Where is everyone flying the 727?

We did a thread like this a while back.  I thought I'd do another one to see what people are doing with this awesome plane.

Since getting some great help in my "How to navigate using airways" thread, I've been flying some fun routes from the midwest to the east coast.

I've been doing Chicago to JFK in American Airlines and United liveries.

Also, Indianapolis to Newark Liberty in Continental liveries.

I've  been taking the -100 in TWA colors between Champaign, Illinois (KCMI) and Washington Dulles, too  This one in real life was flown with an Ozark Airlines DC-9, not a 727, but I like this route and the 727 is my favorite plane, so why not?

I like these types of distances.  Just enough to get to play airway navigation, but not so long as to take up the entire afternoon with just one flight.

So what's everyone else been doing lately?

I've left the 727 a bit behind since the 707 arrived.  Undecided
Doing some routes around Cuba in the cargo role.

Same here. I'm flying the 707 much more than the 727.

I like doing long haul flights and because the 707 has a longer range I fly it more often.

However! When I do fly the 727, I generally do small trips between 1 and 2 hours, rarely longer than that. I have done 4 hour flights in the 727 before, but not very many.

But where are you flying, Mark? Don't avoid that answer, you can be honest to us.  Smiley

Oh alright then. Embarrassed

Mostly around Australia and New Zealand in the 727. If I get up to Northern Australia (Darwin, Cairns or Townsville), I might head for Indonesia or other close destinations in the South Pacific (Fiji, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu to name a few). Sometimes I start in the USA and fly around there.

I need to venture over to Europe more often because I rarely get there. And if I do, it's mostly England, France and Holand. Sad

My 727 flights generally occur on shorter routes in the Western United States because the scenery is spectacular. Going from KSFO to KLAX you have ocean on one side of the plane and beautiful landscape on the other side. Nevada deserts are nice as are flights into Denver over the Rockies. Any approach into Salt Lake city brings up beautiful scenery as well. The FSX detailed scenery around the Seattle area makes for great flying. I think MS focused on the Seattle area a bit more extensively in development being this is their home turf.

I fly in Australia, New Zealand, indonesia and so on. Started there just because my PC is too weak for USA and Europe, but i got used to that places. Will upgrade it soon. and buy ORBX Australia Smiley

727 - the only jet i fly now. last long flight was Perth - Port morseby. took a loong time, and i burned almost all fuel. Unrealistic route for 727-100 i think Smiley But im just having fun.

I want to try VATSIM. If i'll do that - then i'll be flying some Grumman Goose or DC3 in New Zealand at first Smiley

That sounds good, windplayer.
You know what, sadly there isn't much Russian scenery in the sim for people wanting to fly there without looking at default FSX all the time. I've bought some landclass scenery lately and looked for all the freeware around, so one gets at least a bit of coverage there.

That's the most important thing, isn't it?  Smiley By the way, you can fly VATSIM with any plane you like and if you go to Australia or NZ, the controllers there will be among the most friendly ones as far as my experience goes.

Hey, Mark, concerning the Netherlands, are you using that great NL2000 freeware? That stuff is a blast and big fun to explore. http://www.nl-2000.com/nuke/

I have taken the 727 everywhere, well nearly. After spending some time getting used to the bird using Tamworth NSW as the training base I then did a re-run of the original TAA delivery flight from Seattle across the Pacific to OZ via many islands. I have done across OZ to NZ and back, OZ to Guam and then on to Japan and then spent about a month or so of simming time trying the old JAL 727 domestic schedule and ports. Mt Fuji looked great as does the Pacific. Currently I am seeing how the 727 200 with the flight dynamic/power mods goes up and down the east coast of OZ. I think i have done most ports serviced in OZ by TAA and Ansett when they operated the 727. Ah and yes a run into Timor from Darwin was interesting challenge given the short runway at Dili and the fuel and load limitations.

I use REX weather and capture several screenshots on all my sim flights on account of the fanstastic skies and textures it produces I will post a few when I get time and reduce them to the 200KB limit for attached file types.

Oh yes, I forgot to mention Alaska. Some of the best default scenery FSX has. Try Wrangell to Ketchikan ( Alaska). There a many other very realistic 727 routes within the state of Alaska as well.

That cool. im doing something like this but from NZ to USA Smiley Problem is that im using random systems failure setting in FSX. And it allow to set max fail time to 600 minutes. So there is a huge chance to end long flight with some systems out Sad  I dont know is there a way to set random time failure more then 6 hrs. I mean if i set it to 60 hrs, then chances to experience some inflight problems reduce, and that would be more fun to fly long flights, coz u will need to monitor systems, not knowing which one will fail. Now if fly 4-5 hrs, i almost know what to expect Sad

I'm mainly flying from Bordeaux around Europe using the Air France bird, mainly to Larnaca, fly there at least 3 times a week, and on the odd occasion I fly to either Wellington or Honolulu for the fun of flying the 727 Smiley

My last leg with the 727-200 was YMML - YPPH, or Melbourne - Perth. Love flying in Australia with oldies, don't ask me why  Cheesy

I've only done one, 'test', flight with the 721, around Denver, Colorado since just purchasing it the other night. However, most of my flights (that will be including the 721) are roughly 1 hour flights anywhere in the states.

Thats also where all my scenery addons are to. Wink

I'm sure the 707 will be my next purchase down the road and I'll have to just dive in feet first learning the civa-INS.

I'm sure you will love the 707. As for the CIVA-INS, I jumped in and started to learn it (still learning here). My next step is to change it to dual INS.

Sorry about going off-topic. Lips Sealed
