Fix for missing end of route

Today we are doing a flight from Melbourne Intl (YMML) to Canberra Intl (YSCB).

LSK = Line Select Key.
R1-6 = Right side keys 1-6 (from the top down).
L1-6 = Left side keys 1-6 (from the top down).

LSKs

I am going to assume that you have fired up the CS 767-300 and turned the three IRS Mode Selector knobs to NAV and have aligned them by entering the co-ordinates of the 767 on the POS page of the CDU.

We go to the Route Page by pressing the RTE button on the CDU and enter YMML as the departure airport and YSCB as the arrival airport (pic01)

Pic01

Next. We enter the DEP, by pressing the DEP/ARR button on the CDU. Select LSK L1 <DEP (beside YMML).
Once you enter the YMML DEPARTURES page, select runway 16 and SID DOSEL8 (pic02).
Then press LSK R6 (beside <ROUTE) to return to the route page.

Pic02

Then press NEXT PAGE to go to ROUTE page 2/2 (pic03).

Pic03

Now we enter Jetway Y59 in LSK L2 and EBONY in LSK R2. This means that we are using Jetway Y59 to waypoint EBONY (pic04). We could, in this case, use a DIRECT EBONY if we wanted to, because EBONY is the next waypoint after DOSEL.

Pic04

Now we need to do our arrival STAR and TRANS, so press the DEP/ARR button, then the LSK R2 ARR> (beside YSCB).
In this order, on the right side, select ILS35-Y, then MENZI, there is no STAR select after doing that, so under STAR you see -NONE- (pic05).
Return to the ROUTE page by pressing LSK R6.

Pic05

After returning to the ROUTE page, press NEXT PAGE to go page 2/2.
Notice that upon reaching page 2/2, nothing has been added to our route at all (pic06)!

Pic06

We go to LEGS page 2/2, and we see that there are no waypoints following EBONY (pic07)!
We have a problem, our arrival runway has not been added to the route. We need to fix this.

Pic07

We return to the APP/DEP page and select ARR on LSK R2 (beside YSCB) and upon entering the page, we can see that ILS35-Y is still listed as the selected (<SEL>) approach (pic08), but is not showing up on the ROUTE or LEGS pages!

Pic08

So here is how we can fix this! Click on NEXT PAGE and select 35 (plain old 35 without any ILS or RNAV, nothing), Then select the STAR POLI2A and TRANS EBONY (pic09). Now press LSK R6 (beside <ROUTE).

Pic09

then NEXT PAGE to go to ROUTE page 2/2. Well what do you know, our route now looks complete! We no longer have the route ending at EBONY, it now continues on to RW35 (pic10)

Pic10

Activate the route, finish off the PERF INIT and TAKEOFF pages, go back and have a look at the LEGS pages 2/3 (pic11) and page 3/3 (pic12) and we find that our route even has a T/D and descent to the runway. The only drawback to this fix is that we don’t get an ILS frequency and heading. This will need to be obtained from charts, or going to the Map (ALT > World > Map) and looking up the ILS for YSCB runway 35.

Pic11                                                                                                         Pic12

So there you have it. A route that originally didn’t take us to the arrival runway, now does.

so that is how I get around the problem of the route ending before the STAR and APPROACH, or the just the APPROACH.
This has worked every time I have tried it.

Hi,
thanks for the useful advice. So, simply the trick is to choose a plain runway (or without the parafernalia ILS, VOR pre- and suffixes). Did I understand correctly? or at least it worked in a flight from Trieste to Venice on board of a 757. Of course I'll fly again on different routes.
But let me say; I list Captain Sim on top of FSX airplanes producers; even more of another company for the design accuracy. So it's much disappointing that I didn't find any patch about this bug, 'couse I don't think to be the only one facing this problem.  Smiley

That's correct. The fix for when the Route goes missing after the last waypoint, BEFORE the STAR begins, has worked on every flight plan I have tried it on so far.

If you have a program like SimPlatesX ULTRA, or SimPlatesX, (or cheaper still, if you know where to access the charts online) you can add the waypoints for the STAR and APPROACH and any SPEED/ALTITUDE CONSTRAINTS that go with them to complete the route correctly.

Just an observation/thought:

I had these issues in the beginning with all three 757, 767 and 777.
However, in the meantime I´ve had quite a few flights with all of them, and the issues with missing End of route and T/D seem to have vanished. Maybe I have just been lucky to use some airports that the FMC could “catch”. But I have used new Dep and ARR airports on each flight – programming went just effortless after a the very first 2-3 flights where I needed such fixes.

The way I´m programming the route is, using the freeware Flight planner; RFinder.asalink.net/free
1)      In the DEP/ARR section; type in Departure airport with RWY and SID
2)      From SID, I program the entire route. Last waypoint is the STAR of the Arrival airport.
3)      Navigating to the arrival airport in FSX map section, I find a proper RWY, and enter this in the FMC along with the proper STAR according to the flight plan.

I may end up with some silly arrivals, but this can be corrected in the LEGS section.

Using this procedure, I´ve not had any such issues in the latest 15-20 flights.

BR,
Anders

It could come down to the AIRAC you use. If you update them from Navigraph every month, like I do, then the problem seems to increase as the newer AIRAC's are changing. I mostly have the problem on runways with a designation of X, Y or Z (i.e. ILS34LX, ILS34LY or ILS34LZ). These are getting more common every month, so the problem is increasing (for me) in the 757 & 767. Since the release of the 777 v1.2, it is less of a problem in that aircraft, but it is still there. So Captain Sim are aware the problem and are dealing with it (at least with the 777 Grin).

What are these X, Y, and Z? I have noticed that, too, and I don't remember it from before. The No-TD-No-End-Of-Route seems to be a matter of tweaking, persistence and trying different things. With the tricks you've come up with, maybe their not the show-stoppers I once feared.

Not being in the industry, I have no idea for why they use the X, Y and Z suffixes. Looking at the entries in the iaps.db file, there is no difference at all between them, yet they seem to cause the CS FMC to have an error.

Take a look at these two for the Sydney (YSSY) ILS16L runway. I have put the difference between the two in bolt text:

Unbelievable, but that's the only difference I found! To experiment, I'm going to get rid of one entry, and remove the I16LY or I16LZ from the one that I don't remove, to see what happens.

Just call me crazy for trying it. Cheesy Grin Wink

Mark,  I say that CS programmation is right. My airplanes never miss TD and my FMC always has the message " End of rte" after landing.  Will also show the message if I missed the approach and fly over that point. !!
It is only that some computers dont read it ! Why?  I dont know.
My 67 is the only one perfect in the descent. It will get to ED proper,
with the desc path bug, in the middle. My other two, are always early.
Why?  I dont know. Stars and Trans are full of surprises !
My airplanes capture the wpts of the Trans but will not capture the Star
wpts - I have to use Heading and manage some tight turns.
The logic of the Clb is off for the three airplanes. Otherwise it is pretty near perfect.  Grin  Shocked
