Ace not working
May 31st, 2011 at 5:19pm
Print Post
Just reloaded C 130 on my new computer and can't get my Ace program to work. When I open it it gives me a message that my MSFS path for my flight files is not correct. I then get the screen that allows me to put in the path. I do that and the the save button does not do anything. Probably something simple but need help. Thanks.

Are you a W7 user? If so, did you install csp131_1300.exe "as administrator", using the mouse's right button to open it?

Did you check if the paths, both to FSX as to your FSX flight files (*.FLT) at ACE TOOL's tab are correct?

Yes I am using W7. I have opened Ace with "Run as Adminstrator" and it opens a box in the tools to change the paths. I put the the path for the flights but the save button does not work.

Check-in to Your Profile > Select product > Customer Support > Search KB or Submit New Ticket and enter 700 in option C.
You will get the following KB Faq and click on the link to the FSX/FS9 Registry Repair Tool. I did not provide the link in my reply.

Q: How to fix your flight simulators registry path in FSX/FS9 (avoid "Your Path for Flight Simulator Files is Not Correct" message in TCE/ACE) (by JB)

A:
Use this free FSX/FS9 Registry Repair Tool (36KB)

From: General / Tips and Tricks (QID 700)

See if that helps.

I just tried it and no joy. The error message I get is "Path for your MSFS flight files (*.FLT) is not correct. Please Select path for your MSFS flight files and save it." I then get the box to do that and I manually put in the path and the save button does not work. Thanks again for your replies.

A really strange issue.

1) I suggest you to uninstall the add-on and clean all register data:

Uninstall > Delete all CS C-130's register data [start > regedit.exe (as administrator) > Captain Sim > C130XPRO > delete all files (Standard/FLT/RegCode/RegName/support/tpl/version)] > Restart PC > Reinstall.

2) Or maybe your installer is corrupt. Download it again and try installing from the new installer:

Check-in to Your Profile > Select product > Extended Download Service > Get New Links.

Hope this help,

Pinatubo.

Try doing this:

Q: How to reinstall a product?

A:
Quite a number of "issues" are caused by using of outdated version of a product. Prior to submitting a support request please make sure you have current version of a product.

To reinstall a product please perform the following steps in exact order:
Uninstall the product:
1. Go to Start> Programs> Captain Sim.
2. Select the product you wish to uninstall.
3. Click uninstall icon.

Install the product:
4. Make sure you have the latest version of the product
5. Run the product installer (the .exe file) and follow the prompts.
Please note: valid Order Number and Internet connection are required for installation/activation.

Please make sure you run the installation file as Administrator and that "User Account Control" is disabled (for Vista and Windows7), it limits admins ability to install programs.

If regular reinstall did not fix your problem you can try to clean registry.
Please be careful and do it on your own risk!

How to clean Registry:
1. Uninstall the product
2. Go to Start> Run. Type: regedit, click OK.
3. Find the product entry in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CaptainSim\ (please note, for Windows 64bit versions it is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\CaptainSim\)
For example: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CaptainSim\C130XPRO
Make sure you are going to delete correct folder!
4. Delete the product entry folder.
5. Restart your computer.
6. Install the product.

If you stil have issues and the above does not help we must admit your system configuration is a rare exception. You can try to install the product on another system or request a refund.

From: General / Download/Installation (QID 685)

Look at the following image so you can see what you need to delete from the windows registry.

I use Windows 7 64bit, so mine is stored in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\CaptainSim\. If you are using a 32bit version of Windows, then yours will be in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CaptainSim\.

I can't quite follow you on that last reply. But ACE needs to be looking for where FSX is installed on the computer. I don't think you would install it in the Documents\Flight Simulator X files folder.

The default location is C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X, as far as I know. My guess is that you are not pointing the C-130 ACE to the correct folder.

Documents\Flight Simulator X files is the location of saved Flights, Flight Plans etc.

The location of the *.FLT files on Windows 7 system should be C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\Documents\Flight Simulator X Files

That's where I find mine and I'm using Win7 64bit too.

It sounds to me like the changes you are making in ACE and trying to save, are not being saved because you are not running the ACE program as an administrator. You must Right Mouse Click on the ACE and select "Run as administrator" from the list. That should then allow ACE save the changes you made.

One other thing. I don't understand this: i find the three granby files. What are the granby files? Sorry to have to ask. Sad

The only thing I can think of is to make sure that in the Windows registry (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\CaptainSim\C130XPRO), that the entry for FLT files is pointing to the correct location (see attached image).

That really sounds to me like the online activation of the installer has failed. I suggest that you Check-in to Your Profile > Select product > Extended Download Service > Get New Links and download a new installer. Delete the entry in the Windows registry, then reinstall the C130. Hopefully the online activation will perform as it should this time.

this time capt sim disappeared from the registry
If you removed the entry in the Windows registry before installing the C-130, you should be asked Activate it again when you reinstall it. Once you do that, it will add the info back into the Windows registry. Because of your problems, you should not be using restore to get them back. Re-activating the installer should get them back.

still no flt files in the registry....at least i got my c-130 back.....any way to install flt files in registry
You did a restore which gave you back what you had. Do not do a restore. Remove the C-130 entry from the registry, then when you reinstall the C-130, you will need to re-activate the installer which should put the C-130 back into the registry (as I said above).

too bad capt sim has to make things so difficult
It isn't difficult if you install it correctly. I have added quit a few addition liveries to my C-130 installation, with any problems.

Your Captain Sim C-130 installation is faulty. Once you fix it up and everything is as it should be, the rest should be easy.

For the FLT files: In the FSX\Captain_Sim\130\flights folder you will find three flights (.FLT) that need to be copied from there to your Documents\Flight Simulator X Files folder.

Do the following:

1) Uninstall the Captain Sim C-130
2) Remove the C130XPRO entry from the Windows registry
3) Reinstall the Captain Sim C-130

You must do step #2 before you do step #3. Do NOT do a restore on your computer, between step #2 and #3. The, when you reach #3, the installer should ask you to Activate Online because you have deleted the entry in the registry.
If you don't remove the registry entry for the Captain Sim C-130, the installer believes it is already activated and won't ask you to activate it again.

Hope this helps.

I only have that in my registry details for the C130XPRO, none of my others have it.

Yours is a unique situation. I have not seen anyone else not being able to fix it. You could try ADDING the info manually into the registry, that might help.

I can think of a couple of ways, but I think this could be the best way:

Run regedit. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\CaptainSim\C130XPRO BACK IT UP! Do this by right mouse click on the C130XPRO folder and then select Export from the list. Save it to your desktop and give it a name that you will know what it is and is for!

Now follow the instructions in these images:

Once done, you can exit regedit.

Hope this helps.

well......something sure has worked....got the c-130 cfg editor on screen.....i select fleet and select variation comes up....i select that, and D:\fsx\Captain_Sim\130\variants\ pops up....after that nothing else seems to function, or i don't know how to add variants.....?...not back to square one, but doesn't seem too far from it  Smiley
there are three headings--- fleet preflight and tools...but...these headings are overlapped with the same headings in grey and not in the same location...and it's the grey ones that respond to a limited degree....whew!  too bad the people who designed the product couln't pipe in...

A mystery. Uninstall it, again, go to the registry and remove the C130XPRO entry. Do another clean install that requires Activation (you might have exceeded the Activations, submit a support ticket to get it reset if it has).

With ACE. I think you have been doing it wrong. Here is a tutorial on how to add a new livery using ACE:

1) Once the ACE opens, select FLEET
2) It should already be on the ADD NEW page.
3) Click on the Select Variation button.

4) A new pain opens
5) Highlight the livery you want to add - place all the texture files (dds and/or bmp), the livery.cfg and the thumbnail in it's own folder inside the FSX\Captain_Sim\130\variants folder
6) Click on OK

7) A thumbnail is displayed (if there was one in the the folder) and you now click on the Add Variation button

8) A new box pops up informing you that the new variant (livery) will be added. Click OK or Cancel to continue

9) In the Description you now see that there is confirmation that the livery was added.

The C130 ACE adds the new variation as Lockheed Martin. The default C130's are Lockheed. You can change it in the aircraft.cfg for that particular model. I hope they fix it in a patch (I might have to add it to the It would be nice if... forum Wink).

Hope this helps.

wow..you're still here....i kept installing the c130 which i had already downloaded and it didn't work
in ace, those grey areas ..preflight - tools, were off to the right, not where they were supposed to be, so there was no chance of using it the right way, cause it wasn't functioning..in other words, when i added flt to registration, it didn't quite work....not sure if i'm clear enough in describing this...thanks, vic
i don't know how to upload images to forum or i would show you what my ace looks like...hmm that doesn't sound right Shocked

hey wait a minute! instead of opening the c130 i already had in my computer, i re-downloaded a new one, and voila, it's working now i didn't know it had to be downloaded fresh each time...wow....thank you for that much!
but still no flt in reg..and in ace, the titles are off center and still incorrect path, so i can't follow your latest advise.....but at least i got the plane back and that's great! do you still think ace can be repaired?....

There are two ways to put a picture in the forum. The first way is to browse to a file on your computer and upload it to the Captain Sim server (click the BROWSE just below the "smilies" on the POST REPLY page). The image can't be larger than 200KB (KiloBytes).
The second way is to go to imageshack or photobucket or a similar site that allows you to upload and store images. Once it is uploaded there you add it like this:
Code
Select All
 [img]http://www.captainsim.com/img/news/731_preview4.jpg[/img]

and the result will look like this:

hey wait a minute! instead of opening the c130 i already had in my computer, i re-downloaded a new one, and voila, it's working now i didn't know it had to be downloaded fresh each time
You don't. I have installed my C130 X-perience many time. I have only ever downloaded it once.

ok it works ...picture didn't show on "preview" so i thought it didn't work....
so here you can see my, not so well, ace config...you can see the missplaced grey sections ...because browse didn't work, i had to write in the path by hand.....which still didn't work...and when i open ace again, still says path is incorrect, and the path i entered disappears.....boy you've got patience! ....

when my c130 stopped working i tried to re-load it 3 times....only when i re-downloaded it, it worked ....strange.......

You can't preview a picture if you want to upload it. If you preview you post/reply, then you will have to browse for the image again. I have posted several replies and forgot to browse for the image I want them to see. I prefer storing them on photobucket. Wink

boy you've got patience!
I'm just trying to help you to get it working like it should.

What screen resolution do you use, maybe that's why they are not aligned? Maybe the correct path really is there, but you can't see it because of the misalignment?

Don't worry. I'm not tearing my hair out, but I am scratching my head as to why this is happening.

I have seen this type of thing before (just not with Captain Sim products). I'm trying very hard to remember what the cause was. If I can remember that, we might finally sort this out.  Undecided

WOW! That is beautiful! A close friend of mine bought and built a large model (not remote controlled) of the HMS Endeavour abou 20+ years ago. I haven't seen it in a long time, so I'll have to find out if he still has it...I'd bet that his father is looking after it for him!

Nothing wrong with a little sharing.

EUREKA! I pretty sure I have found a solution to your problem. I'm quite confidant too. Take a look at my attached image. It looks very similar to your attached image in this reply: http://www.captainsim.org/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1306862370/43#43. Here is how I did it:

Control Panel > Display > Change Font size to Medium - 125% OR Larger - 150%

If you have done that, the ACE buttons and tabs do not line up correctly. Change it to Smaller - 100% (default) and see if that makes the ACE look like it should.

Sorry Vic. But it just came to me about half an hour ago and I had to change my settings to make sure I was right. Smiley

That's really strange. Maybe if you did the complete uninstall, while using smaller fonts, it will all work as it should. I really can't think of anything else to do. Sad
