Aircraft Name Game 2
Sep 2nd, 2007 at 7:06pm
Print Post
If its OK with Captain Sim, I would like to start  the Aircraft Name Game 2. Now, whether your new or not, it doesn't matter. Everyone is allowed to play.  Wink Now, this time the rules are different, so let me make them clear:

RULES:

1. Someone shows a picture of an aircraft (helicopters count too), and then someone has to say the name of it. If he gets it right he will post another picture of his choice. Then someone has to guess it and add another picture and so on and so on.

2. The Points will be collected at the end of the game, once a certain number of posts have been posted. If someone gets the name of an aircraft right, they get a point. The person with the most points wins!

3. The game ends once we reach 100 posts, or if the game is no longer played.

4. The person posting the picture is allowed to give hints, such as....

  • It begins with B
  • Its made by Lockheed Martin
  • The aircraft is a Boeing ***-300

Its up to the person to decide what the hint will be, but that dose not mean he must give one.

5: Don't cheat by tracking the URL.  Roll Eyes Picture posters, check the picture links to make sure the aircraft name isn't in there before posting it.

6: Don't be crafty, we must be able to see the entire aircraft.  Grin

7: You can post more than 1 picture, but try to keep the picture number low please.

8: The most important one: HAVE FUN!  Smiley

------------------------------------------------------------

So, with that out of the way, lets begin. We will start with this aircraft:

HINT: It begins with the letter F, this military aircraft is employed in air forces around the world. Its codename is named after an animal and its full name is mentioned somewhere in this forum.

Okay, so we both get a point. So, here's the next picture...

HINT: This plane is from the USAF 'X Program'. This was one of the most advanced and complex plane ever built, capable of going beyond MACH 5.9, 7438 km/p (almost 6 times faster than the seed of sound). It is incapable of tacking-off, and was always launched from a specially modified B-52 Stratofortress. It's name is X-**.

Okay, here's the next picture...

HINT: This aircraft is the military version of the Boeing 707. Its name is *-*A ****** AWACS (Aerial Warning And Control System). It is used during battle and monitors the situation. Its main purpose it to tell friendly pilots where the bogeys (enemy) is and what their doing. It can also alert the pilot if a missile is coming towards him, and tell him where to brake.

Okay, this is a Russian aircraft. It was made by the aircraft company 'Sukhoi'. It is an experimental aircraft which can also be referred to as a fighter, although only 1 aircraft is under flyable conditions. This aircraft's performance is only limited to the skill of the pilot. It is very advanced, has incredible manoevering and payload. However, it is very unstable at supersonic speeds. Its name is S*-** CODENAME B*****

Hehe, I'm a pro at military aircrafts / helicopters / hardware.

Its the AH-64 Apache, a rotary-wing attack helicopter, used a lot of by the US Army. The AH-64 was made by Hughes, McDonnell Douglas and Boeing (sector IDS). Since its introductions in 1976, around 1,000 units were made. The prototype was the Model 77/YAH-64. The Apache has seen a lot of action during its history, especially during the Vietnam War.

It uses a lot of advanced computer systems, such as TADS/PNVS systems, GPS and the IHADSS.

Oops, sorry, got a little bit carried away there. Let me find a good picture and I'll post it.  Wink

Okay, here is the next picture:

This is one of the most powerful bombers in the world. Also referred to as the 'Stealth Fighter', this aircraft was made by Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman. The stealth technology used in this aircraft is incredible. It can carry about 336,500 LB of bombs, which is about 60 bombs, each the size of a car (and bigger). The cost of 1 of those aircrafts around 2.5 billion, which is why only 5 aircrafts exist. They are all stored at Edwards Air Force Base, which is home to one of the world's longest runway.

Its size means it can also carry nuclear weapons. Its name is *-*A *****

Here are some more pictures:

Okay, this is a classified aircraft, so its gonna be hard....

This aircraft is a top-secret United States Air Force Black Project. It is a hyper-sonic stealth fighter, thought to be a UAV, or UCAV (Unmanned Combat Areal Vehicle). In the 1990s, a sonic boom was recorded near a location where it was sighted. The electronic instruments predicted that it was going above MACH 11.4 (11 times faster than the speed of sound). Most aircrafts don't even go above MACH 2.

The other sighting was by satellite. A group of scientists were looking at the pacific ocean, until they saw a huge white line being drawn across the sky. When they zoomed in, the object was going so fast that it was impossible to get a good lock on it. They say it crossed the pacific ocean in just a few minuets. They estimated that the aircraft had to be going above MACH 13. It was only reveled to the public by an accidental leak of a secret project, codenamed A*****. The spending on it was twice the cost of 1 atomic bomb.

Its codename is A*****

Here are more pictures:

This is a hard question. This is one of the aircrafts that has fascinated me the most. The few people who saw it described it as a barely noticeable object, as if a shooting star.

If you can't get it, its OK. I'll just do another one.  Wink

Okay, I'll give you another hint. You know the Northern lights? Those light things at the bottom. Well, the aircraft's name is another thing in which you call them:

The Aurora is truly a fascinating aircraft. To think that we have managed to make something that can go more than 13 times the speed of sound. That is 16094 km/p!  Shocked

That looks a lot like the F-16C variant. You can tell by the hardpoints on the mainframe.  Wink

Anyway, that's 1 point to you Finn. Looking forward to your next post. Smiley Search airliners.net if you want some ideas. Wink

Okay, here is the next aircraft....

This aircraft is based on the Boeing 747. Its name is the ***-**. It was made to use an experimental ABL (Airborne Laser) which is capable of shooting down incoming ballistic missiles. It has pin-point accuracy and can shoot a AIM-132 ASRAAM. A version of it has already been made, and the ABL is operational. They are currently passing test trails, and will be put into service soon.

Here are more pictures...

Sorry for the late reply. Here's the next aircraft...

This is a rotary-wing transport aircraft made by Boeing and Bell. It was made to replace the Bell XV-15. It is the fastest helicopter ever built, and is capable of rotating its engines. It does not contain any weapons, and is mostly used for transport but 1 or 2 versions have been made where it is equipped with a gallet gun. The United States Marine Corps and Air Force use a specially modified version which can enter into 'silent mode'. This is when the engine's propellers rotate and make almost no sound at all, making it a stealth aircraft! Even if you where under it while it is in silent mode, you would barely hear it making it an idea aircraft for covert operations. Its name is the *-** ******

Hmm, that's strange. The name you gave me matches an aircraft very similar to it, but it was never made. Its just a blueprint, that was declassified a few years after WWII. Yet your picture shows a real aircraft, not a blueprint, which is why I'm confused. Can you re check the spelling, because right now I have no idea.  Shocked

What about you Lewie?

That's what I thought at first, but the fuel tanks are stored under the wings, so it was hard to see from this angle. Anyway, I'll get the next picture...  Wink

Actually, airlines could decide if they wanted them in the front or under the wings, near the engines. It was a cheaper installation. I don't know if any where made like that those, they had to declare it to the FAA, but I don't know if they approved it or not.

Okay, next plane....

This is a UCAV. It is also a technological test demonstrator aircraft.

Hi again  Smiley

Not exactly, its a UCAV. Some variants were designed as UAVs though. Surveillance drones are know as UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle). UCAVs (Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicle) are combat drones. There are tons of variants made, and a lot of research and testing is going on with it. Its name is the **-* ********

Yes, that's correct.

We've just hit 100 post in this topic. Normally, this should be the end of the game. But since its going so well, if you want we can keep going. Its up to you guys.

If you want to stop, I'll count the scores, and we can start the Aircraft Game 3

Okay, here are the scores:

---------------------------------------------

1st: Pash Master (11)
2nd: TheFinn (7)
3rd: Lewie612 (5)
4th: wabash10 (3)

---------------------------------------------

Well done everyone, it was a good game. The next aircraft name game will be MUCH harder. The rules will be very different, and guessing aircraft names will also be harder. We'll see how it goes.  Wink
