Problem setting speed on the auto pilot panel.

Hi again everyone, I am having an annoying problem with the auto pilot speed input knob. When I try to increase or decrease the speed on the auto pilot panel the "numbers" seem to "race" up or down and sometimes in the opposite direction!  Angry This of course, leads to sloppy handling of the aircraft as I "race" to stop it before the engines spool all the way up or down and also makes difficult to comply with the ATC if  they were to give you specific speed instructions.  Is this a bug or I am not doing it right? Is this a mouse issue? Would getting a external "auto pilot peripheral" help and can anyone recommend one? As always, thanks in advance.  Undecided

To avoid that from happening, at critical times like landing, I change the speed by clicking on the numerals themselves, rather than on the knob.

Okay. The problem occurs for me if the 'hand icon' loses focus on the knob, or I use the mouse wheel by accident.

Another idea for that might help with the 'hand icon' losing focus, is to reduce the amount of dynamic head movement in the VC. You can change the settings in the fsx.cfg (type %AppData%\Microsoft\FSX\fsx.CFG in the Run command to open the fsx.cfg)

This is from the FSX SDK:

Quote:
Dynamic Head Movement

The Flight Simulator X camera system can compute acceleration parameters to simulate head movement. The effect is controlled by settings in the FSX.CFG file, which can be found in the <Drive:>\Documents and Settings\<alias>\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX folder.

Flight Simulator uses these settings to compute how much camera acceleration (pitch, roll, side-to-side, and fore-to-aft) is generated in relation to aircraft accelerations. The table below describes each setting. Note that negative numbers move the camera in the opposite direction to the acceleration.

[dynamicheadmovement]
Property   Type Default Description   Examples
lonaccelonheadlon float -0.02 Computes the camera’s longitudinal (fore-to-back) change generated by longitudinal acceleration of the aircraft.   LonAccelOnHeadLon=-0.020000
lonaccelonheadpitch float -0.01 Computes the camera’s pitch change generated by longitudinal acceleration of the aircraft. LonAccelOnHeadPitch=-0.010000
rollaccelonheadlat float 0.01 Computes the camera’s lateral (side-to-side) change generated by rolling acceleration of the aircraft. RollAccelOnHeadLat=0.010000
yawaccelonheadlat float -0.1 Computes the camera’s lateral (side-to-side) change generated by yawing acceleration of the aircraft. YawAccelOnHeadLat=-0.100000
rollaccelonheadroll float 0.1 Computes the camera’s rolling motion generated by rolling acceleration of the aircraft. RollAccelOnHeadRoll=0.100000
maxheadangle float 5.0 Maximum allowed angular change in degrees. MaxHeadAngle=5.000000
maxheadoffset float 0.3 Maximum allowed lateral change in feet. MaxHeadOffset=0.300000
headmovetimeconstant float 1.0   Acceleration multiplier (higher numbers increase responsiveness). HeadMoveTimeConstant=1.000000

And this is what it looks like in my fsx.cfg (no changes):

[DynamicHeadMovement]
HeadMoveTimeConstant=1.000000
LonAccelOnHeadLon=-0.020000
LonAccelOnHeadPitch=-0.010000
MaxHeadAngle=5.000000
MaxHeadOffset=0.300000
RollAccelOnHeadLat=0.010000
RollAccelOnHeadRoll=0.100000
YawAccelOnHeadLat=-0.100000

Hi again Markoz,  I tried your suggestion of just clicking the numbers and that is working much better than clicking the knob.  However, that "mouse  focus" idea could be part of the problem. But for now,  rather then edit the cfg. file- I will just stick to clicking the numbers. Thanks again. Smiley
