It gets worse! I got another call yesterday, and someone else needs a computer fixed (no longer starting, but as yet, not sure if it's a BSOD (WinXP Pro)). I would like to do his before I do my wife and daughters, but that would almost be suicidal! My wife is complaining that I am already taking too long to do it.

Oh well, "when it rains, it pours!" HAHAHAHAHA Grin Grin Grin

I received my monitor today, one day early !
It is not a large monitor, but it has impressive cpecs.
1 ms response time, 144 hz refresh rate, led backlite.
On the cartoon   "Nvidia  3D vision ready"

Out of the box, I have a few problems,
I cannot swap this for my Acer 24" and fly.
The view area of the new one 16 X 9, and it is 1 3/4" wider than the old one. The low end of the Acer was in a little V shape, new one straight and not as high. The base is higher and bigger in front.

My sim is a self contained unit. The monitor shows through a window in the front panel. I guess I will need my tools to adjust that window'
To finish the opening clean, I installed some aluminum strips , now they wont fit - a little extra money will fix that ! Always be ready for the unexpected !  If it can fail. it will !!   Cool

Today, I traced the new opening on the front panel of my sim
Then I connected my new monitor on top of my sim
It is connected to a second graphics card- two cards in a box.
I did that to look at the colors and adjustments.
I was to my liking in 5 min.

Tonite I did a flight with my 57. KJAX to KMIA -  35 minutes.
I turned the two monitors on.
After FSX is loaded, the top goes white.
When I did the preflight , I dragged the overhead and the CDU on the upper monitor - for the whole flight. The pointer goes from one monitor to the second , it just goes.

I enjoyed that !

Tomorrow is 3D vision day.  Grin

I have a tiny second monitor, a square one (15" I think), nd I found it very handy for having charts and things (sometimes a manual/tutorial). I appreciate the handiness of a second monitor, but I can only guess what having half a dozen are like! Awesome I would reckon. Unfortunately the power lead to that second monitor is loose fitting in the socket and the monitor was shutting off randomly, so at the moment it is not connected. One day I'll get around to replace the lead and get it working again.

Hi, I enlarged the face of my sim, no problem. then I cut the base of the new monitor. It is round, about 9" across., the cut is about 3 inches in.
It is top and bottom plastic, but there  is a stamped metal disc inside.
After I replaced the blade, I cut it in 1 minute.
I reinstalled my computer, and all the cables. Lot of tie wraps.
This was it for saturday. We were invited at some friends' place. They live in France 6 months and come here another 6 mos for the winter.
The dinner was great !!
Today I went to 3D. It was already there, because when Nvidia installed the graphic drivers It did 3D at the same time.
5 minutes, I was ready.
First I went to my old Cessna 172.
The depth perception is there ! on the side view, 10' of the wing is sticking out the display. Easier to move around the building, you know the distance. This was fun.  On the runway, and rolling, great. In the air,
the buildings look real. Landing was also different, I knew the distance to the runway and when to flare.
In airliners, different.  The 57 and 67 were very similar. Out the windshield, it is real. The view from the tower is incridible. Like looking out the window at the airport. In the air, there is a better feeling of height !!  I stopped these flights short to switch aircraft. Of course my OVH and CDU were on my second display. - not 3D, I see them regular very clearly.
I went to the 777. The VC is completly out the display in front of me about 1 foot away. all the controls, switches are in 3d, the power quadrant in his place, so many details, like a real one in miniature.
When I went to touch the glareshield on top, my hand went through it.
As good as the 777 was looking, I could not fly it. My pointer was in mid space and I could not activate anything.
that is a major drawback for that plane. I will contact Nvidia to try to fix that.
I was moving my head to try to see behind the windshield posts.!!!
With the GA plane, I was lifting my head above the panel to see down in front.
So far so good, but I need to fix the 777.
I was also thinking that two monitors like my new one, side by side in 3d, one in the middle with the VC 3d , one for the OVH on top and a smaller one for the CDU on the console, would yet make things AAA.

The picture is stable, a bit darker than what I am used to, I also dimmed the room some, as recommended. Cool

Happy to hear that you managed to get your new monitor in and that the 3D vision is so great!
Thanks to you, we now now that with the right equipment FSX can move into the world of 3D.

I wonder why the 757 and 767 are fine with the 3D, but not the 777. I would have expected it to be the opposite of that. Shocked

Mark, I think the issue with the 777 is simple. It is a VC and as such the whole panels and cabin is in 3D. I see the ND like a good foot recessed under the glareshield, the throttle levers stick out 6" up. I simply cannot get my pointer to activate anything because it is in space
The whole thing is out the display right in front of me.
In the case of the 57-67, the panels are in 2D, no relief and my pointer is fine. the rest of the cockpit is 3D.  The overhead, on a second display is 2D, no problem
Outside the windshield, all 3D
On some of the controls, in Nvidia, I have a message " controlled by FSX or controlled by the program ? I believe Microsoft got things ready with Nvidia up to a point.  Grin
Today I will try to see if I can do anything about the 777.
The water looks better, the action of the wind is seen on the waves at low alt. Landing west against the wind, the waves go from the beach like they should.   Cool
