Title: P3Dv4.5 - all CS products CTD
Post by Adamski_NZ on Mar 12th, 2020 at 10:34am
This started with (what I thought to be) just a 757-related problem, but it turns out that *all* my CS aircraft now CTD after selection, on clicking to "fly".

This is with the 737, 757 and 777 - all the latest/correct (P3D4) installers.

So far, I've repeatedly uninstalled and reinstalled (as admin) with and without firewall and a/v - all to no avail.

This is with P3Dv4.5 and Win10 Pro x64 (fully up to date) and latest FSUIPC (paid/5.153).

I don't get a serial number prompt when reinstalling. Maybe I have some sort of general CS activation issue <???>.

All my other "study level" aircraft (other, another company, A2A, QualityWings etc.) are running fine, so I don't think I have an inherent P3D or system problem.

What to do? H-E-L-P!!

Do you need any more info?  TIA,

Adam.

I updated Windows 10 Pro on my PC with the latest security update (2020-3, or something like that) the other day, and on the restart, it wouldn't boot back into Windows. After about an hour of troubleshooting, I wound up restoring to an earlier time (earlier that day), then using Safe Mode to get back into Windows, restarting back in to Windows normally, and all was okay. Ten minutes later, it was asking me to restart after installing the update again, and I'm sure to can understand my apprehension to it doing that, but I did the restart and all went well.

Anyway. Having told you my woes the latest Windows update caused for my Windows 10 installation, my Captain Sim products (the 737, 757, 777, and L-1011) are working fine in P3Dv4.5 (4.5.13.32097) after that problem.

Thanks for the help, folks. It turns out I needed to disable Windows Defender (Firewall) as plus my Comodo firewall well as all a/v during install. However - *after* install, I found I still needed to turn off the Comodo firewall as well as a few options in my MalwareAntiBytes a/v suite.

I have two comments about this:

1) SECURITY: I work in I.T. - and there's no way people should be expected to disable *both firewall and a/v* to install a product. I've seen systems compromised within seconds of being unprotected. I don't know of any other flight sim add-on (that I own at least) that expects this.

2) When running the sim - and getting CTDs due to improper activation - at no stage does an error box pop up to indicate that something has failed. The sim simply quits. This is not what I call user friendly.

In spite of these two moans, I'm delighted to have my 737, 757 and 777 working again!

Adam.

Adam, thanks for your comments which are both fair, we are working on them.
The problem is that Windows and some third party AV software pretend that they have a right to judge what is right and what is wrong.

Tell me about it!!! It's a constant battle  ::) and the very latest MS updates aren't exactly helping are they?  >:(

Anyway - thanks for your positive response - much appreciated!
