Iran Air repaint(s) WIP

Print Post
Hi

I'm currently working on a series of Iran Airlines repaints. It should include a pre-revolution, post-revolution and "modern" variant of the 707-300 Convertibles they operated.  My list of projects to come (if I ever find time to complete them...) also includes a similar pack for the 727 and an "Eastern 707s" list of liveries.

Here's a quick peek at the "vintage" paint job : Mostly complete, just need to iron out some misalignment issues and add the lettering.

Cheers

Nico

That's too kind, considering the picture doesn't show much Wink Here's another angle, still WIP :

Angle achieved in slew mode, trying to get a better view of the belly...

did you find a solution to apply a real chrome effect on the 707? I am trying for years now, but no real success Sad

No, I haven't, and haven't tried either since I don't really like the chrome effect in FSX. I would try using darker textures for the alpha layer, like for the windows. That technique doesn't seem to work for all models though... Works very well with the models from a certain GA - focused other developer with a Spanish-sounding name Smiley

Nico,

Your re-paints of the Iran Air 707 look very good. Back in the early 70's I was on furlough from TWA and got a job working for Iran Air for a short time until I was recalled back to TWA. I had a great time working there. The folks were wonderful to work with and the planes were mostly brand new so every thing worked. Later, Iran Air bought a few of our 747-SP's. They modified the upper deck lounge with a massive samovar. It was spectacular!

In your first capture at the start of the thread it looks like you have full nose down elevator!  Shocked Easy on the drinks!!!  Grin

Thanks LOU, I hope the final repaints will do them justice. Good eye there, full nose down indeed, as I was trying to level it after a slew mode 90° nose up "climb" to get some light on the underbelly.

But you're right, I should probably lay off the coffee Cheesy

And there she is, in all her 1970s glory. Reg. Nbr EP-IR? to represent the fleet rather than a particular aircraft. Next up are a freighter version, a 1980s (post revolution markings) Convertible, and a "modern" white-and-grey livery.

Hope you like. Criticism and suggestions are of course most welcome.

Will release along with the others when they're ready, which should be very soon now that the biggest part is done.

Cheers

Nice job Nico!

Iran Air had a cool jingle in their radio ad campaign in the New York area back before the ouster of the Shah.

It went something like this...

It was Persia long ago
Now it's called IRAN you know
In our hearts and many more ways
IRAN AIR is going your way

Seems a bit strange in today's times, but all things do change.

Seems more like an epic movie intro to prince of Persia than an airline jingle, but it is catchy.

Hi

Just to let you know they are nearing completion. Will be 5 repaints total, including a freighter. I ran into some unexpected bugs, had to fix and replace a few things, but they should be ready by the beginning of next week.

Cheers

Nico, great job, looks just like they did almost 40 years ago.

The 727's were real new in the early 70's and hence very clean!  Cool

Check-in to Your Profile > Product (707 Captain (707-300) Base Pack [FSX]) > Get Free Liveries

Just type Iran in the search field.
