A sheer waste of time!

This INS has a mind of its own.The minute it is switched on, it goes from HDG271 to 32. Why, wherefor, not a clue. It is not even listed anywhere as track waypoint!!!!

This aircraft and its INS is a complete joke!

It's interesting to see that you see the entire 1011-base.pln in the INS when you load the L-1011 into P3dv4.  I only see KJFK in the INS, but in the Flight Planner, I see the entire route.

As an exercise, rename/backup the 1011-base.pln  (found in the Documents\Prepar3D v4 Files), then retry my saved flight. You might even want to try the default flight KVPS to KJFK, and see if the INS will at least track that route.

I just tested renaming the 1011-base.pln, and was surprised to find that the INS still worked fine for me! Shocked

Over the last couple of weeks, I have downloaded the installer, csy112_1000.exe, several times. Unistalled/reinstalled the 1011 II Captain several times. Tested with/without the Hotfix 1001, and the Hotfix 1002, and yet for all that, I'm not having any major troubles with the INS.

On the track to KJFK, but then I must have taken my eyes off the ball, as I was making the descent, despite selecting 250kts for the descent, the A/T all of a sudden switched off and it went haywire, but the main point being, this time the INS actually worked as per.

Now to try the next step, EGLL-LEMD, and see if I can crack that INS at last.

Well, well, well. Renamed your Base.pln, then decided to re-try that EGLLLEMD.plan, and amazingly the INS followed the track

More or less following the flightplan. A far cry from what has preceded before. I wonder if doing that earlier flight on the Base.pln cleared some gremlin?

Not quite 100% bang on the track HDG but at least heading in the right direction, towards LEMD.

Late night now, so will give a shot tomorrow again.

The fact that in all of the images of tracking the EGLLLEMD route, you appear to be off the route by the about the same distance, makes me think that your alignment is off by that margin.

For testing purposes, I recommend that you do the Zero Drift Error Feature.

Zero Drift Error Feature:
- data Selector - DSRTK/STS
- press REMOTE
- when REMOTE illuminates you will see increasing digits on the left display
- press key 3
- REMOTE will extinguish
- if you press REMOTE again
- you will see 0

Drift error is erased and will not increase in the current flight.

This way, the L-1011 will always be on the magenta route line in the map, so if your alignment is off, then you will know that's true, and not the drift error that occurs over time with the INS.

Many thanks for the immense assistance you have been in this very long thread to get me this far. Fully appreciated.

Will do re:alignment, and report back.

Thanks.

That's it!!!!! I am wasting no more time with this aircraft. Period.

Yesterday, I had it follow a route, loaded in the INS, albeit, a bit off the true alignment, but nevertheless, heading South towards its destination.

This evening I load the same FP same aircraft, same Rwy, etc, etc everything teh same. Did the same AP functions, and so maddeningly, the aircraft heads North.

Even re-checking the INS showed the FP loaded correctly and as per what it ought to be, yet the aircraft has a mind of its own.
