Adding Liveries to PW variant problem

Hi, I have noted the post by Markoz which explains very well how to add liveries using the ACE tool and I thank him for it.

However my problem has been that all of the liveries that I have added to the CS_B777-200ER_PW variant have resulted in the exterior of the aircraft as viewed within FSX as missing all the textures associated with the Engines and connecting spar (all of this area is grey).

If I re allocate the same aircraft texture folder (cuting and pasting) in to the CS_B777-200ER_GE variant and edit the aircraft.cfg accordingly within the CS_B777-200ER_GE folder, the engine textures are show correctly.

As I have also purchased the PW 777-200 PW4000 sounds that TSS have produced, I was hoping to inclease the number of PW variants of the 777-200 in order to hear these sounds a little more often.

Thank you for any help with getting liveries to show correctly within the CS_B777-200ER_PW variant.

Regards

Make sure you also add the texture in CFG File (cfg)

[fltsim]

fallback.1=..\texture
fallback.2=..\..\CS_B777-200ER_GE\texture
fallback.3=..\..\CS_B777-200ER_GE\texture\night
fallback.4=..\..\CS_B777-200ER_GE\texture\spec
fallback.5=..\..\CS_B777-200ER_GE\texture\bump

Thank you for the suggestion but unfortunatly it made no difference. The repaints when added to the PW variant do not have engine and engine to wing mounting strut textures.

I have tried adding a good number of captain sim approved CS777-200 liveries which are listed within the logged in area of the support section of the captain sim web sight, which in turn point you to available downloads via the avsim.

Among those that I have tried are the Boeing house livery, Royal Brunei, Qatar, Air Canada, to mention just a few of those I have tried.

None of these and others besides displayed the engine and engine spar connection to the wing textures when installed within the PW aircraft varian of the CS777-200.

Can I ask while we work out what is going on here, are the texture sets which are downloadable (via avsim) identical for use in either PW or GE variants?

If they are identical for both variants and interchangable between PW and GE variants, this might indicate the problem is something to do with the aircraft.cfg entries rather than the texture folders themselves.

Thank you for your continued help.

Hi, charliebravo,

I think that the problem is that earlier versions of the Captain Sim 777 did not have the PW model.  I have the UNITEDGRAY repaint, N788UA, which is of a PW model (all United T7s  ending in "UA" are PW versions; ones ending with a number are former Continental aircraft with GE engines).   I downloaded UNITEDGRAY through Captain Sim's website.   It had the same missing engine texture problem as you describe.

However after reading your post I moved it to the GE 200ER folder and now it works.  The UNITEDGRAY texture was created in June, 2011, most likely before Captain Sim included the PW 200ER model.  So I have to conclude UNITEDGRAY was designed for the earlier model, which is the GE model.

Installing an older PW texture in the PW 200ER folder won't work even with the texture.cfg file pointing to the GE folder, as the model "looks" first in the PW folder.  Since an engine texture with the correct name (but designed for the GE model) is in the texture file, the model will never "look" for engine textures in the GE folder.

To make a long story short, engine textures for 777-200ER PW aircraft created before the 200ER PW model was available, won't work with the PW model, but should work with the GE model.

Whether the PW engines are textured or not, seems to depend on the texture cs777_6_T.dds.

Here is what I mean:

The left half of the image, shows what the original cs777_6_T.dds texture, done by Marcelo Veneziale, for the Boeing House livery looked like. Using it, the 777-200ER_PW's engines were untextured. On the right half of the image, you can see that I copied and added the bottom part to the top part, and now the 777-200ER_PW's engines ARE textured (the only problem is that they are labeled as GE engines on PW engines Grin)

That got it working for me, and switching between the two different DDS file, meant that with one, they were textured and with the other they were not textured.

Thank you for the research and tests you have carried out in line with this topic, at least you can see that the problem I am having isn't a figment of my imagination.

I suppose my best chance is to wait for new texture sets that might be brought out that are made for the more recent PW model.

I am not great at editing texture files but I do understand what you have explained.

Perhaps if any newer PW based textures are know to be out there in the flightsim world, maybe anyone using this forum might be able to add a post within this topic explainig from where they can be downloaded.

Thanks again.

Just to let you know, I did try to edit the texture template (cs777_6_T) for the aircraft I would like to see in the CS 777-200PW variant aircraft folder and it woked just as you described!

Thank you again for the time you took to identify the problem and more importantly, the solution to the problem.
