Ins stops Working in Flight

Hi
When I load a flight plan, everything looks ok. The ins is aligned and set to nav, and works just fine. After TO I engage the auto flight system and auto throttle and the aircraft begins to follow the flight plan.
After a while the “heading ” light goes out, and the aircraft turn around and head  back in the opposite direction, and the  autoflight system can’t  be initialized again, This happens on all flights and I am out of ideas. Any help is welcome. The aircraft is one of the best looking in my hangar, and behaves basically really well, so I will hate to turn her into a hangar queen.

Kindly

Jakob

IMHO,this INS is completely screwed-up.

I too have experienced not so much as your HDG light going off, but the aircraft not following any waypoints as programmed in the INS, except either 358 degrees North when it's supposed to be heading South on 207 degrees, or off to 178 degree if manually put back on track.

As it stands, there is only one place this aircraft is going to----straight into the Hangar!

Problem solved Smiley
I was under impression that the nav button just above the alt selector on the NAVIGATION MODE SELECTION PANEL should be engaged together with the course button. That is NOT right. After some eksperiments I cracked the kode and when I only use the HDG  button, everything works smoothly. Together with flightplans generated by my atc program I must admit, that this product has, by far the best working autoflight system I has tried in any CS aircraft (and I has tried almost all of them). The L-1011 is now a joy to fly. Smiley

You really should not have needed to do any experimentation, because on page 55 of the ‘1011 Captain’ MANUAL Part II – Aircraft and Systems, it tells you that with  the NAV Source Select Switch set to FMS, it will follow INS route under the following conditions:

FMS - autopilot in HDG mode tracks CIVA-INS flightplan.
       - HDG Switch should be engaged
       - NAV Switch will be automatically deselected
       - Heading Bug on Captain's HSI will be controlled by navigation system.

Except that it says that the NAV Switch will be automatically deselected, while I think it really should say that you need to turn it off manually. Wink

I agree. That confused me and I got it wrong.

But as I wrote: Everything is sweet now Smiley
