No ADF, NAV (VHF), COM or AP

Hi all;

(Spec: FSX-SP2, XP-SP3, C130X 1.3)

When I start a flight with the C-130 everything works ok. Then, after about 15 to 20 mins, the VHF equpment (NAV, COM, ADF) and AP stops working.

- The COM is on (current freq show in display) but I can't contact ATC.
- Not possible to change frequency on the NAV's or ADF.
- AP dead, can't even use power button.

When i click buttons in the panels (VHF/AP) the sound works but no reaction on the instruments.

I start a flight without a flightplan, take off, get to a decent height and then just fly straight ahead for about 15 to 20 minutes before the equipment fails. The first 10 mins of the flight everything (NAV, COM, AP) works as expected, then it suddenly stop working.

Any ideas ?

I have the same problem tiltman. No reaction from CS. Bad luck for us
Don't hesitate to contact me via PM.Maybe we can find together something wrong.

To add I have FSUIPC registered and infinite battery set.So this problem should never happen (well in theory)

Yes, I did make a KB of this and CS staff just returned me a link on how to reinstall... but I won't. The thing is I'm going to set up a new PC soon so I've decided not to put too much work into the current installation.

Anyway, to "fix it" I just save the flight then load it again. Not a solution but a workaround for me until the new rig is up.

I was looking around in the aircraft.cfg file. to see if maybe when i added a new paint job it messed something up. As far as i could tell nothing wrong. But I did notice something. Our problem isn't an avionics bus power problem. The AP isn't even on the avionics bus. I'm wondering if this is a problem between CS and FSUIPC? I'm going to try an earler version of FSUIPC tonight.

Can't see it being FSUIPC4 as I have this installed and updated about 4 times now with no issues as you describe. On completing startup of all engines, have you flicked all the relevant switches to where they should be??

James.

Yes all the switches are where they should be. And it's just the Com, ADF, NAV, AP, and GPS are loosing power. Every other system that needs power is continuing to stay on. And as i was saying the AP isn't even on the Avionics bus.

Don't know if you guy's have tried this but it's worth the shot at it.

Start FSX and then select the Cessna 172, select the airport and parking position you would have selected for your c-130. Set time and season etcetera and continue to load FSX.

Once up and running turn off the engine and all lights and avionics switch. Ensure that it is a complete cold and dark cockpit.

Select your c-130 and then save the flight. Now go through your startup sequence and see if you are able to complete the flight without loosing any power to any of your systems.

Regards,

James.

I ran into this too - it seems that the avionics will work for about the first five minutes - and then they just fade out even if there is external power.  I *think* this may have something to do with the "infinite battery life" option setting but don't quote me on that.

The only thing I can do is map a button or key to "Avionics on/off."  Once the engines are started and generators going, I flip the switch and everything works.  (An easy way to check this is to bring up the GPS - if it is "black" then you have no avionics).

No matter how hard I've tried, I cannot keep the avionics on on external power/battery alone for very long without losing them.  They won't stay on unless the generators are running.

This is probably something buried deep in the arcana of the FSX SDK - ya just have to work around it.

I had the same problem 'til I searched the dim recesses of my brain from about 40 years ago.  Is the AC Essential bus powered (upper Engineer's panel) and the Flight Director's switch set to normal (AP Panel)?  That should at least solve the power to AP issue.

Radios working, then not

Hello, I successfully started up my aircraft, and the radios wouldn't work.  The COM master switches were on, I could see ter frequencies they were dialed to, but I could not change the frequencies or contact atc.

Reading another post in the forum, I assigned a key combination (ctrl-shift-a) to the avionics master switch.  When I did this my radios started working again.  However, about 5 minutes later just before I took the runway for take-off, they stopped working again.  Same as before, the master switches are on, I can see the frequencies, but I can't contact ATC or change the frequencies.

Before starting the aircraft, I loaded the default C172 and turned off engines, avionics, and battery, then loaded the C-130.

Yesterday, I did a flight where I used ctrl-e to start the engines and didn't have the radio problem.

Thanks for any help.

Two things that can fix this.

First. Create a default C172 flight with everything off except the Avionics Master switch.

Second. Create a keyboard combination for the Avionics Master switch. I use the combination CTRL+SHIFT+A for mine.

I have actually done both of these. But on some planes I want the Avionics Master switch left off.

Also. Pressing CTRL+E (default engine start) also turns on the Avionics Master switch which is why you didn't have the problem when you started it that way.

Hope this helps.

Try assigning a key stroke to the "Avionics Master".  You can toggle the power to the Avionics.  When it drops out, toggle on.  Then they should stay on.

I have the same problem but in my case it is only caused when I open a window that causes the screen to re-write. the culprits seem to be any settings window, open the map, aircraft fuel and payload.

I can restore power to avionics using the avionics master key (Ctrl+Shift+A) which I have assigned.

The same problem/solution also applies for the B727.

Same problem here. This plane has pretty much sat in my hangar since buying it a few years ago.  Reason has been reliability, namely it won't start, but then it will start but there is no way to tell why it did.  Would be good if CS had an answer on this as I am far from alone - i.e. we DO all follow the manual and the tutorials (which are very clearly written) but cold & dark starts continue to be hit or miss.

Got her out yesterday for the first time in ages and managed this time to start her up (odd numbered day of the week perhaps) took off and then had these same avionics failures.  I already have the default C172 with everything off except for avionics set as the default flight and also have a key mapped for master avionics.

Why can't CS even post here to say they have these tickets and are working on it?  With so many other payware aircraft these things often get quickly gang tackled by this kind of group discussion on a forum by the devs and customers together.  Results in nice warm fuzzy feelings all around and one would expect customer goodwill and future sales.  Don't get me wrong, I have the Herc, the 727 and 707 and think they are amongst the best payware, inside and out.  It's just that there is a kind of odd robotic like manner here, not wanting to communicate easily like normal adults do and should. May be a continuing case of "not knowing what I am doing right",  but have had more left seat time in the CS-130 in the last few days than at any time since buying her three years ago. Seems to be working much better.   Even got her started 100% from the VC which was great.  Terrrific aircraft.
