Hi,
Nice pictures.

Can someone explain the following :

In the first picture : Is that a window removed/missing from the wind screen? Or just a trick of the light.
And secondly : Why would you want to turn off the taxiway warning lights?

Thanks in advance

And in ignorance.

The window is just a trick of the light.

On my unit we often work in black out conditions. This is for the use of night vision goggles.

Those are for the rotating lights (kind of like a railroad crossing) that warn vehicles that there are approaching aircraft (there's two roads that cross the taxiway).

Sorry to say, the 1710 crashed soon after this thread started. Not sure on the exact date, but the crash happened after I left my last unit in early jun and before I checked in to my new unit mid july. No deaths, just minor injuries.

Here's some more pics to satisfy any curiosity. IIRC, It currently resides inside Hanger 3 in Kodiak.

It looked like props #1 and #2 were in reverse and #3 was either at ground or flight idle. By the looks of it, best guess would be that a low pitch stop failed to retract on the right side during throttle transition from flight idle to reverse on rollout.

Hi again,

do you guys have beta lights installed? I've heard that the EIDS without beta lights can be a dangerous combination (torque display is so heavily damped that confirming low pitch retraction can be next to impossible)...

Should've waited a few more potatoes before going in reverse!  You can never be too careful with those props, especially if landing distance isn't a factor.

No. No EIDS either, but I can imagine a damped digital display causing all sorts of issues like that.
