Hello All,

Has something happened here that I've missed? No posts at all , only two in June.

I'm feeling lonely!!  Embarrassed

I assume that the 777 Captain and 1011 Captain for P3Dv2, and the 1011 Freighter have delayed the update 1.1 for the 737! Undecided

What about v5 for the 757 or v1.6 for the 767? They've just completely moved on from probably their most successful aircraft.

I don't think I have had that problem before.

I have had the packs and generators turn off when I have used the menu though. Undecided

Better though that they get everything done that they need to get done, rather than just getting it out.

No. But I assume it will be released when it's ready and that it will be to fix up all the big issues that the 737 Captain currently has. I also hope that that's what the update will address. Wink

You would be better to browse this 737 Captain 1.x forum looking for the major issues with the 737.

Hi

Interested by that updated 737 but will there be a P3D version or will it be still strictly FSX?

Oh I have browsed most topics in the 737 forum.  I own the bird, and have applied some of the flight model mods and so forth.  The only real issue I had was with the FMC-like device (I forget what it is called) crashing the program.   But I just use it now for takeoff settings and have no trouble.

I was just wondering what everyone else was wanting to see in the upcoming update!   Smiley

I was just wondering what everyone else was wanting to see in the upcoming update! Smiley

The two major problems I have:

1) Sometimes the battery loses power (even with the APu or External (ground) Power). I fix this by reinstalling the 737 and it will be fine for quite a while. fsxpaul has a mod that can help, but I don't need it most of the time!
2) The engine power of the 737 is too much. Well I think it is (I would like to know what the real world pilots of the 737 original series think), so I would like to see it reduced.
3) The PDCS (FMC-like device) causes a CTD too often. I can sometimes do everything in the PDCS without FSX crashing, as long as I enter the data really slowly. And I do mean really slowly! If I forget for a few seconds and speed up - CTD!
4) This isn't a bug, it's a wish - I hope that the CWS (Control Wheel Steering) is improved to be as good as it is in the L-1011. It is quite good already, but when I release the joystick (when initiating a bank) it will start to straighten out before returning the bank to the degrees that it was banking at when I released the joystick - it's hard to explain. But if you have the L-1011, you can compare the two and I think you'll see what I mean.

All in all, the 737 is only slightly ahead of the 707 as my second favourite Captain Sim aircraft. The L-1011 is my favourite by quite a large margin! Fixing the bugs in the 737 will bring it right up behind the L-1011. I hope!. Cheesy Grin

This seemed like an appropriate place to drop in and say hi, since I haven't been around for awhile. I've missed the friendly, helpful community! I was slated to do a 777 review and actually had made a good start, then got sick and couldn't complete the project, which I felt really bad about for several reasons.

So now I'm just another retiree (although that certainly didn't occur as planned, either.)

Having been away from flight simulator for many months, I have had to re-learn so much. Aside from a certain Airbus, the airplane I've been spending most of my time in is the 737. I personally think it is the nicest looking, and is fun to fly.

If the expression "desperately" can be used in a flight simulation, this airplane is "desperately" in need of its update.

These old airplanes are really a handful, aren't they? I think you have to fly some high-tech wonder plane like the Airbus every once in awhile to appreciate the oldies.

The 737 is solid in many ways. In other ways... well, one or two things should come with a big INOP DO NOT TOUCH sticker!

Totally in agreement with your tenor, Tim. Looking forward to the 737 update, it's needed and the aspects it should touch got described in quite some detail I think. Great potential in that plane.

I'm sorry to hear about how everything has happened for you Tim. Sad I hope you can enjoy your retirement. Wink

I've been "retired" (for lack of a better word) for 22 years. It was not entirely by choice, but I do enjoy it. Every day is like a weekend for me. Shocked

About the update for the 737. Yes, if some of these bugs can be fixed, then the 737 Captain will be an even greater product. It comes second in favouritism, after the L-1011, of Captain Sim products.

Like all of you, I hope it isn't too far off, but we will just have to wait until it's ready. Undecided

In my dreams, ACE is finally expanded to a real payload-and-fuel-calculator-loader like the big German company has for their airplanes.

In the meantime, thanks to the users who have made it tolerable.

My fuel method is: guessing. I'm getting pretty good at it, and if it looks like my engines are about to flame out, there's always in-flight refueling from, a little-known feature on the 737.

My method is guessing too. I always add about 10,000 more than what I think I need (unless there is no more room for fuel), and so far I have always landed with between 10,000 - 15,000 pounds remaining (unless I am going the maximum range, when I usually have between 5,000 and 10,000 pounds remaining). I have only had to do in-flight refuelling a couple of times since getting the the CS737-100/200, and that was back in the beginning. Wink

Re: Planning values. Totally agreed that one could enhance the ACE. I think those suggestions range back some years, so one can either hope or.. work around. Cheesy

http://www.simbrief.com is a free website allowing for very detailed flight planning. The 737-200 is featured and, therefore, gets calculated correctly when it comes to the expected fuel burn. If you wanted to add more planes or edit existing ones, no problem, just click edit.

The folks running the PFPX payware might also have a profile at hand to allow for proper planning, but I can highly recommend the freeware site where nothing more than a free sign-up is needed. You would then head for the dispatch system and select your route details and airframe.

It will grab the weather, NOTAMs, plans the optimum flight level, gives you times and coordinates for waypoints and later print the plan and/or export a file for FMC/other flight planners. I suggest printing to pdf. You can even select your favourite's airline OFP format, so what you will see then equals the rw docs.

If you run a nav data subscription from Navigraph, you can also enter your code there and have access to the latest and greatest. Otherwise it uses a fairly current (and free) 1303 data set.

Back to the fuel burn, I was using an example route KSAN to KAUS; IPL J18 GBN SSO J50 ELP J183 LLO KALLA3; alternate is KDFW

Maybe you agree with me that this work, being offered for free, is plain awesome. If you like their service, consider donating though. Cool They always keep their stuff current and also react well to suggestions and feedback.

They also offer plenty of airframe templates, so e.g. the frequent 727 flyers will also be able to enjoy a decent planning, for free.

For projects such as the CS 737 and 727 that customers paid for but never saw finished, it's nice to see there are resources available to ease the frustration and disappointment. Through community efforts and sites such as Simbrief, these unfinished projects can be brought to life and enjoyed, even by those (such as myself) seeking a higher level of detail and authenticity. I'm a huge fan of Simbrief and glad they're supporting the classics. I've never seen a RW commercial airline flight plan but I can't imagine they contain too much more than what Simbrief incorporates.
So utilize the resources available and enjoy these great classics. No reason not to. As time moves along and in spite of what CS says (we're working on it), realistically, I'm not sure there will be an update for the 732. If that's the case, it won't stop me from enjoying what I do have.

Cheers,
Brian

Brian G, well said. Of all the airplanes that deserves to be finished, this is the biggest shame. It may be their best, visually, and they got so much right. How can we imagine, that after all this time, it's ever going to get brought up the level it deserves?  Sad

Cool IP, I checked out Simbrief and it looks great, but, like other services and resources, it uses airways. My flight plans are VOR to VOR mostly, except for SIDs and STARs if they're relatively simple. Are folks flying airways by radio navigation, or what am I missing?

Back in the 70s before there were FMS, how did pilots fly, but VOR to VOR?

I fly airways in the USA with just nav radios.  Here in the US, they are almost all still associated with VORs.

But in Europe and UK, there seem to be a lot of airways that are only flyable with RNAV equipped planes, because there are no VORs to use to guide you.  ( I'm not saying that there are no VORs in Europe, just that many airways do not have them where they would need to be to allow you to fly the airway with a set of nav radios.)

Cool IP, I checked out Simbrief and it looks great, but, like other services and resources, it uses airways.

I guess you came to think that it does so because it uses the neat feature of suggesting one of the mostly used routes for your departure and destination.

Simbrief itself is not bound to any specific route setup though, so if you hack in SEA YVR ANC (or something alike), you might well receive a proper plan to fly from Seattle to Anchorage via VORs only. Just mind the route string, which you can generate manually or import from your favourite flight planner like Plan-G or FSC.

The thing with the airways just happens because, nowadays, most people use those and therefore fill up the system with "this" being the preferred route. As said, just throw some VOR identifiers at it and it will plan for those just fine.

The best way to look at it would be that it doesn't do the actual route planning (since it links to external data bases and websites or awaits the user input on that route string) but, once you have a route to fly, will allow to plan for this one in high detail.

Happy VOR flying. Smiley

FSC can create VOR to VOR routes (just as the default FS Flight Planner can). And seeing as the VOR's in FSX are permanently set, and so there are no magdev deviation changes since the game was created (unless you downloaded an updated magdev.bgl file to replace the default one), I can't see a better reason to create a VOR to VOR route with one of them. Undecided

I fly airways in the USA with just nav radios.  Here in the US, they are almost all still associated with VORs.

In keeping with real world routes, the challenge for the classics in the modern world is finding SIDS and Stars that aren't RNAV based. Once you get up on an airway, there are always VOR's that link them (for the most part). I don't do much IFR flight planning anymore as I'm more into GA at lower altitudes but I do remember the challenge of finding non-RNAV based arrivals and departures for my non-FMC equipped planes. I always used FlightAware and couldn't keep my routes in step with the real world as the real world has moved away from the VOR based SIDS and STARS.

I'm starting to get a little worried... December is coming to an end and 737 1.1 still isn't here, is it going to be a christmas present? Smiley Or is it going to be delayed yet again? Cry
