I cannot get the darn CIVA ins to work. I installed the ins 1st then the 707. The I make sure the ins panel cfg is right. I then go into the 707 turn on the batt and grd power and then turn the ins to standby. The thing does not turn on.

I have tried this install and reinstall 5 times today. In the sequence I mentioned above. I even reversed it on the last attempt. I have spent the last 2.5 hours messing with the Fing thing. Pleas sombody help before I break the thing.

Have you already seen this thread? You may need to add a line to your panel.cfg file. If you're in a hurry and just want to set up for a single INS, see Martin's post number 10 for details. If you want to get fancy, see CoolP's post number 9.

The first thing to do to get the CIVA-INS to work is to rename the panel.cfg (something like panel-BAK.cfg), then rename the CIVA_panel.cfg to panel.cfg. Once FSX is started with the CS707, if you are in the VC, press F10 to go to the 2D cockpit (it is just a window with the SimIcons 2D panel) to initialize the INS in the 707. There are instructions on how to move this from [Window00] to [Vcockpit01] in the panel.cfg in the Topic that Barnes pointed out to you.

which isn't easy reading some strong language on the rather small sim problems. Thumbs up on the supporter's attitude.  Smiley And I hope grant has the INS running by now. If not, you know where to ask.

Don't worry. I think the thing with the initial position is the #1 mistake for the folks being new to the INS.

I think I read somewhere that if you install the CIVA INS then the default doppler navigation becomes non operational. I've tried researching this but haven't found any answers. Is this true? If so, to fix it, do I just switch panel.cfg's when I want to use  DN or INS?

I tried using Doppler Nav for the first time in Months after only INS / VOR navigation, but I couldn't get it to work... So my guess is I'm either really dumb (which is possible  Grin Grin Cheesy) or that I read correctly, and it doesn't work with INS installed.

Sorry, but that's not true at all.

I have the CIVA INS installed, I use the civa_panel.cfg renamed as panel.cfg (with minor modifications) and I can use Doppler Navigation, INS Navigation or follow an FS Flight Plan.

Here is how my minor modification looks:
[Window Titles]
Window00=Simicons
Window01=Animations Control
Window02=CS Weather Radar
Window03=Map
Window04=Autopilot
Window05=Crew Messenger
Window06=GPS
Window07=INS Control Display Unit

;CIVA
[Window07]
size_mm=250,368
background_color=0,0,0
window_pos=0.0, 0.050
position=0
visible=0
ident=11041
no_luminous=1

gauge00=../civa/INS!Cdu1,           0,   0, 250, 196
gauge01=../civa/INS!Msu1,           0, 197, 250,  71
gauge02=../civa/INS!Adeu1,          0, 268, 250, 101

As you can see, SHIFT+7 brings up all three parts of the CIVA-INS units. And I have added a default FS GPS 500 (SHIFT+8)as well.

‘707 Captain’ FLIGHT MANUAL Part II – Aircraft and Systems (cs707_manual2.pdf) page 22 - L17. DOPPLER-INS SWITCH
My guess is you did not switch the DOPPLER-INS SWITCH from DOPPLER to INS. Wink

I figured it out. I forgot to engage it on the overhead panel.

This plane using doppler navigation combined with CINA INS is amazing! I've been flying it non-stop for about a month.

Thanks for the great answer!!

If you add the Update indicator to the CDU you get better feedback when you use VOR updating.

[Window06]
size_mm=337,196
background_color=0,0,0
window_pos=0.300, 0.070
position=0
visible=0
ident=11041
no_luminous=1
gauge00=../civa/INS!Cdu1,       87,   0, 250, 196
gauge02=../civa/INS!UpdateFlags, 0,   0,  87,  52

As Markoz mentioned, back up the panel.cfg in case you don't like it.

This puts the Indicator at the top left of the CDU. I usually drag all the gauges to the top right so they are out of the way. I have left them separate as the bottom two gauges are only used on start up and the CDU/Update gauge is used constantly and takes up less screen space by itself.
