Fuel Consumption

What should my fuel consumption (PPH) be when cruising at say 18000. I get 17000PPH, the higher I go the more it uses.
I cannot possibly cruise at FL300 as I would not make 4 hours in the air.
Another thing - my 4 gauges show 3000pph each which should = 12000PPH but I always appear to use about 3000 - 4000PPH more, Why is this?

Thank you in advance for your response
Kevin

Hi.

Its very strange???  My B707 can fly for 10h at FL390. I did that a couple of time from Corsica to La Reunion island. A 4550 nm flight. Okay there is not much remaining in the tanks and much below the regulation, but it can do it.

Andre.

Okay, there is a few things that may be doing this... first of all, you may have your power settings on max. You'll know this by looking at the tachometer (it should point at a high number)

second: Like Captain Sim said, you may not have loaded enough fuel. Therefor, do what they say.

third: In TCE, you've put in a lot of weight. Therefor, the airplane will use more power to keep it flying.

Hope this helps.  Wink

It's true. The FF gauge has a bug who reduce the FF shown around 30-40 %. For example 2700 pph shown, 3900 pph real (checked with a other panel or the tool AFSD) Sad. Not easy to drive engines with EPR bug, N1 not easy to read, and this bug.....
Bye

I have a question about your fuel flow problem. Are you computing fuel flow baised on the entire flight? If so, your fuel comsumption at takeoff will be much higher because your engines have to produce more power for climbout. Take a look at the guages on climbout and you will see the fuelflow is almost 5000lbs/h that will make up the difference from what your guage shows at cruise.
