybe you haven't tried it yet.

Thanks, I missed that, and the 727 is the only CS prooduct I have (I tend to be more of another company guy, but I wanted something vintage), so I don't read the 767 forums.

I'll try that this evening or tomorrow.  This change does cause any other weird other effects on FSX, does it?  I'm always a little nervous about changes to my general FSX setup given the number of add-ons I have.

Hi Doug.

That change shouldn't cause you any problems. I keep forgetting about the msvcr71.dll fix because I never needed it. Sorry about that. I will try to remember it from now on. Embarrassed

Thanks, guys, that was it.  Interesting you never had that issue, Mark, I use the same OS as you.   Also weird that I didn't have this problem at first and then did after I did the gauge file fix.  Man, that flight crew is very British.  Wink

Mark, can explain me why I lost my sound when I fly with "Real Environment Extreme Weather Engine"  active, or while I fly on IVAO, so when my FSX is connected to the network? I tried to load the aircraft twice, in this way I have the sound ok; but soon I start REX weather engine, the sounds disappear. Than I tried first to start REX weather engine, than to load the aircraft twice but the sounds won't work.
Can somebody help me????
