Problems after reinstall

Hi all,
I did a system restore and had to  reinstalled the 737.  Now only a couple switches work, all gauges dead, and no response to joy stick.   Here's what I've done to try and remedy the problem. Hopefully someone will have some suggestions.

1) Downloaded two different installers. I "run as administration" when installing
2) Gone to regedit and taken out the 732 and 730
3) Turned off user control
4) Open FSX with "run as administator.
5) got the latest install for the 732 (cps 732_1000exe) from CS website.
6) started with 172 before selecting 737

Where is the repair option located on the 732 installer? On the old Cs installers you were given the option after the license agreement page. The 732 installer doesn't give you a repair/remove option unless I'm not looking in the right place. Not on the 3rd page where it used to be. I ran as admin. and still couldn't find the option anywhere. Would love to try a repair but.......maybe it's not available for reinstalls?

All my other planes are working fine including all other CS planes. I have a couple files left over from Paul's V-0ne gauge and his battery drain fix in FSX>gauges, FSX>fonts, FSX sounds. I took all them out. No change. Shouldn't have an effect on this problem anyway. Seems like more of a installer issue than anything. Any ideas that I haven't tried? Thanks in advance for any help on this.

Cheers,
Brian

The repair option should come up on a screen that will give two options:

Repair

or

Uninstall

Both will have a radio button beside them, so you select the radio button beside Repair, then click on Next.

Note: If you are not seeing that screen, then you need to do a complete reinstall.

If the Captain Sim 737's are already present in FSX\SimObjects\Airplanes folder, I recommend you copy or move them to a safe location (like the desktop), then install the 737 Base Pack and any Expansion Models, THEN copy/move the ones you moved to a safe location.

You might also want to backup the FSX\Captain_Sim\737 folder, but that's only if any of the changes you made were in there. Otherwise leave it alone.

Hi Mark,
The repair screen does not come up on the installer, anywhere. It goes from Welcome>license agreement> activation method>how to find order #> submit activation> then starts installing.
On my other CS installers, the option usually comes up after the license agreement but not on the 737_1000exe installer I've now downloaded twice.

Are taking about a FSX or 737 reinstall ? If you're talking about a complete 737, I've done that 3 times now after clearing the registry of 732 and 730 files.
I did save the 732 folder that had all the changes I made before the restore and installed it after reinstalling the 737 but that didn't help.

And thanks so much for your help.

Hi Brian,
I don't think Mark was talking about a complete FSX re-installation but a new CS732 re-installation.

Never had that problem when reinstalling. Only experience similar behaving when doing excessive aircraft reloads to check repaints. Then, when all switches are dead and/or the landing gear is gone I have to restart FSX. Nothing else helps. But I don't believe this is your problem.
Not seeing a repair button means to me that the installer doesn't recognize your installation - registration. There must be something wrong with the registry like broken links. When I experience this with similar software I run a Reg-cleaner like the freeware CCleaner which I think is good but be careful as it can remove more than you desired.
I would recommend to de-install the CS732. Remove all left-overs in the FSX directory in relation to CS732. Run a Reg-cleaner (a couple of consecutive times until it finds a minimum of errors). Then re-boot your system. Re-install CS732 and check if it works.

Far from being an expert I hope this will help you solve your problem. Good luck ! Lex

Thanks Lex,
I uninstalled 737, removed all reminiscence, ran Ccleaner a couple time to fix registry errors, reinstalled, still no luck.
Might be time to do a complete FSX reinstall just the same. I've had FSX for close to 3 years now. Never done one. I do have a couple other unresolved issues as well. Thanks again.

Cheers,
Brian

I'll try to make this as clear as I can.

IF you have uninstalled the CS 737 Base Pack, AND removed their entries from the Windows Registry, you will not get an option to repair.

IF you are being asked to activate the product(s), then as far as Windows is concerned, it is not install, there are no entries in the Windows Registry, therefore you cannot repair it (it is the same as if you had uninstalled and removed the Windows Registry entry yourself). Sad

Please don't read this and think that I am angry and/or upset, I'm not. I'm just trying to emphasize the important points. Wink

Hey Mark,
No worries.  I appreciate your clarity, patience and just thankful for your help. So, moving forward, what do you suggest I do from here? Being I've download new installers from CS site in attempt to reinstall the 732 and failed there ( now I understand why), I'm at a loss.
Thanks again for all your help and time.

All you can really do now, is to reinstall, including either an Automatic Online Activation, or a Manual Offline Activation.
Reinstalling the 737, will overwrite any files that you modified prior to doing to the System Restore. This is why I keep saying to go into the FSX\SimObjects\Airplanes folder and copy any CS_B737-XXX folders you have, and paste them in another safe location (like your desktop) that is outside of the FSX folder! that way your changes will be preserved.

Then, after finishing the installation, copy the backed up CS_B737-XXX files, and paste them back in the FSX\SimObjects\Airplanes folder, allowing the backed up folders and files to overwrite the newly installed ones. Once you do that, all your mods are there when you load any 737-XXX into FSX. It will be as if nothing happened. Smiley

Note: If you have a program like WinZip, WinRAR or 7Zip, use it to add the CS_B737-XXX folder (and all their contents) into a Zip, RAR or 7z file. Those type of files are not touched/interfered installers for the CS 737 Base Pack/Expansion models.

In this image, I have packed ALL the CS_B737-XXX folders into a ZIP file, placed in the FSX\SimObjects\Airplanes folder, to preserve any changes/mods I have done to any/all of them.

In this image, I have packed all the files for the CS_B737-200 into a ZIP file, placed in the FSX\SimObjects\Airplanes\CS_B737-200 folder, to preserve any changes/mods I have done to it.

In both cases above, the ZIP files will not be deleted or modified during the uninstall/reinstall of any of the CS 737 products. Even the on INSIDE the CS_B737-200 folder IS SAFE!

Obviously I have more than just the Captain Sim 737 Base Pack and Expansion Models installed in my FSX\SimObjects\Airplanes folder! The one used for the images is a fake FSX installation to demonstrate how I backup my modifications to my addon aircraft for FSX!

Hope this helps.

Hi Mark.
I did used a saved CS_b737-200 with all the changes I made and just as you said, and after my first reinstall, copied it into sim objects>airplanes>CS 737-200. Then when I went to free flight page , the 732 was nowhere to be found.
Now I have more serious problems as my FSX won't even open up.When I click on it, I can't even make it to the free flight page. The donut spins for a bit and then the FSX screen disappears- like something is keep it from loading and opening.
So I think these 737 problems are related to an FSX issue. Probably time to do a reinstall or repair.
Thanks again for all your help.

No worries. I wanted to save you from a lot of work redoing the mods. I was worried you might not have done it.

I wish you luck with reinstalling FSX. Wink

Anyway good luck, Lex

Lex, I did not use either one of those in my reinstall. I've got most of everything up and running again. Quite a job. Funny, all my planes, scenery's utilities etc.... reinstalled perfectly, except the CS 737. Same issue as before. The CS 707 and 727 installed perfectly. Couldn't use my saved folders though after the reinstall. So had to do all my changes over again.

Maybe the installers for the 737 are corrupt?
I would suggest that you download them again, making sure that your Anti Virus software is OFF/Disabled. It is possible that your Anti Virus software might be seeing, might have seen, the installers as a threat. This can happen sometimes. Sad
