FSX re-install

OK I've just re-installed FSX after a layoff of 12 months or so.

I was going to ask you guys what add ons I should be looking at.
Instead I've come across Prepar3d (told you I've had a hiatus.) So what do you guys think?

Should I continue with re-installing FSX to a high standard or do I stop now and purchase prepar3d?

Do CS add-ons run with prepar3d?

I have both installed. Wink

You will need FSX installed or some of you addon aircraft will not install at all. It needs to be installed in FSX, then moved to P3D.

All my Captain Sim aircraft work great in Prepar3D, but I have to copy them from FSX.

Do you think it's worth the $200 Mark?

I guess it's much more than $200. REX for one would need to be re-purchased wouldn't it?

You will need to check out each publisher info on what will and will not work with P3D. I've seen posts in forums mentioning the use of REX being used for real weather in P3D, so I guess it works. P3D does not use a real weather engine, so unless you use a third party addon, like REX or AS2012, you can only select the standard themes available, which are the same as the ones in FSX.

Many others are providing info on how to use different products in P3D, but I haven't found many yet. I am slowly moving many of my favourite addons over to P3D.

Only you can decide if 200 dollars is worth spending on it. I think it is. It looks very nice and I have found it to be more stable than FSX.

Thanks for the advice Mark.
I really want to get it set up correctly this time and get some good add ons. I purchased FSDT GSX last night and I'm really happy with that.

EZCA is a right old pain, I'd ditch it if it wasn't for the movement effects. That's all I want, the author should produce a "lite" version that just gives the head bob from the pilots position. I don't use all the other stuff and those extras cause so many conflicts.
All my views were messed up and my joystick assignments weren't sticking on shutdown. So I've seen you post recently about doing a repair. Great idea I thought so I inserted disc one then two and it did it's thing. Then when I went to restart FSX I had no worky, this had me stumped so off I went to google. My problem was that I own FSX Gold which includes Acceleration and what I needed to do was insert the Acceleration disc and do the repair from there. I now have a usable FSX again but lesson learnt.  Wink

I wonder if Captain Sim could manufacture a head bob for the pilot view only on the 777? That would change the FSX world somewhat!

I gave up on EZCA and I now just stick to the standard views. OR I modify the default views (that come with the aircraft). OR I'll add some of my own if I think it needs them. Grin

Mark can I ask what flight planner you are using?
I've been looking at both FScommander and FSbuild.
I need to generate in .rte format and also the standard fsx format (whatever that is)
Also when I  rebuilt my system I saved my entire FSX hard drive onto another drive. Any idea how I can pull the logbook out from the old installation and copy it over to my new one?

I use Flight Sim Commander 9.2 to create flight plans. I creates both the .rte and FSX format plans. I don't know how it compares with FS Build for flight plans as I have never used it.

The logbook.BIN file is what you need from your previous FSX installation. It is located in (My) Documents\Flight Simulator X Files folder. If you did not delete or remove anything from there before reinstalling FSX, FSX will continue to use it.

Yeah the old FSX file structure is on another drive and unusable.
So I can copy the logbook file out of there and into my working fsx?

That's the reason I kept it, my old mate, justin case.  Grin

Thanks, Flight Sim Commander it will be.
