HDG hold and select

I'm sure this is covered elsewhere, but am battling to find info, so please humore me. For some od reason my Heading hold does not seem to work. I turn my hdg hold on if for eg I'm flying on a hdg of 090 and I want to fly 120 degrees, I move the wheel so that I get the desired heading, but the aircraft will only turn to within 10 or so degrees. What am I doing wrong? I use hdg quite a bit when flying approach vectors from ATC.

I'm probably doing something very basic wrong, but I can't figure wrong. This works different from what I know. I'm assuming the 757 is similar, So might as well find out now.

Press SEL, in the centre of the button HDG. To change the heading you are flying, the MCP needs to be in Heading SELect mode, not Heading HOLD mode.
