FSX Acceration Expansion Pack Install Problems

I cannot get my FSX Acceleration Expansion Pack installed on my Windows 7 32bit computer! FSX [Gold Edition] goes on fine but not X Pack. I have done everything, clean-boots, compatibility runs, you name it - it just won't install. I get this installation message that flashes, goes away and then nothing. I have used the Microsoft FixIts to try to resolve it - nothing works. Any suggestions? Is there an FSX Expansion Pack that will install on my computer? HELP!!! Undecided Undecided

System Specs:
Dell 8250 Desktop
2.66 GHz Pentium 4 CPU
1.024 GB RAM

Display:
ATI Radeon HD 2400 Series

Operating System:
Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit (6.1, Build 7601)
DirectX Version: DirectX 11

P.S. XLoad needs the Expansion Pack installed to operate properly, I would love to hear from Captain Sim if he has some sort of FSX Expansion Pack download that will work, or some other workaround!! I realize this is an older program that I am trying to install on an older computer that operates on a newer operating system - Windows 7.

This doesn't make sense. FSX Gold is supposed to have the Acceleration Expansion Pack included. So when you install FSX Gold, don't you just use a 3rd disk, with the Acceleration Expansion Pack.

So seeing as you have already installed FSX Gold, you might already have Acceleration installed, without knowing it. Using Windows Explorer, go to <FSX root folder>\SimObjects\Airplanes (i.e. C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\) and see if there is a folder named FA-18, if it's there, open it and see if it has the files/folders shown in the attached image below. If they're all there, then I have to assume that Acceleration is already installed.

EDIT: You didn't buy FSX Gold as well as the Acceleration Expansion Pack (separately) did you?

The Accelerated Expansion Pack disk is the 3rd of 3 disks of the Microsoft FSX Gold Edition which I purchased. The first two disks install FSX the third is supposed to install the Expansion Pack [which it has not]; I have no F-18 in my aircraft inventory. Embarrassed Ay, mate!

So what actually happens when you insert the 3rd disk into the DVD drive? Is the 3rd disk faulty?

Depending on how long ago you bought FSX Gold, maybe you can get it replaced? Or at least get 3rd disk replaced.

Do you know anyone nearby who has FSX Gold? Maybe they could lend you their Disk 3 so you can install it.

There is nothing wrong with the disk. I have even copied the X Pack disk over to my hard drive and tried to install from there. The same thing happens - zip, nothing!  Sad

The Accelerated Expansion [Gold Edition] is new [though I believe it first came out in 2006, when most of us were running Windows XP] as it happens I have my original X Pack which I bought a long time ago, which used to run very well, but in will not install either. I get the same flash zip - nada! Sad

I have this crazy idea that enough simmers with older systems will register similar irritations and Microsoft will conclude there is a market for a fix and will offer it to us; otherwise I think I have exhausted my options.

If you haven't already done it, try the Avsim forums. They have a much larger membership and the forum covers all sorts of things Flight Sim related. Maybe you will find the answer there. Sad

Hi Steven,

Where did you buy it? In other words, are you sure your new FSX Gold Edition is an original (authentic) one? I ask because there is a lot of fake FSX Gold Edition to sell online. I only trust in the products sold by Microsoft store, e.g. http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/en_US/pdp/Flight-Simulator-X-Gold-Edit...

You should be able top trust the more respected sales stores (Amazon, PC Aviator, FSPilotShop, TheFlightSimStore, etc.) for purchasing an original copy. Buying from eBay, or the likes, you run the risk of getting non-genuine article.

When buying from eBay, I look for good reputations (99.5%+) from sellers of a large quantity (1000+) of goods. I only ever got one thing that wasn't what I thought it was. That was totally my fault. Wink

Hello Captain Sim forums,
I have the same issue as Steven. I have a store bought FSX and X Pack (not gold Edition). I have installed it 4-5 times over the past years. I just attempted to reinstall FSX last night to repair a bogus add-on that had no uninstaller. I tried the same things as Steven; installer flashes then dissappears. Once or twice a dialog popped up asking if this program has installed correctly. It did not of coarse sense the installer ran for 1/100 of a second. I moved the DVD files to HDD and tried to run from there but no joy.
I have tried disabling my Anti Virus, taking ownership of setup.exe, setting security to full control of setup.exe and adding setup.exe to the Windows Firewall exceptions list. Still no joy.

Undecided

I searched for an answer and finally found this topic.

The best thing to do would be to take a look in the Avsim Forum. They have a separate forum for FSX, and the answer you seek may be there.

MS FSX Forum <- You will need to register or login to access the Avsim Forums! Wink
