Depending on whether you have Acceleration installed, or not, determines whether you get the FA-18 OR the LX-45. The FA-18 is only available for those with Acceleration, the rest get the LX-45. So....Because you have Acceleration, you get the FA-18. If you can see it, the install is okay. If you can't, which I think is what you are saying, your install is faulty.

If you installation is not working, there are a few things you might need to do.

1) Instal Weapon for FSX "as an administrator". Right mouse click on the Weapon installer (csw001_1000.exe) and select "Run as an administrator" (second from the top, below OPEN) from the box that shows up.
2) Run the Loader as an administrator so that it can make changes to the aircraft that you want to have weapons. Right Click on the "Loader", select properties, select the Compatibility Tab and place a tick (checkmark) in the option to "Run this program as an administrator".
3) You might also need to run FSX as an administrator IF it is installed in the default location (whivh I think is: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X) so that it will work properly. Right Click on the "fsx.exe", select properties, select the Compatibility Tab and place a tick (checkmark) in the option to "Run this program as an administrator".

If non of that works, just say so and I'll give you a list of more fun things to try. Hopefully that won't be necessary.

Thanks Markoz for your prompt reply, following your instructions I opened file CPT-w001.zip. This produced the file csw001_1000.exe. when right clicked I had the options-----Open, Cut, Copy, Delete, and Properties. But not 'Run as Administrator'

You have to highlight the .exe file first by left clicking once on it, then right click on it and you will then see the drop down menu with the option of "run as administrator".                      BobK

Try copying it or moving it out of the zip file and onto the desktop. From there, you should have the option to "Run as Administrator." I don't think "Run as Administrator" is an option when the file is in a zip folder.

Copaman is right. Winzip doesn't give you the option to "Run as administrator" from within a the zip file. Extract it first and then right mouse click on it. Wink

Thanks for the advice . The present status is as follows---All files are under Administration control. Having installed the programme I opened the FSX file then opened the Captain Sim file which had two files, first a cfg file and Loader.exe which I clicked to open under admin control and was presented with the Account Control option to open. When I clicked OK to open, everyyhing stopped here, no response. Having FSX with Accelation I have Checked F/A-18 but no weapons display. In running the installation I have not been presented wit the options F/A-18 or LX-45. perhaps not significant.

Sounds like something is wrong with the installer. It either didn't activate properly or it didn't install properly.

Check-in to Your Profile > Select product > Extended Download Service > Get New Links

Download it again and install it from the new file.

Have now received my software Disc and regret to say that I nam no further forward. Similar to the download version the programme installs OK, with the location in---FSX/Captain Sim/weapon/Loader.--- I have two files here. cfg, and Loader.exe. Double clicking Loader has no effect. Right click Loader and select 'Run as administrator' had no effect. Again right click Loader and select 'Trouble shoot compatability'select 'Try recommended settings'-Result 'Issues found , Incompatable Application Detected'. Also tried 'Trouble shoot programme with same result. Your comments would be appreciated

1) Did you uninstall Weapon before installing the one on the disc?
2) Have you, at any time since this problem started, done a complete uninstall which includes removing the registry entry as explained in KB #685?

Did you install it as an administrator. I ask this because sometimes when you put the disc in the drive, it will autorun and the application will want to be installed. If that happened, and you just allowed it to install, maybe that is causing the problem. On the other hand, it could be that the Activation didn't work properly (same problem on two different installers) and you need to do #2 above.

As you are running Win7 64bit, is Weapons being loaded into the correct directory as I seem to have seen that Win7 64 bit has this strange structure of program files and then a 86xx program files folder?

I dont have Win7 but recall seeing this somewhere before on a forum.

Very much appreciate your comments. Before I clear the decks and attempt a freash install, I want to follow your advice on removing the registry entry using KB#685. Could you advise a wooden head in a little more detail on where to locate this file, since so far I have not been able to find it.

Windows XP 32bit: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CaptainSim\w001 - delete w001 folder (it might be the same location for Vista & Win7 32bit versions too).
Vista/Windows 7 64bit: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\CaptainSim\w001 - delete w001 folder

Look that the attached image be aware that this is the Windows 7 64bit location. Vista 32bit and Windows 7 32bit registry may or may not have the Wow6432Node section.

This problem is really bugging me. Thought I would mention that I have a second PC. OS XP on which the programme installs and functions perfectly. I have tried saving the 'LOADER' file to disc and transfering it, but it does not work. I am still getting the notice NOT COMPATIBLE. I have not seen any references to this with Windows 7 64bit.

I strongly recommend that you Check-in to Your Profile > Select product (Weapon for FSX) > Extended Download Service > Get New Links and download another installer and try that. If you still get the NOT COMPATIBLE message, something is conflicting with it. I am using it in Windows 7 64bit and it works perfectly fine.

You could try installing it with your Anti Virus software disabled or turned OFF (turned off would be the best) as it might see the Weapon for FSX - Loader as a virus or malware. My Anti Virus program is Avast Free v6.0.1203 and it doesn't see the Weapon for FSX - Loader as a virus or malware on my system. Not sure of other AV Software though.

It could also be worth downloading the new installer with the AV Software OFF.

Apologies if this has been covered already but I couldn't see it.
If I understand it correctly - I run the loader,select an aircraft,select a panel, click install,click exit and then the WCP appears in the 2d panel of the selected aircraft [ not the VC panel] - I've  followed that procedure with several aircraft but cannot see the WCP at all -it never appears -  what am I doing wrong?

Are you using Vista/Win7? Run the Loader as an administrator - Click on START > All Programs > Captain Sim > Weapon for FSX > Right click on Loader and select Run as administrator from the list.

If you are using Vista/Win7 AND FSX installed in the default location (C:\Program Files or C:\Program Files(x86)), go to where FSX is install, find fsx.exe, right click on it, select the compatibility Tab, select Run as administrator, click OK.

It could be worth doing the same thing to the Loader as I describe for fsx.exe. That way the Loader will always runs as an administrator when you use it.

Thank you Mark - I should have said that I'm using Win SP Home Ed.
When I right click on Loader in that, I get the current user [my name]  with a ticked box which says "protect my computer and data from unauthorised program activity......." When I click OK, the Loader box appears with an X on a red background.

That's OK. I could have asked too. Wink

Could it be that your user profile is a Limited account (or a special with some limitations) rather than an Administrative account? I know it is recommended to use Limited accounts to prevent "trojans" from messing up computers. I have never used a Limited account for myself so I'm guessing at this possibly being a factor.

Hi papabravo.

I just re-read your original post and I need to clarify the problem because I might have misunderstood you. If i did misunderstand you, then I have probably sent you on a "wild goose chase". So lets see how I go:

You add the Weapon for FSX to an aircraft, and you start FSX and load that same aircraft. Once ready, you call up the WCP and that works fine. Can you bring up the 2D HUD and HUD Glass? Or is it that you can't find it? If that is the case:

If you look in the FSX\SimObjects\Airplanes\*AIRCRAFT*\panel.csweapon and open the panel.cfg, at the top, it should look something like this:

[Window Titles]
Window00=Main Panel
Window01=Weapon Control Panel
Window02=HUD
Window03=HUD Glass

Window04=Landing View
Window05=Mini Panel
Window10=CS Weather Radar
Window11=Radio Stack
Window12=GPS
Window13=IFR Panel

The above is from the default C172. It is not always in this order, but the bold text shows the three main Weapon additions to the panel.cfg. (Weapon Control Panel, HUD and HUD Glass).

If that is not the problem. Is it the 3D VC HUD that you can't find? If so:

The Weapon "Loader" doesn't add a 3D VC HUD or any other controls to the VC. To add the HUD in the VC, it needs to be done manually and can only replace one that is already included in the aircraft. For example, I can (if I try) add the VC HUD to my Iris Simulations F-14 Tomcat because it already has a VC 3D HUD, but I can't add one to my C172 because it never had one in the first place.

So if you are looking for a VC HUD in any aircraft that has had Weapon "loaded" into it, you won't find it. It has to be done manually and a few others have managed it quite well. If your aircraft already has a HUD and you are wanting to replace it with the Weapon HUD, ask if someone has already done it and is willing to share the changed panel.cfg with you.

I hope this clears this up. And if your problem was the 3D VC HUD, then I did send you on a "wild goose chase" and I apologize for that.

OK.

Have you tried downloading again and then reinstalling Weapon? It might be that your installer is faulty.

Check-in to Your Profile > Select product > Extended Download Service > Get New Links and download it again. Then uninstall the currently installed weapon and install from the new one.

Let's see if that helps.

Well Mark - I've downloaded again, uninstalled the first one and installed the new one. I still can't call up the WCP nor do the entries appear in the panel cfg. [ I was testing in the default Cessna 172]
Any more thoughts?!

I still think it has to do with the installation, possibly the activation has not performed as it should. So...

Uninstall Weapon for FSX, remove the registry entry for it, as per KB #685, then reinstall it (it will require activation again).

The location in the Windows registry is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CaptainSim\w001
You need to delete the folder w001 (see image). Please note that the location in the registry for me is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\WOW6432Node\CaptainSim\w001 because I'm using Windows 7 64bit.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Mark - I've carried out those most recent instructions [reinstalled, activated etc] but I still can't call up the WCP. There is one  improvement from my last position in that the CS panel entries are now in the chosen aircraft folder [they weren't before]
Is there some step I should be taking after running the Loader, installing then exiting? I'm then going to the 2d panel view in the chosen aircraft expecting to see the WCP appear.

Can you copy and paste the WCP entry from one of the aircraft you have added weapon to?

Give me a list, like the following, from the panel.cfg in the panel.csweapon folder

[Window Titles]
Window00=Main Panel
Window01=Weapon Control Panel
Window02=HUD
Window03=HUD Glass
Window04=Landing View
Window05=Mini Panel
Window10=CS Weather Radar
Window11=Radio Stack
Window12=GPS
Window13=IFR Panel

[Window01]
Background_color=0,0,0
no_luminous=1
size_mm=1024, 170
position=7
visible=0
window_size=1.000, 0.170
ident=10901
zorder=2
gauge00=CSWeapon_panel!CSWeapon_panel, 0, 0, 1024, 170

I'm using the default C172 as an example.

You do have FSX SP2 or FSX Acceleration installed?

Thanks. You copy and pasted [Window00] in here but I would like to see [Window01]. Or to know if it differs from mine:

[Window01]
Background_color=0,0,0
no_luminous=1
size_mm=1024, 170
position=7
visible=0
window_size=1.000, 0.170
ident=10901
zorder=2
gauge00=CSWeapon_panel!CSWeapon_panel, 0, 0, 1024, 170

I have the CS Weather Radar added to my C172 as well. So that is one difference you will see. Wink

Thank you Mark
Curiously I have no [Widow01] - they are both [Window00] as posted.
After the two [Window] sections I have the list of gauges, starting gauge00=Cessna!Altimeter,
    One very obvious difference from your's is that I have no gauge00=CSWeapon etc in what is your [Window1] but which is my second [Window00]
Hope all this is making sense.

I think we may just have made a huge leap here. At least I hope so.

Could you click on the email link at the bottom of my reply, attach a copy of the panel.cfg to the email, then send it to me please. I will have a look and see what the problem is, fix it (if the problem is what I think it is), then send it back to you.

Is it an error with my receiving the email, or your sending the email?

The email address in the link is the correct one, so you should be able to send to me.

tks. In my loader i can pick an aircraft FA-18. In my panel there is nothing to pick except a panel. After I hit install it seas weapons install. then I exit. Is this right so far or should there be choices in the select panel. win 7 admin fsx.exe, loader both run as admin.

That sounds like it has worked correctly.

You will need to select the F/A-18 (if you have FSX + Acceleration) or the default Learjet (FSX + SP2). Once FSX is up and you have started a flight with the F/A-18, press SHIFT+1 to see if you get the Weapon Control Panel to show. This is where you turn it ON, select different weapons etc. I find that the Keyboard shortcuts are easy enough to use that I don't bring the WCP up very much.

Have you done that, but you don't see the WCP?

I feel like a fool but I figured it out. I could not find the wcp untill i looked in VIEWS + Instrument Panel there it was and it seams to be working. Just have to learn how to use the functions. Thanks for being there.
