I have no sounds, no matter what. I don't really notice once I'm going, but even so, such a small outstanding problem is the kind of thing that I find myself countering in forum rants against Captain Sim.

In Win8/Win8.1, I cannot get the sounds working no matter what I have tried either.

But in Win7, I make one change to the sound.ini file:

from this:
[Common]
Refresh.Time=10
Sound.Directory=Captain_Sim\727\sound
SoundOffWhenSimIsSlew=1
SoundOffWhenSimIsPaused=1
SoundOffWhenSimDialogIsOpen=1
SoundOffWhenSimSoundIsOff=1

to this:

[Common]
Refresh.Time=10
Sound.Directory=Captain_Sim\727\sound
SoundOffWhenSimIsSlew=0
SoundOffWhenSimIsPaused=1
SoundOffWhenSimDialogIsOpen=1
SoundOffWhenSimSoundIsOff=1

and then when I load the 727 into FSX, all I need to do is reload it and the sounds start working like they should.

I have CTRL+SHIF+R assigned to Aircraft (reload) in SETTINGS > CONTROLS > BUTTONS/KEYS.

Here is a video of when the 727 is first loaded into FSX, then reloaded to get the sounds working:

Even with the edit you mentioned, it doesn't work. Also, ctl+shift+R doesn't do anything. I have tried the RESET option from the drop-down menu, and CHOOSING the same 727. Multiple times. No difference. I have tried opening the COLD-AND-DARK flight directly.

What I do have is a loud noise that sounds like a fan, and "phantom engine" sounds. When I load that flight, I get a loud noise plus the above-mentioned fan noise. After a couple of seconds it stops, and there is silence. As soon as I flip the battery switch to the "on" position the loud fan noise returns. But there are still no clicks or ding-dongs.

I am using the TSS engine sounds, but I have the same installed in three different airplanes, including the CS 737-200, and the 727 is the only one giving me trouble, so I don't think that's it. Anyway, this is the same near-universal problem people have with this airplane.

[Rant deleted.]

So, any other ideas?

When I said: "I have CTRL+SHIF+R assigned to Aircraft (reload) in SETTINGS > CONTROLS > BUTTONS/KEYS." I meant that I added a keyboard shortcut for Aircraft (reload), and I assigned CTRL+SHIFT+R to do it - By default, there is no keyboard shortcut for it, so you must assign one yourself.

Unfortunately, no. I had mine stop working a while ago, (back in October 2013) and I said I needed to uninstall and then reinstall FSX to fix it. Well I did that and it did fixed it. Not only that, but it fixed a few strange issues that had snuck into my Captain Sim aircraft. Shocked

I have uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times. Nick provided some help that almost has me there. Copy the 707 sound gauge, rename it to the same name as the 727 one and drop it into the gauges folder. It did indeed give me beautiful clicks, dings and APU sound. The problem now is that I don't have any other sounds in the cockpit. Not so much as a whisper from my Whisperjet at full throttle. Eerie. That's not gonna work, either.

Hello Tim,

I am pretty sure that the two issues are not connected.
The sound gauge is there to play the sounds that are stored in
the Captain Sim folder, I think that with the renamed 707 gauge,
we are hearing the sounds in the Captain Sim\707\sound folder.

The engine and other ambient sounds are stored in the CS_B727-100\sound folder and are played by FSX, just like any default aircraft.
I can only suggest that you check the integrity of this sound folder, it should contain 40 sound files and one sound.cfg file.
The folder should also be named sound and in the aircraft.cfg file, its entry for each aircraft should read sound=
Finally check your sound volume settings in the sound section in the drop down menu in FSX.
On your behalf, I have uninstalled and then reinstalled the aircraft to check the integrity of my advice and I hear all the sounds that I expect to.

Regards,
Nick

SUCCESS! Finally.

Like Nick suggested, I copied the 707 sound gauge to my desktop, and renamed it the exact same name as my 727 sound gauge: Captain_Sim.p727.sound.gau. Then I removed the original 727 gauge and replaced it in the gauge folder with the re-named 707 gauge.

(If you have done this correctly, red warning text will appear at the top of your screen when you load the 727.)

That did not work, but I traced the problem to the old sound config trick. With all the uninstalling and reinstalling, I had forgotten to change the "1" to a "0" as Mark suggested above. When I did that, the combination of the two fixes gave me cockpit sounds. BUT... as soon as the APU finished starting up, a very loud fan-type noise started. It was everywhere. Inside the cockpit, outside the airplane. It was the only sound I now had and I couldn't get rid of it. Even reloading didn't help.

Through experimentation, however, I found that if I reloaded after I started one engine, the loud fan noise or whatever went away, and I had normal cockpit sounds and normal engine sounds. And by reloading, I mean selecting the airplane again.

So, by using every trick in the book, and with a lot of help, I now have cockpit sounds. Needless to say, since this is a common problem that some seem to have to jump through more hoops than others to fix, it would be really nice if Captain Sim would just fix it. Surely they know what the problem is.

Thanks Nick, and Mark, for your help.

I fixed my sound issues with the custom sounds buy purchasing the 707 and using that sound .dll file as described in the forums.  I recently had to uninstall FSX and then reinstall it.  I did the same things again, replaced the .dll and made the other changes noted in the forums as I had the first time I installed the 727.  Now, after a few minutes the sound to the APU just stops, everything appears to be running.  I can restart the APU and get the sound, then after a few minutes, it stops again.  I have searched the forums and can not seem to find an answer on the APU stop.

The 707 doesn't have an APU, so the reason for the APU sound stopping might have something to do with your using the 707 sound.dll.

I have renamed it the 727gauge as well.  I did not have this problem previously.  Do you think I should copy the APU sound file from the 727 and place it into the 707 then?  Its just odd how it starts up then stops, I would think it would not work at all.

I wish CS would just revamp this aircraft because if it were not for these tiny bugs that plague it, this would be an AMAZING add on.

It's worth trying.

I seemed to have fixed it by doing maybe doing nothing.  I created a new default flight using the default 172 that I shut down completely and then saved that flight.   I also seem to have issues if I run the APU fire test.

After creating a new default flight and skipping the APU fire test, works perfect.

Now that they have released the T7 and the L-1011 I hope they plan on working on a 727 v2.5.  This and the c-130 should be their primary aircraft.  Other companies have down the 737 classic and the T7, but when it comes to a 727 you have CS and another company and it is my understanding that DF is a FS9 product.

So now I am having issue with the avionics shutting down.  When I first purchased and installed this aircraft, I only had two issues, the sound issue that destroys this aircraft and the FLight Director does not work.  I have this issue with the 707 and c130..,even with the FD turned on it would not function.  I could handle that just fine, the auto pilot worked and I could fly it without a FD.  I fixed the sound issues with using the 707 sound gauge.

Recently FSX crashed and I had to do a complete reinstall of FSX, now my 727 is worthless.  I have the avionics crash that everyone is talking about and changing the Config file does not work for me..it still crashes, the APU sounds randomly shut off.  I thought I had that fixed but it started again.

I am at my whits end with this aircraft and Captainsim either needs to come out and state that they are currently working on this aircraft to fix it or they give up..it has been over 3 years now
