707 Capt not working!

Just purchased & installed 707 Capt on my new laptop.  What a bummer--it doesn't even work!!  707's show fine in the FS aircraft selection window, however, when brought up on the aircraft preview pane, all the 707 aircraft are transparent with black wings.  In free flight mode, the cockpit is transparent.  The only thing that shows is the cockpit instruments and they are all blacked out--so it basically looks like blacked out instruments sitting on the runway (graphics are really screwed up).  Searched the KB and followed KB #5923 that support told me to do.  No luck--uninstalled and reinstalled 10 times,  re-download multiple times, deleted Capt Sim registry and reinstalled.  Nothing--they recommend either installing on another computer or refund.  Does anyone know what is going on?  Running Windows 7 (SP1), 64-bit, I5 CPU with more than enough to run FSX.  All FSX planes work great, just not the Capt Sim 707, which doesn't work at all. ??????

Hi David,

CS B707 is my favourite plane to fly and she works fine. Something is going on wrong with your installing. You did all the steps that I could suggest to you. So, try to:

Check-in to Your Profile then click Product Name > Customer Support > submit a Ticket.

Hope this help.

Pinatubo.

PS: By the way, do you have installed MS FS SP1 and SP2?

As above log into the Captain Sim website, in the customer support section click on Search KB or submit ticket. Do the search, in the first drop down menu for product select the 707, then in the one next to it select "exterior textures".  All the possible problems and their solutions relating to missing textures and black cockpit gauges have already been asked and answered there. All,

Thanks for your quick responses.  I still have yet to get my issues resolved.  I did a search on the KB prior to this posting and couldn't find an answer to my problem.., so I submitted a trouble ticket which support cancelled but referred me to KB#5923.  Ran the "checklist" for that KB but it did not resolve the graphics issue and it ends with install on another computer or request a refund.  I will run all through your reply's in order I recieved them to see if I can get the add-on to work correctly.

I really need this 707 add-on as I am a 707 pilot in the United States Air Force.  Flew the E-3 AWACS and now am flying E-8 JSTARS but just finished a 4-year assignment as an RQ-4 Global Hawk unmanned pilot and have been out of the cockpit for over 4-years.  It will really help me get back in the "ballgame" and regain my 707 proficiency.  Stay tuned and I will let you know how it turns out as well as post some pics off my 8 years in the 707.

Thanks
David

Just to post details one more time:

Running FSX on an HP laptop with Dual Core i5 CPU (2.40Ghz) and 4G of memory.  Running Windows 7 64-bit with SP1.  Graphics card is an ATI Radeon HD 5430 with 512MB of dedicated video memory.  FSX was installed out of the box so I don't believe I am running any service packs with that.  Let me know if there are any out there I need to download and where I can download them.  Version of 707 Captain is 1.3.00.

I'll provide an update on your proposed solutions as soon as possible.

davidggore,

As Pinatubo said above, you need SP-2 Acceleration installed for FSX.

Hope that fixes your problem.

Yes--I was just out at the FS SP1 & SP2 website.  It states that third-party software may not work correctly with one or more service packs not installed.  I will start with SP1 and see if that works.  If not I will install SP2 and then finally the Acceleration pack.

Thanks

FS SP1 fixed the transparency issue in the aircraft preview pane, exterior shots and in the free flight "virtual" cockpit screen, however, the instruments are still blacked out.  Also, there is no cockpit view at all in the 2D cockpit screen unlike the other aircraft on FSX.., just runway.  Uninstalled and reinstalled 707 twice after installion of SP1 but did not fix issue.

Slowly but surely getting there.  Will load SP2 now to see if that fixes additional problems.  Undecided

Hi David,

If you don't use Acceleration for FSX, make sure that you have installed both FS SP1 and SP2. They are essential and indispensable part of the minimum requirements to be able to use CS planes properly.

You must install SP1 before installing SP2, so download both and install them.

SP1 - http://www.microsoft.com/Products/Games/FSInsider/downloads/Pages/FlightSimulato...

SP2 - http://www.microsoft.com/Products/Games/FSInsider/downloads/Pages/FlightSimulato...

Hope this help.

Thanks Pinatubo!  FS SP1 fixed the transparency issues as stated in my previous post.  I just loaded FS SP2 and it fixed my blacked out instruments.  I now have all virtual cockpit and exterior views.  Unfortunately, SP1 & SP2 did not correct the view I need most:  2D normal cockpit view where all your primary instruments are in close view.  When the 707 loads after selection..., it is just runway in front of me for the "cockpit" view.  I can switch to the virtual view at that point but then the instruments are too small when I zoom out to get all the needed instruments on the screen.  I will install the Acceleration disk to see if that may fix the normal cockpit view..., but I did follow all instructions to install SP1 first then SP2.  I also uninstalled 707 prior to installing each service pack.  Hope Acceleration install solves my final problem.  If not..., I will be disappointed! Embarrassed

The Captain Sim 707 does not come with a 2D cockpit, only the Virtual Cockpit. So there is no need to keep looking.

I was researching the KB and found out there is not a 2D cockpit instrument panel for the 707 FSX add-on.  There is only a simicon selection that leads to other panels such as WX radar, autopilot panel, map, etc.  as well as a screen that puts 5 pack at the bottom of the screen.  No issues though--I found out you can look around to make the cockpit better fit the screen and that is exactly what I need.

Thanks for the advice on getting this to work.  I'll play around with it when my Pro Flight package arrives in about a week and let you know how it is working.  I start Re-Qual training in the actual 707 in about 4 weeks so this will help my proficiency immensely.  Will keep you advised and let you know if I run into additional problems.  Enjoy pic--this was on a night mission over Afghanistan in 2006.

Talk with you soon,
Cheers

As Mark said above, unfortunately CS B707 doesn't have 2D panels, but [Radar] > [Shift+3], [A/P] > [Shift+5], and [CIVA INS], [Control Display] > [Shift+7], [Mode Select Unit] > [Shift+8], and [ADEU] > [Shift+9], if you have installed it.

[F9] -----> Captain seat

Pressing [A] successively, you go to 2nd Officer seat, aisle panels, overhead panel, and F/E panel.

To zoom or unzoom the main panels you must use keys [+] and [-].

Crew seats:

[SHIFT+ENTER] -----> Upward

[SHIFT+BACKSPACE]------> Downward

[CTRL+ENTER] -----> Backward

[CTRL+BACKSPACE] -----> Forward

[SHIFT+ARROWS] -----> To look around

Hope this help.
