Autopilot Master switches

Hey, would somebody please share some knowledge about the CMD autopilot profiles?

According to the manual:
-The first seems to be the standard...

-Pushing the second autopilot CMD switch when in the APP mode arms the autoland system. The second autopilot will engage below 1500 feet AGL. Arms the runway alignment, flare, and roll out modes.

-Pushing the third A/P Engage switch while in the APP mode separates the three electrical systems. The second and third autopilots engage when the aircraft is below 1500 feet.

I've seen variuos Boeing 757, 767 and 747 cockpit pictures during cruise with essentially LNAV, VNAV and  sometimes with a different CMD profile (left, center or right) engaged.
So, how is autopilot different while respective master switches engaged during the flight?

This is what I do.

Once above 200 feet AGL, the AP can be used. I usually press the second (center) CMD button, sometime the first (left) one. Either way, I will eventually switch to the center CMD during the flight.

I do not usually touch any of the CMD buttons again during the flight. Capturing the ILS and GS can all be done using a single CMD button. All I do is press LOC, then when the GS indicator is just above the center of the HSI, I press APP. When the LAND3 message appears, all three CMD buttons light up. I do not need to press them, it happens automatically.

Hope this helps.
