C-130 electric.gau crashing issue

Hi,

This is my first post on the Captain Sim forum. I bought the Captain Sim C-130 last year and it worked great. Now, I had to reinstall FSX and all my addons due to my hard drive having to be sweeped completely because of a virus i was unaware of (wasn't from this product). But now, I have this problem for the past week.

When I install the C-130 (as admin), the install goes fine, but when I select it and it asks me about 'do I want to run ****.gau' (and i have heard about the sound.gau issue so i don't run that), when i get to the electric.gau and i run it, FSX stops working. The reason i want to run the electric.gau is because this file is what assigns the engines to start up and run. Somebody please help me with this problem if you've had it in the past ( and I am not talking about the sound.gau file).

Here are my specs if needed:

Windows Vista Home Premium 32-Bit OS w/SP2 installed
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4000x 2.10 GHz
2.00 GB Memory
Compaq WF 1907 Monitor

Although there are strange goings on with the sounds on the C-130, I continue to use them the way they are installed, so that means I have accepted all the gauges that FSX has asked me to, for all the different C-130's - I have the C-130 X-perience (All-in-One Pack).

You might try installing the C-130 but not the sound pack that installs at the end of the installation. Doing that made no difference to the way the sounds get messed up, nor the performance of the C-130's.

I assume you install it using "Run as administrator".

I used run as admin but that doesn't change anything. By the way, how do you NOT install the sound pack at the end of the install?

Right at the end of installing the C-130 X-perience, a box pops up about installing open al. In the box it says something about Creative Labs, Inc., (it also has what looks like a microphone between the words open and al) so I have always assumed it is sound related. I just select CANCEL and it does not install open al. As soon as I select CANCEL, the installation of the C-130 is finished. Wink

I have attached an image of the box that pops up so you can see what I'm talking about.

I'm not sure if it makes any difference, but I have installed the C-130 with and without it and it always works fine regardless of that being installed.

EDIT. I found this about OPENAL: OpenAL is a cross-platform 3D audio API appropriate for use with gaming applications and many other types of audio applications.

For more info, see here: http://connect.creativelabs.com/openal/default.aspx

Thanks, Mark, but I am still in the hangar with the props spinning. No joy.
