Hello, just thought I would mention here that I posted a lengthy user review that has been well received so far.  You can find it in (surprisingly enough) the User Review section.

I would be happy to address any inaccuracies anyone catches.

Thanks Tim. A very informative review. You pointed out a few features - like the animated uniform coat - that I'd not noticed before.

Thanx Tim, took the plunge and we shall see how it compares to my another company and another company heavies.

NOW:  you indicated the lack of tutorials, are there any beyond utube ones, IE documented ones?

Every review dings CS on the lack of a tutorial, and has since the blocks first started coming out.  Other than what's available on this forum, I don't know of any.  There are Bob Markey's videos for startup, an FMC tutorial from a previous version that still works, and an autoland tutorial that is good.

As far as a whole flight from beginning to end, not that I'm aware of.

CS is not the only company to wait for a fan to create a tutorial, though.  Two recent payware purchases have had fanware tutorials, and they are both excellent.

On the plus side, the 757 has a very easy-going personality and no gotchas.  If you have experience with any other Boeing payware, you shouldn't have any trouble at all.  Also, the manuals are excellent.  The operations manual is worth printing out because it has everything step-by-step.

If you have any questions, just ask.  I'm sure somebody will be able to help.  Once you get the performance issue managed (which is not hard on a good computer) this is a very enjoyable and versatile airplane.

HI Tim,

I have had the another company 763 and also the another company 744 and MD11 for years so, ironically, its tutorials and even the AOA 767 video, are all apllicable. I myself will have no trouble, just wondering.

BUT, on the issue of FPS, I have endlessly tweaked FSX and have notce a ~15-20 % FPS drop with this product.

That is too much of a drop. I lose very few frames. I have a Dell XPS430 Core 2 Quad 2.5 with 6 GB RAM.

I use Alacrity to unburden my system before loading FSX, and control my Nvixia GeForce 9800 GT with nHancer.

I find that traffic and airport vehicles are the big frame chompers.

One thing I've found is that unlimited framerates give much better performance for me with this add-on. Also, I always start with the default Cessna, turn everything off including the key and the switch at the gate.  I use the "High" scenery settings, with no traffic other than 60% X Traffic and usually Medium Airport Vehicles.

I can get 8 fps if I slap 'er down at O'Hare's active with traffic and airport vehicles. If I'm careful, I can get well over twice that, and in the 30s after takeoff.

There is no doubt premium visuals are going to require a coolness tax in fps, but it is very small for me. What kind of system are you running?

What else do you have running? How are your FPS in other circumstances?

Intel Dual 6850 o/c to 3.5, 4 GB RAM 800 speed, GPU is a 9800GTX.

Running ASA, UTX2, various scenery add-ons that should not affect FPS.

NO matter, the issue is that all things being equal, the FPS dropped from around ~15-20 on the ramp to about 10-15.

Tim,

Your review is quite good as is your attitude as reflected in posts elswhere in that forum. May I suggest that you post a link here to it? It took me quite a while to find. It is actually not in "User Reviews" but in AVSIM>Hanger>Reader's Product Reviews.

Thanks,

Bill Barrette

10-15 on the ramp is close to not being bad at all. A smooth 15 on the ramp I could live with. My 18-20 on the ramp could be a reflection of a lot of different things. Have you tried loading the default Cessna first? What happens if you dial down all traffic to zero? Unlimited frames? You say add-ons shouldn't effect fps. Seems to me they might; I tend not to use global add-ons for that reason, though.

I am good even at FlyTampa's Kai Tak, though. Maybe the Core 2 Quad is making a difference.

Are you running Alacrity to free up resources when you start FS? I am also happy with nHancer handing over control of graphics to my video card, rather than letting FSX do it. Where are your sliders? Have you tried after a fresh boot?

This is a visually complex aircraft, and it might take some experimentation to see what you want. Is it choppy, or are you just going by the numbers? Sounds like you probably know the usual stuff.

I had to work a bit to get frame rates where I wanted them. There is no way you are going to get frames up there with a certain new T-tailed narrow-bodied twin engined airplane which makes signficiant compromises to get keep frames up. On the other hand, I do get good frames on my system, and I am not much of a tweaker.

Also, what airport are we talking about?

For reasons that will become clear in the coming weeks, I would rather wait  Wink

Quite the thread derail I started but anyhow... Grin

I use nHancer, my "base" airport is CYYZ.

I have tried alacrity but have dubious success with it on Vista 64 bit.

I think what I will do is play with the UTX2 traffic settings and the autogen etc.

You cannot land a heavy jet by hand with anything less than ~20 FPS.

20 FPS on final should not be a problem.

I agree in most cases, but when it drops below that it's a big problem. Now, having said that, UTX2 has a neat feature whereby a keystroke will shut off and on the AI traffic. Sstill playing with that though since I just bought UTX2 a few days ago.
