To be clear, I thought the FSX version was fine, other than some minor issues with the FMC. A more nuanced question would be is it a step backwards in any way, or, on the contrary, what new features would I find particularly amazing?

I’d suggest you watch some YouTube videos, systems wise it seems pretty overhauled, and visually it’s a huge upgrade. The FSX version was a joke in comparison. Also read the change logs on the sim ops site, lots of good info there on new features.

The 757 CAPTAIN III FSX version is identical to P3D4/5 version systemwise (besides some 64-bit only features).

If you are comparing the 757 CAPTAIN III the 757 Captain II (2006) let's make it clear to avoid confusion.

FSX definition means nothing because they are both "FSX".

Sorry. It would be the original version that I reviewed for AVSIM, which would, perhaps be 757 I, or original recipe, or whatever, but not v. II. I apologize for the confusion.

This makes me think that the 757 v4.x is the 757 Captain II for FSX, and the 757 Captain I must be the first version done for FS9. Makes sense logically to me. Grin

Mark, I’ve more than hinted at my confusion over the “Rocky” Roman numeral numbering system but it remains a mystery. I suppose I missed a 757 II in my absence. Mea culpa. The 767 and L1011 are both II and “32-bit ports.” They are both attractive purchasing considerations.

In fact, I have seen more enthusiasm on YouTube for the 767 II than the 757 III, although who knows the mysteries of what YouTube decides to show, and the 767 type has more of a history with long-time simmers. I know P3Dv5 is 64 bit. I also know a lot of airplanes—such as an older MD-80 & DC-9—are said to run fine in it. And the two aforementioned v. IIs are explicitly marketed for v5.

Mind you, I have no idea of the practical difference a 32 bit vs 64 bit airplane makes. I have no idea what the advantages of the 757 III are over II or whatever we’re calling the FSX model I had and loved. I intend to buy it—III—because it is perfect for EGLL to LEPA and can make it across the Atlantic, although the 767 would be my choice for that.

I might also pick up the L1011 and the 767. Version II for both.

Exactly. Thanks, Mark
