1.3 update and some questions
Apr 6th, 2011 at 2:20pm
Print Post
Hi!
I just updated my 707 to version 1.3 recently after a longer pause with flight simming.
I also bought the cargo expansion pack for it and gave it a try today.
I noticed that the INS was already present in the VC, but I couldn“t turn it on? Is there something I“m missing?  Embarrassed
Therefore, I navigated by using VORs. The tuning worked flawlessly and the HSI indicated correctly, but the A/P had a hard time following the VOR on a certain radial.
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks in advance & greets,
Michael

Hi Michael

You need to back up the original panel.cfg in the [FSX root]\SimObjects\CS_B707-300\panel folder. Then rename the CIVA_panel.cfg to panel.cfg and then you can use the CIVA INS in the 707.

Hope this helps

Thanks a lot!
That surely helps.
Any ideas concerning the autopilot?

You have to switch the DOPPLER-INS SWITCH ('707 Captain' FLIGHT MANUAL Part II - Aircraft and Systems (cs707_manual2.pdf) page 22) to INS, then the AP will follow the INS course once you turn the Mode Selector Switch to NAV. Make sure to open the SimIcons Panel using SHIFT+1 to initialize the CIVA INS after the aircraft first loads in FSX, or it won't work.

CoolP has a Topic on dual INS, and a whole bunch of other info, here: http://www.captainsim.org/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1285100008. I highly recommend that you read through it for help with the CIVA INS. Wink

Hi Mark!
Thanks again. But I think you got me a little wrong.
I mean the A/P behaviour when it is in VOR/LOC mode.
It is struggling to follow a radial of a VOR, and in Auto G/S-mode it also "swinging" a lot while following the localiser.
Is this a confirmed bug or is it only my problem?
Thanks in advance & greets,
Michael

Sorry about that.

I mean the A/P behaviour when it is in VOR/LOC mode.
It is struggling to follow a radial of a VOR,

I have not flown a VOR to VOR flight so I would have to see if mine does it.

in Auto G/S-mode it also "swinging" a lot while following the localiser.
I've never had that happen. I have no problems (no swinging) with tracking the LOC and GS nicely on approach. It could be that you are too heavy and/or too slow on approach.

Hi Mark!
I double checked the circumstances on the appraoch, and the weight and the speeds were definitely within the limits, but the swinging appears.

Hi.

The 707 is not good at following the VOR radial! She steers left and right of the radial and it gets worse as I get closer to the VOR. Sad
Using AUTO GS, once the aircraft settles on the LOC and GS, it comes in smooth and straight, no swinging/swaying. I only need to monitor the throttles. She will rock a little left and right if I have a decent crosswind though.

Thanks for the fast reply.
So I am not the only one with the VOR-problem...
That“s definitely something that should be fixed in a future update!
Concerning the rocking on approach, I will pay attention to the wind conditions on my next flight.
Greets,
Michael

The S turns is an actual problem of the 707 and early autopilots. So it is not an error of Captain sim.

Hmmm, but I have doubts that the 707 wasn't able to fly a radial of a VOR correctly...
