What is the purpose of dispensing flares before an airdrop in a C130?

The C130Xperience manual says to dispense them right before airdrop, but why then in particular?

Any reason?

Perhaps they mean you should drop illumination flares prior to a para drop?

Problably so aircraft following you know you are dropping so they can avoid an accident.
