Unable to select aircraft (FSX)
Aug 25th, 2021 at 5:13pm
Print Post
Hello, every time I select a variant of the 757 PW pack and click ok, my sim hangs. It worked with no problem a few months ago on 1.5, then I had to uninstall it for storage.

I've tried reinstalling both 1.5 and 1.7, the problem still occurs. A screenshot is attached below. Any help would be appreciated.

Regards,
Chris Z.

Hello,

I've tried the steps in the post above and the full reinstallation instructions, it didn't work out. Windows Security did not show any indications of it blocking anything related to CS products (Real-time protection and Tamper Protection, exclusion was added).

Furthermore, I saw the options of updating/repairing or uninstalling while reinstalling the product back. This happened to me previously as well.

Regards,
Chris Z.

Go to C:\Users\<YourUserName>\AppData\Roaming\CaptainSim\x572, or open the Run Command (Windows Key + R) and enter %APPDATA%\CaptainSim\x572, click OK, then delete the key_x572.dat file.
This will allow you to reinstall the 757 Captain III (757-2PW) Base Pack 1.7 [FSX/SE/P3D3], needing to reactivate it using Instant Online Activation, or Manual Offline Activation.

Note. I suggest you delete all the relevant files for the 757 III in FSX:
FSX\Captain_Sim\757-III
FSX\SimObjects\Airplanes\CS_B757-200-III_PW2037
FSX\SimObjects\Airplanes\CS_B757-200-III_PW2037_4D
FSX\SimObjects\Airplanes\CS_B757-200-III_PW2040
FSX\SimObjects\Airplanes\CS_B757-200-III_PW2040_4D
making it a totally new/clean install.

Hi Mark,

I was able to get a clean installation of the 757 following your steps, appreciate your help.

However, the old problem still persists.

Try this.

1. Add the folder where the 757 Captain III (csx572_1700.exe) is located to your AV's exceptions list.
2. Add the D:\Steam folder to your AV's exceptions list.
3. Reinstall the 757 Captain III (make sure to Right Mouse Click on csx572_1700.exe and select "Run as administrator" from the list that  pops up).

Hi Mark,

I did a complete reinstallation of it without the Windows Defender trying to block the installer, and ran it as administrator as well. I was still unable to choose the aircraft in-sim.

Sincerely,
Chris Z.

May be dumb questions but:

Did the aircraft folders install into the right folder? (SimObjects)

Are your aircraft.cfgs, panel folders, .air files, and model folders all present?

Within the aircraft.cfg, are there fltsim sections?

Are the panel.cfgs properly aliased?

Hi Alex,

It's a yes for all the questions above. I noticed a jump in panel.cfg, from Windows07 directly to Windows11. I don't think it is causing the error but it might be a clue.

Can you elaborate? Maybe with a screenshot?

Hi Alex,

[Window08], [Window09], [Window10] are missing. Here are the lines in panel.cfg:

[Window07]
Background_color=1,1,1
size_mm=255,920
windowsize_ratio=0.73
window_pos=0.818,0.058
type=special
visible=0
ident=11107
gauge00=../../CS_B757-200-III_PW2037/panel/y757.P11_2D!P11,   0,   0, 255, 152
gauge01=../../CS_B757-200-III_PW2037/panel/y757.P11_2D!P12,   0, 153, 255, 152
gauge02=../../CS_B757-200-III_PW2037/panel/y757.G02_2D!G02,   4, 305, 248, 155
gauge03=../../CS_B757-200-III_PW2037/panel/y757.G02_2D!G04,   4, 460, 248, 155
gauge04=../../CS_B757-200-III_PW2037/panel/y757.P16_2D!P16,   0, 615, 255, 153
gauge05=../../CS_B757-200-III_PW2037/panel/y757.P17_2D!P17,   0, 768, 253, 152

[Window11]
Background_color=1,1,1
size_mm=237,300
windowsize_ratio=0.8
window_pos=0.0,0.058
type=special
visible=0
ident=11011
gauge00=../../CS_B757-200-III_PW2037/panel/Captain_Sim.x572.sys!adi_l,   0,   0, 237, 300
gauge01=../../CS_B757-200-III_PW2037/panel/y757.general!L05_001_2D,   0,   0, 237, 300

All the .dll, .cab files listed in the sections are present in /panel, therefore I don't think that is the problem.

Thanks,
Chris Z.

That's intentional, so it's the same in my panel.cfg for the 757, and has nothing to do with not being able to see the aircrft in FSX/FSX-SE. However, if any of the .mdl files are missing (x572_101.mdl, x572_101_interior.mdl, x572_101_interior_fdo.mdl, and x572_401.mdl), that could be a reason for not seeing the aircraft, but it would/should also give you a messsage that says it's unable to load the aircraft. It's worth checking to make sure those files are in the Steam/SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\FSX\Captain_Sim\757-III\models folder.

Can you attach a copy of the csx572_1.700.log file found in the C:\ProgramData\CaptainSim\FSX\x572 (or C:\ProgramData\CaptainSim\FSX-SE\x572) folder as this file could show an error during the installation, that might show the cause of your problem.
