It's because the APU is running that you can't change the fuel quantity in the left tank. Turn on external power, turn off the APU (that way your FMC programing doesn't get erased). Also. When you turn external power off, wait until the APU is running (the RUN light remains ON).

If I'm going to sit at the gate for any length of time, I turn on external power and external bleed air. I only turn the APU on just before starting the engines. That way the APU isn't burning fuel.

Hope this helps.

Open the SimIcons Panel (SHIFT + 2) and click on the E icon (the AVAIL light will then be ON on the OH panel) so you can now turn on the External Power.

The External Bleed Air is the BA icon on the SimIcons Panel and provides air for the Air Conditioning AND Engine Start if you so choose. I keep forgetting about the Engine Start and so I keep turning the APU on. Grin

I have a similiar yet different problem. Once I have the flight loaded, I cannot change the fuel quantites via FSX fuel and playload system. I must put xx% in the tanks BEFORE loading the flight. It is only a minor inconvenience but I always like to do two sectors (outbound and inbound) and turnaround fuel cannot be gotten unless I exit and reload flight or fill the centre tank. This works for short hops but not long as centre tanks isn't enough to rech destination.

Has anyone else had this problem or a solution?

Cheers,

Just an annotation to my last post, I have figured out that it is only the left-side tank that I cannot change in FSX flight mode

Hi EI678.

The APU get its fuel from the left wing fuel tank. If the APU is running, you can't change the quantity of fuel in that tank. You need to turn the APU OFF to be able to change it. It is for this reason that I rarely use the APU (especially if you knew how I work out the correct amount of fuel I need for a flight!), I just select the external power and external bleed air. This allows me to take my time setting up my flight and starting the engines (as I stated in Reply#4).

Hope this helps.

EDIT. I replied to this post twice! I had installed Mozilla Firefox and it was placing my tabbed browsing differently to what I had originally had it set at. I thought I had closed the tab before posting the first reply, but I hadn't. I have deleted the second one now. Sorry.  Sad
