CDU Deleting waypoints

Strange thing happened to me while taking off from KMIA the ATC routed me in a way that missed my first waypoint. The CDU wanted to take me back to catch the first waypoint before continuing on to KATL. Is there a way to delete a waypoint once the flight has started? I checked the manual but didn't see anything on the subject.

You have to delete waypoints in the "legs" section of the fmc.  Click the DEL key followed by the LSK next to the waypoint you wish to delete.

You can't delete a waypoint from your active leg. But you can copy the route into the 2nd route and modify it there and then activate the 2nd route.

Thanks for the help everyone ... just a note to let you know what's happening. When using FSX planner to choose a High Airways route from KMIA to KATL, it assigns the first waypoint almost right at the approach to rw08R. If you take off at 08R you have to do a 180 to come back and get it, then head north. The ATC doesn't route you that way and problems occur. Now I've learned to eyeball the routes prior to accepting them and make corrections in the FSX planner before loading into the CDU. Getting older and hopefully wiser everyday.

Thats right. The FSX flight planner dont know anything about SID and STAR and the abilities of your FMS. More realistic routes are e.g. on http://www.ivao.de/index.php?id=516 or similar pages.

Hi Dennis - The FSX flight planner is alright but there are better alternatives. This is a route for a Delta Airlines flight from KMIA to KATL today: HEDLY1 HEDLY J53 ORL J81 VQQ CANUK7 You can find flights for any airport in North America, just type the ICAO code in the box in the lower left corner and you will see arrivals and departures: http://flightaware.com

You may have to update to the current AIRAC cycle 0910 for the CS757at: http://planepath.com/html/dafif.html You will find the Captain Sim LSK at the bottom. It is a simple .exe that will update your navdata and it is free.

Interestingly I found the FAA Terminal Procedures site: http://naco.faa.gov/digital_tpp.asp?ver=0910&eff=09-24-2009&end=10-22-2009 All you need to do again is type in the airport identifier and select the ICAO radial and it will present you with PDF's.

Lastly I have used a great site in the past where you can search for and generate flight plans: http://simroutes.com/

Have a look and have fun.

Regards,
Robert
