The 727 has various cockpit errors, including the control yokes have the trim on the right side, which is for copilot only, but the model has them on both pilot and FO positions.


Also, why can't they create a cockpit that looks brand new? These ones shown are prtty beat up.

I like the old cockpits. It makes it look more realistic. When people "clean" the CS cockpits, the look... I don't know... fake? plastic?

Now, I understand that you would want clean cockpits... but I like the aged ones better.

This cleaning was pretty good (nice job, Isaan. Even I like it  ), but the old ones seem to have more... personality.

This plane was new in the 60's, and very soon after they started flying as new out of the factory they look like the ones CS has depicted.

I remember flying a very new 727 back in 1968. A few weeks later it was looking like a rental car.

Of course 727s are still operated today.
Maybe they've dropped in some fancy GPS stuff and a FMC-like navigational aid, but the basis is that old thing you are seeing in the sim there.
Altitude alert and some FMC, no Autothrottle, no Autoland, still an FE, no displays except for TCAS or something.

You'll even find the mighty 707 being in service here and there, mostly cargo roles though.

While the military often uses stuff for very long cycles (look a the B-52, being modernized somehow, she will remain in service for some decades to come), some civilian planes receive this honour too. The old DC-3s, some Convairs and lots of other "sixties" stuff (or even older ones) are around in the skies.
I can only recommend the sim flyers to use them online, just to show that some people don't need a FMC to drive that heavy plane around all the 763s out there.  
I guess that some online ATC will be pleased too to see some "exotic" and old aircraft closing in.

Regarding the optics, as Lou said, I don't think that any transportation device in commercial service will look "new" for more than a few weeks after delivery. So the optics in the sim correspond to the real thing while anybody is free to user-edit some textures there of course.
This means that you are not THE pilot, but just the next guy to use her, while another one will jump on the still warm thing when you're done.

I'm with you there, Mark.
And one should also consider that this worn look takes the graphic artists quite some work to do while the sterile and somehow comic-like optics (using phrases from various flight sim forums there) can easily be achieved.

Still, the thing remains personal preference of course, but I'm glad that "worn" is standard at CS planes.

+1 for the "lived-in" look of the current cockpit.  I love the wear and tear!  My cars are all beaters, my 727 should be too.  I wouldn't have it any other way!

Maybe you could ask them to make a new and a dirty version... that would be pretty cool.

That's because the pilots that flew the 727 had a death grip on the yoke! 

All kidding aside, the 707's never looked as bad as the 727 yokes. Maybe it was the paint, but Captain Sim got the look just right.
