C-130 performance

need some suggestions!

At the risk of beating a dead horse, I re-installed my C-130 X into my
FSX and it's no better on framerates, not that it should have been I was wishful.

What can I do to achieve better than 8.0 - 9.5 fps in vc maybe 10 at
altitude w/clear skys and 12-14 in exterior view.
This is over the Arizona desert mid-day zero AI traffic etc.

I read several posts with  users with similar systems to mine and they claim to be getting 20 fps ??

I really want to get some use out of the herc, but it is like a slow motion film

Here are some specs:

Core 2 duo 6600 , Nvidia 8800GTX OC
FSX (SP-1) with UTX/GEX/SceneryTech LC
4 gigs Ram
single use PC no Network
samsung 25" WS monitor 1900x1200
Windows XP media version (SP2)

FSX:  autogen= sparse
no AI traffiic
water at 2x1
clouds medium density
radius medium
Frames locked at 28 fps ,runs better for me than unlimited

AA set on Video card at 8
in game trilinear

not really pushing the sim...

If I need to shut off start up programs or sevices what are some that have a pronounce effect on sim performance and can be safely
turned off?

My AV is AVG 8.0 and many features are turned off

Is a quad core over 3.0 ghz the only answer?

suggestions needed

Thanks so much

Doug

Thanks for your comment Richard.

I think I have my Nvidia 88ooGTX dialed in after some trial and error
and reading everthing I could find on the net about video card performance.

It just is hard to accept frame rates of 7- 8 in the VC or 11 -13 in the Exterior view when I know my system is not the worst thing out there and others bost of 20 with similar specs.  What I hope someone will weigh in on is if there is something i can do to run the C-130 better without shuting everything else off in the sim. The 2d panel is horrible and on a WS monitor its worse.

I shur off the HUD in the VC in  my Iris F-15 and the frame rate doubled! I'm lookmfor some suggestions like that.

Someone please give my C-130 some go juice!!  lol

Thanks  Doug

I have a similiar computer to yours and I get 30-40 FPS consistantly.
As mentioned, I highly recommend Nhancer to properly set your video
card.(I have the same card as you)

Here is a link to the best information you're going to find.
http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1208959973

Read all of it, but I think you'll know what to skip.  Some of the stuff
is over my head and I was afraid to try it, so I skipped it.

Skip the part where he says you have to do everything exactly as he says.
BS, I think he's over selling that defrag program.

Skip the O&O Defrag stuff, the windows Defragger works just fine.
Defragging alone will give you a tremendous boost in FPS.

Skip down to Drivers, Nhancer and setting them up.
Start paying attention and reading there, especially
the Nhancer settings.

There are additional links at that website that will show
you how to properly set up Nhancer.
This one is critical: http://www.simforums.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=27540&PID=156769#156769

Use this checklist to install the current driver for your video card.
http://forums.flightsim.com/vbfs/showthread.php?t=160827

Install Nhancer and set it up according to his recommendations.
It will make a tremendous difference.  It did for me.

I hope this helps you.  At least it's a place to start.

Thanks JB,

I aready have the Nvida set up correctly, just like the Nhancer would tweak it.  I did see the simviation post a month or more ago by Nick Nedham. 99.99 percent of what he recommends on the link I have already done.

I do think I have duplicate or old  FSX.cfg entries for "trusted" Captain Sin C-130 gauges from when I installed it the first time then unistalled it from the sim completely. May need to clean them out.

I may just get rid of ithe C-130 altogether until I build up a more powerful computer ( processors) and switch from SP-1 to SP-2

It's think it's all those gauges and functions that are kill'n my sim FPS .

I just don't understand why such a dramatic swing in performance from mine to similar systems and in game settings, considering I done most of the correct tweaks also particulary those mentioned above.

Maybe it's my 25" WS monitor, which is set at 1900 x 1200 x 32

Thanks so much

Doug

I have an E6400 overclocked to 3.1GHz and an 8800GTX. I am getting 30-40FPS. To me, the problem is clearly your computer. Make sure you eliminate any background tasks.

Nhancer as suggested has some great tweaks. Also make sure you read the tweakguides for Windows XP/Vista.

There is no magic bullet. It is a combination of everything honestly.

For what it is worth, here's what I found recently. I did this because of things i read that said SP2 fixed a lot of framerate problems. You might want to try....

I'm running an XP machine, AMD 64 bit 3800 (2 GHZ) with 2 gig RAM.
NVIDIA GeForce 8500 with 256meg video memory.

I did a clean install of FSX, and loaded FSX SP-1, which is what you have. Installed the FSX C-130 and had about 8 to 10 framerate.

I then installed FSX SP-2, and the framerate number doubled. I run a pretty consistent 20 FPS, with sliders at about 60% of max range (medium high).

Not sure if SP-2 would help you, but I noticed a difference.

Doug,

I found a series of great FSX and System Tuning articles on the simviation forums by user "NickN" and used them this weekend on my sim.  I now have much improved visuals and did not lose any FPS from what I had before.  You could use the same in order to improve your FPS some, I would think.
