Hi guys;

I just tried flying an autopilot approach.

I was 10 miles out at 2500ft, 30 degrees off the localiser. I had both roll and pitch channels engaged, with the flight director in HDG mode, the AP had the HDG SLT and ALT HLD modes engaged and she was flying along happily. I then switched the FD to AUTO APP and the AP to AUTO APP. With that the Green indicator on both FD and AP progress display illuminated and the aircraft went into a very steep (40 degree) bank in the wrong direction, and flew 20 degrees nose down into the ground.

I tried this 3 times.

Has anyone else flown a sucessful ILS on the AP?

(I've also noticed that the CWS roll mode is doing something a little odd but thats a different topic).

I have flown many successful ILS approaches, without it ever doing what yours did. I usually let the Autopilot fly the ILS until I reach DH (200 feet), then I turn the Autopilot OFF and land manually.

Toggle switch just above the Outer Marker light on the Pilot's main instrument panel.

The autopilot for me was not doing a good capture on either Localizer or regular VOR.  It would tend to overshoot the centerline and come back on course.  This wa a known "feature" for several FS versions.  I had some mods that I tried and now it works perfect for me.

Here's the AUTPILOT section of the aircraft.cfg file.  Each line that is modified below has the old value indicated.  Try this if you like but make sure to back up the original first.

Also note that the max bank angle was 30,25,20,15,10 but that was only useful for the default 737-800 which has a switch to select the max bank angle.  I chose 25 and it seems to be perfect. The changes should be noted in RED.

autopilot_available=1
flight_director_available=1
default_vertical_speed=1800
autothrottle_available=1
autothrottle_arming_required=1
autothrottle_max_rpm = 90
autothrottle_takeoff_ga=1
pitch_takeoff_ga = 8
max_pitch=10.0
max_pitch_acceleration=1.0
max_pitch_velocity_lo_alt=2.0
max_pitch_velocity_hi_alt=1.5
max_pitch_velocity_lo_alt_breakpoint=20000.0
max_pitch_velocity_hi_alt_breakpoint=28000.0
max_bank=25                  //was 30,25,20,15,10
max_bank_acceleration=1.8
max_bank_velocity=3.00
max_throttle_rate=0.10
nav_proportional_control=17.00   //was 12.00
nav_integrator_control=0.01      //was 0.25

nav_derivative_control=0.00
nav_integrator_boundary=2.50
nav_derivative_boundary=0.35     //was 0.00
gs_proportional_control=25.0
gs_integrator_control=0.53
gs_derivative_control=0.00
gs_integrator_boundary=0.70
gs_derivative_boundary=0.00
yaw_damper_gain=1.0

As in all updates/tweaks, YMMV.  Grin

Hi Phill.

Thanks for that. But, out of curiosity, why not have the max_bank=25,20,15,10 instead of max_bank=25? This would allow you to reduce the maximum bank angle, which comes in handy some times.

I don't believer there is a way to select the banik angle in the CS732.  I could be wrong, but it felt like it was defaulting to a lower value.  Perhaps that particular parameter is OK using either but when I tried several ILS captures and several VOR captures, it worked really good for me using 25.

If you know how you can select the bank angle from the cockpit, let me know. However, even in the 737-800 I always left the selector on 30.

Thanks,
Phill

I'm mainly wandering if the original settings are there so that the CWS has a way of holding the bank angle. When I'm using the CWS, it seems to hold in the positions of 5 degree increments (including at 5 degrees, which is not listed). I could test it myself to see, but I thought you might already know.

Hello All,

I didn't want to start a new topic since my question is related to APP.
Just curious if B737-200 has autothrottle feature?
My assumption is not as I saw many references to manual throttle adjustments in "Normal Procedures".
In case I'm wrong, could you please let me know how to engage it?
I saw EPR selector and IAS cursor selectors but those are just targets and they do not influence the throttle I guess.

Thanks in advance.

No autothrottle.
Correct, the EPR and speed bugs are references only. When the PDCS is fixed in a future 1.x update it is supposed to set the bugs automatically according to the load/performance data you input, but manual setting is also normal procedure.

You can do it yourself if you want to. I did. But I have gone back to the way it was originally done by Captain Sim, because the A/T was unrealistic.

Thanks.
Is there any CaptainSim 737 extensions that have a newer AP dash?
I just want to find B737 with AT.
