Hi.

I have today uploaded to avsim.com and flightsim.com a 1968 style repaint of the Northwest Orient Airlines 707-351. I hope you like it!

Again, same thing I said to david...
The letter fonts are not quite right.
You see, painting is easy...just get the right colors and swoosh, the software washes whatever part of the fuselage you selected. But for the letter fonts you need to have a complete sets of fonts or research hard for the right one. This is the most difficult part in paintings.

Most paints fail at these in some way and that is what first strikes out.
If you didnt fly in Northwest in the 70s, if you are painting just based on photos you saw, then it doesnt affects you.

But if you were alive and travelling in 707s in the 70s you realise such details as fonts...is so important. Otherwise the paint is excellent. Thanks.

Most of the letters (and decals!) are made with vectorgraphics, based on photographs of the real aircraft, and that took some time!!so a lecture on how easy it is to make a repaint seems to me a little out of place.

If I missed something, I hope you can excuse me. I am only human. I can give you, that the white-letter fonds on the tail could be different, the rest is fine (I think!)

It looks good but I agree with you that the tail name needs a change, to be a thicker (bolder) font, see photo below. And I think the other guy might be talking about the registration number "N377US" which on the photo below appears to be in a square type font. Almost like a calculator.

I will look in to the matter when I have some spare time.

It can be really hard to judge from the old and sometimes out of focus photos, wich fond to use. I felt when desiding the fonts for the reg. nr. that they where close to the photocollection I am using, but one can easyly be fooled.

Thanks for the link.

Jakob,
didnt meant to be rude, I loved the tail detail, including the cracks, but felt the font was off, perhaps a little thicker should be ok.

Northwest itself had different font thickness in the 707s. This one is really thick:

and this one is less
http://www.airliners.net/photo/Northwest-Orient-Airlines/Boeing-720-051B/0568626...

but they are a bit different than yours. No big deal but shouldnt be a problem adjusting. Hope my input was constructive. Smiley

Hi Jakob.

Great job. As someone who is no good at doing repaints, you won't hear any complaints from me. If it's close enough, it's good enough. So keep up the great work. Wink

I have this afternoon uploadet a second version of the NW Orient 1968, since Kapitan and Darren L has pointet out inaccuracy in the fonts I have been using for the first upload.

After a thorough examination of the photos at my disposal, I have made corrections and a change of most of the fonds from the first upload (The two gentlemen was right!!) and the version 2 is as close as I can get.

It can really be hard to decide fonts from unsharp and low resolution scans (Some of them more than 40 years old) from the internet, and in addition to that, Nortwest uses several different fonts for the same kind of paintwork through the sixties.

Thanks to Kapitan and Darren for their constructive input. Smiley And now a couple of screens:
