Taxi Camera

I was just wondering if Captain Sim is considering putting a taxi camera on the 777.
I was watching a cockpit video and seen that it seems to be used quite often.
It would be great to have one built into the center DU.

To my knowledge, it is not possible within FSX (at least with still getting good frame rates)

The taxi cameras are only installed on 777-300 models. I recall CS stating that they were only planning to put external cameras. Who knows, maybe they might change their mind  Wink

Not sure if you can make a gauge that can display an exterior view of the aircraft, but I would have thought it might be possible.

BUT....I think it would have an effect on the FPS if it was done. Sad

The product description says the 300 has taxi camera, and the exterior only is greyed out, which seems to me that it should have functional taxi cameras. I know that this would involve considerable programming, but would only be used on ground manouevering operations, If it is not operational, then I think it should be deleted from the product description, since it is misleading

When something that CS says is greyed out, in this case "exterior only", it means that this will be a feature of the plane but has not yet been implemented in the current release. Usually it will be added in in a future free update.

I asked them about this when it came out. By this they mean that you can zoom in very close on the external model and see where the physical camera is. If you look in the manual Part I you can see it in the section "How are the 777-300 and 777-300ER different from the 777-200ER" on page 42.

It is very possible to display the exterior with a camera because another company did it with there FLIR with no frame loss

I think he was talking about another developer (not making a 777) that has a FLIR on their "hovering airplane serving the Royal Air Force, Royal Navy, and US Marines" (if you get where I'm going with this; not sure if CS would like me to say the developer and aircraft type)  Wink

I still say it would have a frame rate hit on the CS777 if they were to do it. Sad

Lovely use of the EZDOK technology there, I hadn't even thought about that but will do the same. A 'proper' camera would be awesome for this model but technologically really challenging I would say.

Just press the "[" key and change the new view to an exterior view and you have your "taxi camera"! When I'm flying the large jets (the 777, 747, MD11 or A300) I often open a new view while taxiing, to make sure I keep the land gear on the bitumen. My frame rates drop when I do it, but it is worth it to keep on the taxiway. Wink
