FSX in Nvidia stereoscopic 3D Vision (Read 19621 times)

	In an effort to improve realism and immersion I have ordered this Nvidia vision kit to add to my sim. Has anyone got any experience with Nvidia 3D and the result ? Nvidia claims excellent result ! I may have to upgrade my display to 3D ( replace ) � I am also limited to 24" because my sim is a self contained unit, and I have to be able to move it from room to room if need be. 32" wide. � Raymond � Boeing or nothing KFLL �South Florida

	I don't have these, but have thought about it, so I am very interested to hear your results Raymond. Too bad you are limited to such a small display (says me who has a 24" HDMI monitor)!

	Simulators (and pilots) need peripheral vision more than anything else. 3D I don't think will do anything for FSX. I certainly hope you get the experience you're after though. *Remember that pilot who dead sticked a 737-300 onto a NASA levy bank? He only had one eye, that shows how much we use depth perception.

	Cappy, keep an eye opened, I will report on this. Depth perception is a step forward from a flat screen! Nasa at Cap Canaveral has a giant runway that was used to land the space shuttle. 	Mark I missed this one. Years ago when canada switched from british measures to metric. An air Canada pilot on a B767-200 got his fuel loaded in lbs, he though it was kg. Half way to destination, he ran out of fuel at FL400 around Winnipeg Man, �being a former Air Force pilot, he remembered an old training field now deserted.called Gimli �He glided his plane there and landed succesfully. The last time being about a month or so ago. National Geographic runs 2 episodes of Air Crash Investigation a night, from Monday to Friday. So I get to watch them a lot.

	I remember this incident live, a long time ago. They made a movie out of that. I think called �" Gimli Glider " There was some damage to the plane, but it took off two days later Same here for the Air Crashes Investigations. Air accidents are never one issue, more like a chain of issues ! As a Private Pilot in GA, I can say that depth perception is vital to the operation of small aircrafts, but of course you need the periphery also ,it is more like the total situation assessment. 	Good and bad news, I received my Nvidia 3d vision kit today ! there is not much documentation with this. I took the quick start guide - the only guide ! and ran the CD - software installation and manuals. After a number of pages of Nvidia promotion I got the result about the system requirements. All green lights except my display. It carried a big X over it. End of installation. Then a list of displays that do 3d. The lenses are in a teint of light grey, carry a battery, and respond to an IR emitter on top of my sim. All this driven by Nvidia, it is called: �active shutter glasses. My next step is pretty clear ! � There is also compatibility to a number of projectors this is not far from peripheral vision on a nice 160 degrees curve set up. 	I take it you need to buy a monitor that is compatible with the Nvidia 3D Vision? Wouldn't they, shouldn't they, have a list of compatible monitors on their website?

	They call these " Supported 3D ready displays" I never went to their website !! � There are many options, but it has to fit my sim, 24", I have looked at 27" but it would be very tight, I have my switch panel, the yoke and two speakers under the display and then the pedal well. In my sitting position. my eyes are at the middle of the display, my knees are bent up so I can rest my forearms, and I can apply toe brake easily because I sit close to the front panel. Beyond 3D, I am planning a major upgrade � �in the planning stage yet. Raymond � Boeing or nothing KFLL �South florida

	There was no need. Nvidia installed two programs in my computer. One is called Nvidia control panel. you should have that also. The second one is called Nvidia GE Force experience. The "My rig " option lists me with two GPU, which I have . I never used the second one, but I found a use for it- that is the future ! Followed by a description of my system. One thing I know for sure, the CS planes like my "rig" � Raymond � Boeing or nothing KFLL � �South Florida

I have always felt that CS products have been happy with my "rigs" - originally a Core 2 Duo Q9550, then my i7 870, and now this one. FSX is an absolute mess on my PC at the moment, so I desperately need to uninstall every thing, then reinstall it all again (headache material). I hope to be getting my mew 4GB GTX770 OC on Monday, so I plan to do it all after I get that. I had a bit of drama removing Windows 8.1 Preview, then reinstalling Windows 8 Pro 64bit, followed by 1 gig of updates THEN upgrading to Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit. I still have to install FSX and all my CS aircraft in that too now. And on top of all that, I now have to build a computer for a friend AND upgrade my wife's computer as well. After that, my daughter is going to get the old components from my wife's current computer. So I really have a lot on my plate at the moment. At least it should keep me out of trouble for a while.

	Wow ! you are a busy guy ! I finished shpping and I bought a 3D display 24" I ended up shoosing and Asus VG248Qe The specs exceed the requirements of Nvidia . The price was right - under 300.00 shipping included. In the larger sizes, the prices were very steep a 27 was 700.00 up to about 2600, in the 45 inches.. I should get it thursday! In the mean time, I charged the battery in the glasses. USB in the computer. 40 hrs of use, fully charged. Raymond Boeing or nothing KFLL South Florida
