Last Free Update for the 757?

I just came across this, but is this update (4.6) the last free update for the 757? Or am I just misunderstanding this? If it is, does that mean that further development for the 757 is done? Or is there more to come?

Thanks,
Tom

The 4.6 is the last free update of the 757 Captain. You didn't read it wrong. The term "last free update" makes me think that it might not be the end of the 757 just yet. But I could be wrong. Undecided

Maybe they mean that it is  the last "free update".After this maybe updates will be pay stuff ? I don't mind it really as long as this update  works the way it should.

Btw, I installed  vs 4.6 and took it for a spin ekch-eddh and all seems ok so far.Fingers crossed !

Thank you for comments.
We  believe  that  5  years of free updates is enough. However we will countinue development  of  the 757 family. Most likely the next 757 product is going to be the 757  Captain  5.0.  Features list and pricing options TBA.

I am standing-by for Ver-5!

As I have said many times before on this forum, I love all the Boeing planes, but the 757 was and is my all time favorite!  Cool

Best all around plane for any mission. Short flights, long flights, short fields, you name it the bird can do it, and make money too!  Roll Eyes

You mean 5 years worth of updates is way way too much?

I'm voting for V5, with Lou doing the callouts and checklists, although that may be FO stuff.  Undecided

At another dev, the crew sometimes suggests that I should do some more training on landings, so expect Lou's voice there. 'Son, do you really think that was a good one?'

OK, if that was the last free-update!? in future i will think twice befor i buy a CS produkt, or wait until it is flyable...

Sry guys, but that is not correct in my eyes. OK 5 years of support is realy grea,t but this also includes that this aircraft wasn´t ready at all...
All comming Versions are fixing something like a "hotfix" and hotfixes where never to buy, there are always free.

Please, next time think twice befor release a "non ready" product and do a longer beta with maybe more beta testers, in my opinion!

regards

PS: CS will do a very good job, but all SP´s and fixes are only for supporting the costumers...

While I think that some guys around 'overrev' a bit in their reactions, there's something true and reasonable in them.

We may assume two categories of updates (regardless if being free or not).
1) the ones necessary to make the product work or to fix major bugs and flaws
2) the ones adding features and options

We saw a mixture of those two categories on some service packs. E. g. 4.3 gave us Navigraph support, 4.4 added the weather radar and so on.
But, you guys are correct, some parts of the updates always had to fix more or less vital things on the plane.

With 4.5, a 4.6 was needed because 4.5 mixed up quite some systems and rendered the plane unusable at some ends.
So that 4.5 to 4.6 update was needed and therefore clearly category 1 for example.

So, even as a big fan of CS aircraft, I'd say it's a bit too easy to summarize all updates as the ones in category 2.
I'm thankful for all the added features, some are noted above. But we shouldn't communicate clear cat 1 bugfixes as 'updates a customer has to be thankful for'. That would actually miss the point in my eyes.

The same thing can be said another devs Airbus. It is currently v1.x with another update (possibly the last) due around the same time that they will be releasing the more advanced Airbus v2. Obviously the changes made to v2 were enough for the devs to decide it would be a different product to the first one, and so will need to be bought by anyone wanting it. So if I want v2, I'm going to have to buy it.

Then there's another devs 747 v1.5. It is not a free upgrade. Once again, the changes are enough to justify them selling it as a separate product, not giving it as a free upgrade. Once again, if I want this one too, I'll have to buy it.

The same thing happened with my buying AU YMML v1. Free upgrades to v1.5. Then I had t buy AU YMML v2.

Like it or not, we are going to have to live with devs decisions to do it that way. Or we just stop buying add-ons from that dev.

So as you can see. It's not just Captain Sim doing it. Other devs are doing it too.

I can think of another major developer, starts with M and ends in soft that NEVER fixes all bugs. They just issue a new version and end up eventually ending support for the older versions.
What are they? Too big to fail!!!.
So don't be hasty about criticising CS.

I agree w/ this above assessment.

My main concern w/ this otherwise fine cs757 was that I couldn't take this 757 above 25k w/o encountering un-predictable (and now well-documented) "rocking" issue. 22 months (plus the 4.5 upgrade) is a long period to let this continue un-resolved rendering this plane un-flyable for most of us. I clearly see there is a large fan base for this Boeing plane on this forum itself.

After 4.6, however, I wouldn't be "hasty about criticising CS" either (assuming CS is noting the further needed improvements). I can wait for v5.0...and their 737/777. Considering that the few good developers are probably not running  a very profitable business (for the amount of efforts they put in), it's in our interest they stay on to release new and authentic-feeling aircraft (once in a while) to keep the excitement of this great hobby.

With Microsoft Flight not sure how all this will change....

"...it has been said that it (=Microsoft Flight) is looking to appeal to flying enthusiasts with the realism and accuracy shown in the previous titles of Microsoft Flight Simulator, but also will include other types of gameplay that appeal more to novices..."

I guess we stay tuned.

Happy flying, meanwhile!
