Wouldn't it make sense to see how the V2 version of P3D turns out, Ron? Just wanting to avoid spending the money and time to install V1, and doing the same again when V2 is out. Means if your system currently runs fine, it may do so until the end of year, which should be the time when customer reviews of V2 reach us.

Well, as for the current P3D version, I think Mark has almost all models running. And if you check the sub sections, I think some folks already wrote a bit on how to enable all the files in the other sim.

I have P3D v1.4 (Academic Version) and all, except the 777 v1.2 work perfectly in P3D! There are tweaks that need to be done to get them to work properly, unless you use the FlightSim Estonia FSX to Prepar3D Migration Tool, which does it all for you as if it was installing in FSX.

I run both FSX and P3D, so IF I install using the Migration Tool, I always install to P3D with the Migration Tool, then into FSX proper, that way, all  the shortcuts in the Start Menu are pointing to the FSX installation. As far as I can tell, the ACE doesn't (at least for me) work in P3D.

There is a Prepar3D Legacy Mode, which will allow the CS 777 v1.2 to work in P3D, but P3D crashes every time I use it. It seems like you shouldn't run it in Legacy Mode if you have FSX installed on your computer as well. Sad

Edited:
Seeing as I have the Prepar3D Academic License, it is highly likely that I will have to by a new license for Prepar3D. And if that is the case, I will be buying the Professional License! So it will cost me $US199 for v2 if I have to buy it again. Sad

Since you've mentioned the licence types, Mark. I'm not that much in the P3D loop but are they planning to introduce those same types again in V2? If so, what's the benefit of the 199 USD licence over the 49 USD one?

I'm believe that the licenses will be same for v2.x as they are for v1.x. Unless it has changed, if you buy the Academic lLisence, you are only able to upgrade in the increments. i.e. I bought v1.3 Academic, so ican upgrade to1.4 (I already have), 1.5 (if it happens to be released). OR. if I buy v2.0 Academic License, I can upgrade to 2.1, 2.3 etc. IF I had bought the v1.3 Professional License, I get all upgrades for free. i.e. 1.4, 2.0, 2.1...3.0...etc.

I bought the academic Licence because $US199 was a lot of money to spend on P3D, without ever having tried it before (MS released a Demo of FSX, so I knew what I was getting when I paid $AU130+ for it). Cheesy

As I said, it may have changed. But seeing as I haven't either been to the P3D forums, or read up on the licensing for the current version on the web site, for quite a while, I do not know of any changes in the licensing at this time. I guess I should check on it! Wink

Note: Last time I checked, there was no upgrade option from Academic License to Professional License, so it is (or was) a case of pay the FULL price to get the Professional License if you wanted it.

Mmm, you gotta help me understand two things here. First, where is it written that a Professional License leads to free updates across versions (V1 to V2 for example)? I could not find such a clause.

But, second, and assuming the statement is correct, isn't it still cheaper to buy a 49 USD licence for V1 and a 49 USD licence for V2 instead of the, assumed, 199 USD 'pro' licence allowing for a free upgrade? If the maths don't trick me, you still save 101 bucks, no?  Huh

Okay. All that info was based on what I had read, and heard, before I bought the Academic License. Not only that, I was not even sure I could buy the Academic License because I did not "qualify". Then later on, I saw that they had changed the "qualifications" for the Academic License, which allowed me to "qualify". I think has changed again, but I'm not really sure.

I can't point you to where I read all that, I wish I could. It was 18 months ago, and I can't remember where on the internet, or in the LM Forums I saw them. It was because of all the searching that I did, that if I was going to get it, I didn't want to pay $200, $50 was better, especially because I wasn't sure I would like it.

Doing the math, you are right, $199 - ($49.95 x 2) = $99.10, so yes I would be better off (by $99.10). But.....
IF the licensing IS the way I said it is, IF P3D ever gets to v5, I will have to have spent $49.95 x 5 = $249.75. If I buy it next time for $199 + $49.95 = $248.95. So I'm still better off (by $0.80). Smiley If it ever gets to V6, then I'll be $50.75 ($0.80 + $49.95) better off, because I won't need to buy it again. Cheesy I know it's a lot of IF's, BUT's and MAYBE's in there, but I'm willing to chance it. Wink

Mark, excuse me for asking but did you just calculate that it would be cheaper for you when P3D V5 is released?  Huh Now I don't even want to speculate when that V5 time will arrive but I think planes will be flying in space by then and cars won't have wheels anymore.  Grin

Still, where can one read that spending those 200 Dollars kills every following upgrade price? Wouldn't that be the first thing to check before spending 200 Dollars, instead of 50?

Yep Cheesy You never know.

This is what I wrote in my previous reply with regards to that info: I can't point you to where I read all that, I wish I could. It was 18 months ago, and I can't remember where on the internet, or in the LM Forums I saw them. It was because of all the searching that I did, that if I was going to get it, I didn't want to pay $200, $50 was better, especially because I wasn't sure I would like it.

Maybe I should have said I can't remember where on the internet I saw them, or if I read it in the LM Forums, where in there I read it. That would have been a better way of putting it.

When I bought P3D, I chose to buy the Academic License, not know if it would go through, I was never asked for any proof of why I would qualify for it, so I was happy when it went through.

From what I recall was said on the L.M. forums, both the Academic and Professional licensed users would be required to repurchase P3D v2.0. Version 1.x licenses would get upgrades included. Purchasers of the v2.0  Academic and Professional licenses will get all point releases of v2.0 for no charge. Only users under the Developer licenses will get each released version plus point releases of P3D for no additional charge as we pay $10 US per month for it's continued use.

Using the Academic license would make sense for most users as it includes all point release updates. It's just like purchasing new versions of Microsoft Flight Simulator every 2 years or so as we did in the past, updates were free, new versions were not. P3D is following the same type of model. Hope this helps.

Just to explain my surprise and repeated question. I was am under the impression that you are planning to spend 200 Dollars (instead of 50) because of some vague information and hearsay. The 'v5' calculations then added to the.. amazement.  Tongue

I don't want to tell people how they spend their money but I'm interested in at least roughly understanding why if they promote that 200 bucks purchase enthusiastically.  Smiley Thanks to High Iron for a bit of clarity. Me says that, when LM releases the actual and official V2 conditions, we will all be a bit wiser or at least aware.

Must say that I actually look on how the 'no entertainment regime' turns out again. It's not like e.g. CS happily put out P3D installers and patches while some other devs did. Now P3D V1 allowed some rough copy and paste 'installation' most of the time (I think only the 777 fails) and support then came from other users, but the V2 technical background may have changed some more, causing a need for deeper reworks.

So if we would be looking at 'the' future sim while the licence trouble (entertainment vs commercial use) spoils the installation of some of our favourite addons, we may not have gained much. Besides, we were lucky with CS picking the more liberal support of P3D V1 (means it's not forbidden but also not officially supported) whereas some other devs seemed to go up to FL180 when you just wrote the P3D phrase in their forums.  Grin

By this, looking forward to your reports.  Smiley

CS 727-100 corrupts P3DV2 to the point that a P3DV2 repair does not work. A full uninstall/reinstall is needed. Apparently same goes for the 707.

The folks from the Estonian Migration Tool team seem to have a HotFix for this issue.  However, I am not quite sure whether you need to buy the tool to take advantage of the fix and whether it needs to be run every time your previous session used a CS aircraft.

I am planning to run FSX and P3DV2 in parrallel. Would be keen to hear other people's experience regarding CS aircraft in P3DV2.

Thanks

I have both the 727 and 707 working fine in P3D v2.

I didn't use the latest Migration Tool to install it in P3D v2, I copied everything over from FSX.

I do have the problem starting P3D v2, where it cannot load the default flight, or find the default flight file location, and so it aborts the loading, but I have a work-around for that.

The sound problem with the 727, which I fix in FSX by reloading the aircraft, is always present in P3D v2 - in other words, reloading the plane does not get the sounds working in P3D.
