Well it was a pretty tough toss up between the 707 and the 727, but I'd had my eye on the 727 for about year or so.

I also have the FS Labs Concorde which uses the INS, although I've sorta skirted around its INS systems by adding the default GPS nav to it. sssh! Wink That aircraft is just one big monster of new things to learn!

But back on topic - did my first (attempted) flight last night from KCVG to KDTW (Cincinatti to Detroit) - about 2/3rds into the flight I got distracted and forgot to watch my speed. I ended up overspeeding the 727. DOH! Thank God for sims, we can always just reload our flight, and try again. Wink

Mr CoolP will hang you for that (the GPS thingy shhhhh)! But I hear you on the "new things to learn".

I have often had the "overspeed" warning come up on my 727 for that same reason. But I have never needed to restart a flight, even with realism maxed? Why did you? Or is that just something you do as a part of the realism?

Yea the GPS thing, just between you and me. haha  Tongue

Funny you mention the overspeed audible warning, I don't remember hearing it. I'm flying along, managing the flight (or at least thought I was), and the next thing I know, the sim stops and the next screen I see is the one telling me I was in overspeed and by default it started me back at KCVG.

For the short flight it was, it was fun being more busy in the cockpit, thats for sure! To be honest, these newer aircraft are fun to fly as well. But theres just not a whole lot to do during the cruise phase.  Cheesy In part, thats why I like to keep my flights short (an hour or just a tad less). Taxi, takeoffs, descent/approaches, and landings is where the action is.

I could easily be confused between the 727 and 707 (ouch). So I'll check on the audio warning.
Do you have failures ON or something else that stops the sim and resets the flight? I never get the flight reset.

I'm pretty sure I don't have failures on, but I will have to double check. As for not hearing an audible overspeed warning, do you think this could be part of the fact that 2.4 has the sound issues?

And out of curiousity, when you go into overspeed and don't make the necessary corrections, does FSX pop up the screen showing your aircraft with the green message at the top saying you've gone into overspeed? That is the screen I got and the only way out of it was to hit the ESC key which then took me back to KCVG. (of course you get the black screen where its loading, but then restarts your flight at the departure airport).

Not sure why yours crashes when you overspeed and mine doesn't. I started making realism changes, but nothing made it "crash", I did get the overspeed warning in the 727, it's a rapid continuous "click click click click click" sound. I even flew the 727 for quite some time with the ASI "off the clock" at FL190 without it breaking. Beats me. Huh

I did get something strange happen. I didn't see the red overspeed message in FSX. I think it has something to do with a setting in Orbx FSX Go, so I'll need to get that one turned back on. Undecided

Yea its no biggie really. As long as I keep an eye on my speed and don't let it stay into overspeed conditions for too long I'll be fine.

Just finished up the flight from KVCG to KDTW. Was gonna post a few shots, but I guess I have to have 10 posts or more. lol

Another thing I noticed is the ap pitch knob doesn't really do anything. I've tried it with the ELEV on/off, Altitude hold on/off and no go, ie I don't really notice any changes in pitch changes. Again, nothing game breaking on the 727 as I just hand fly it to my required alt, level off and hit the alt hold. Wink

Some changes were made to to the way the Captain Sim Forums can be used by new members. This was to stop the spammers that were posting in the forums. You'll eventually get past that. Soon I hope. Wink

Totally understandable! I run my own forum as well and keeping the spammers out can sometimes be a full time job. .  Roll Eyes

One of the most compelling reasons for me to switch to FSX has been this 727 since I saw some really good screenshots of it posted a couple years back. I owned and enjoyed the Legendary 727 for FS9 in it's day, it's still one of my favorite sim aircraft. Well anyway, I've been running FSX for a couple months now and just recently I've finally purchased the 727-100 + -200 expansion.

I've been through the forums the past few nights and got all the good tweaks going, one problem I had was I'm running a non-accel version of FSX so I had to get the updated autopilot to get it working. Sound issue, reload aircraft; works for me. Got rid of the "don't sink" warning, and watched a couple videos on starting from C&D. Thanks you guys in the forums for having all this stuff figured out and making the info available and easy to find.

So, now after having her in my hangar for a few days, getting the bugs worked out, and learning to fly her, I finally loaded up the C&D @ KSEA flight last night and did the most wonderful, completely hand flown, by-the-numbers (sort of) flight to KGEG that's ever been done in the history of FS! This thing is awesome!

Since then I added a United 80s -200 livery I had for the FS9 version and did a nostalgic flight from KGEG to KDEN which is a flight I did often in the real world (as a passenger) back in the 80's. Well actually we landed at Stapleton back then and sadly Stapleton is a suburb now, but still pretty cool. (Oh how I wish someone would do a 9-Dragons style Stapleton for FSX)

Next I think I'll find a Western livery and hit Salt Lake City on the way to somewhere, maybe Portland. From there I think I'll work my way toward Ketchikan...

Sounds like you are having fun Mr Robinson! Way to go! Yep love the 727 although I am hangered at the moment attempting to do a repaint of the 100 in the original Trans Australian Airlines colours (TAA) or white tail livery, so far not so good! And alas I must confess flying the venerable C-47 at DC-3 Airways on the latest WR2011 which is great fun. Maybe we could come up with something similar for the 727 here at Capt Sim! Cool

im still eating dust in Australia regional airports. B727-100 is pretty solid bird. flies like on rails, lands almost everywhere. But i gotta calculate really good how much cargo i can lift from short regional runways. and try not to get lost without GPS Smiley thats a real fun.

Also i modified some checklists. I added this lines. WORKS FOR ME Smiley
Receiving aircraft: stereo.....on
Before takeoff: stereo....off
After takeoff : stereo......on
Landing: stereo......off
After landing: stereo......on

Yep best of the 727's is the 100. Find the 200 a little pitchy and twitchy by comparison. Funny but stretched version aeroplanes with a little extra oomph in the power department and longer fueselages are never as nice as the originals or really perform as well. Compare the 737-800 to the 737-200 worlds apart you could get a 737-200 into a 4000 ft dirt strip and they built them with rock/dirt deflectors on the undercarriage to stop stone ingestion into the engines. That would be a good mod for Capt Sim to come up with, once they get the VC sorted and installed.

If you want to try a nice run with a short field in and out try Darwin to Dili in Timor. 727 100 can handle it load permitting, a nice challenge for 727 drivers once you look at the runway available and temps (high 20's to 30 C), you need minimum fuel as well which also keeps you on your toes re fuel burn.

I did this flight about a week ago, it was fun. Unfortunately, there was nowhere to really park my 727-100F, so I just chose a medium or large parking ramp. I had to be almost empty to takeoff on that short runway!

Out of curiosity, do you use a Timor/Dili 3rd party add-on? Or just the default FSX Timor/Dili?
