"Flight" Compatibility

Now, nobody can really answer this question, so I'm just looking for an educated guess as an answer. Based on any previous Flight Sim development experience, do you think that planes made for FSX will be compatible with Microsoft Flight or at least be able to be easily adjusted to it?

Thanks,

This is my Guess and it is a guess, if Flight has been rebuilt from the ground up then nothing from fsx will be compatible. But you never know Smiley

If that is the case then i hope its not to much work for the likes of captain sim and other dev's to convert their work to run on flight Smiley

Im also hoping they release the sdk and get some of the best developers involved in the beta sdk before flight is released.

Yeah, releasing the SDK beforehand would be helpful to developers. I'm hoping that developers can and will quickly make their products compatible with Flight, because the program looks amazing, and it would be a shame not to be able to use CS planes in it.

I will admit flight does look amazing but x-plane 10 is looking the better of the two while they are in pre alpha, things that are being added to xp10 we will never see in anything from Microsoft.

If they make Flight incompatible with FSX titles they will give X-Plane (10) a big boost since you have to buy new stuff either way then.
The opposite happens if the already bought FSX stuff fills the niche until native Flight addons arrive.

Hopefully they realize the same thing and make FSX addons compatible.  Smiley

In a way i hope that they dont, but allow an easy process for aircraft to be converted for flight as there is lots of payware i would rather not see in flight for a while. I wont list the payware developers i dont want see making aircraft for flight as their current quality of products is that low im sure you can guess some of them.

I have no issues paying for aircraft for flight even if they are the same aircraft i currently have and from the same developers Smiley

Some developers are worth supporting even if it means i own the same aircraft twice Smiley

I look at it this way. How much does it cost to go and see a movie? How long does that movie last? Going by prices here, you would be looking at $25-$30 (AUD), for a single person and including buying snacks and a drink, to see a movie that lasts about 90-120 minutes. How many hours of entertainment are you going to get from you add-on aircraft?

The value is great, in comparison to a movie, so buying again for a new version of Flight Simulator (Flight) keeps the developer in business. On top of that, many developers offer a discount to owners of previous versions. That makes it a win-win situation in my eyes. Grin

And I really hope that Flight is NOT backwards compatible with FSX. It's time to start nice and fresh.

Hm. Good point, that is true. Though I suppose it will really depend on Flight's capabilities. If it's nearly identical to FSX (which I don't think it will be), then they might as well make the planes compatible. However, if Flight offers a new features and capabilities, I would want to see new aircraft which take advantage of these.

I didnt know that episode 4 was up, its still looking great Smiley

If flight is still a legacy engine like fsx and fs9 was when they was released then i might just stick with fsx, but im hoping that what has been said about it being rebuilt from the ground up is true.

Also if you buy PC Pilot, there has been extra's on flight which in part has covered the poor performance of fsx and how they are trying not to make that mistake again, and in the latest one they had a great interview over X-Plane 10 with a demo video of two of the big features in xp 10 Smiley

Im 100% sure that both platforms will be fully capable showing the best quality payware to the extreme ( this is something we struggle to do with fsx at times ).

Lets hope we can get on an open/closed beta or an msdn beta of flight when the time is right Smiley

Flight looks very good. MS probably used a super computer to run Flight for that video. Once it's on the crummy PCs' we have to use who knows what it will look like.

It was hard to tell from the short view inside the cockpit, but it looks like the interior aircraft graphics are much improved.

Well a company like that has the money for them, we don't. On the other hand, FSX is the only one that still has performance problems five years after release and, like boeing247 says, they do not want a repeat. Today's current computers may not give top performance (as is the MS Flight Simulator way), but a couple of years later the computers start to get good performance out of it. Time will tell.

I've always believed that the demise of the ACES Studio prevented another SP, that could have given us a better performance boost with FSX, that is desperately needed.
