McAfee Virus Protection and Sound Gauge
Aug 11th, 2010 at 12:03pm
Print Post
For some reason (I guess a recent update) my virus protection program has decided Captain Sim sound gauge is a trojan and deletes it every time I try to fly.  The only solution is then to reinstall, and I still have to figure out how to tell stupid McAfee that it has it wrong.

It must be a false alert because our products do not contain any virus, spamware, spyware, etc.

Oh, yes, I didn't mean to suggest otherwise.  I just have to remember to disable my virus protection before launching FSX, which I should probably do anyway.

Thanks, I got rid of McAfee after it invaded my archive to delete installation files for the 757.  Avast looks good so far.

Just make sure, before you start FS, you have it on Silent/Gaming mode. I think it helps.

I have Silent/Gaming mode set to be ON all the time. It's great if you are using an application or game in Full Screen mode. It helps with other games more, in my case, because I mostly use FSX in Windowed Mode. That way I can go to other applications without having the FSX window failing to reappear without having to use the CTRL+ENTER shortcut for Full Screen/Windowed Mode (I always have to go to Windowed Mode before returning to Full Screen Mode).

LOL, I have that probblem too, but when I need more fps, like in the VC during bad weather I get 2-10 fps, but while cruising in windowed mode I get 15-45. I press Alt+Enter when I switch between modes.

I use the Avast antivirus since I can have it in silent/gaming mode, and the best part is, it's FREE!  Grin. I used to have McAfee, but I don't use it anymore.

Before I changed to Avast the only way I could solve this was to stop McAfee by turning off computer protection before starting FSX.  Captain Sim could send a copy of the gauge to McAfee's lab and they would probably correct this.

If you have McAfee it is very unfriendly.  You have to go to the control center and turn off the computer protection part (there is also a firewall and something else, maybe spam, I dunno).  There is no gaming mode.  There is supposedly a way to designate certain items as immune from tampering, but I never figured out how to do it, even with technical support.  Avast is the one with the gaming mode.
