Reinstall in windows10 (x64) ?
Aug 14th, 2019 at 7:27pm
Print Post
Not very happy at the moment. Despite attempting to install my favorite FSX a/c it's proven frustrating. The plane shows, with sound. No landing lights or gauges,( All blackened ) Have compared to how the installer places the files in windows 7 32,...To no avail. Is it compatible with win.10 (X64); Please help.

Make sure to turn Windows Defender off, as well as your Anti Virus software off, before/during installing it (see this topic: No gears, no animations, no gauges etc).

Did all of the above Mark. Then a xXXX Key was produced.I didn't know what to do with it ? I copied it to my FSX Folder and restarted the sim. Nothing new happened...No gauges !? I also checked where the key places itself during installtion  in windows7 32 and put a copy of it in the same folder. nothing happened here either ?

The Key_xxxx.txt is required to complete a Manual Offline Activation.

When you run the installer again, you need to select Manual Offline Activation > Use a Key etc. > browse to the Key_xxxx.txt (and select it) > Install

When does one select during installation..."Activation"? At the begining or the end??
Any suggestions?

Decided to try 2.6 installer...Still didn't get the activation page  CoolI'm bobbing in deepwaters.

Open the Run: command Start Menu > Windows System > Run (or it is faster\easier to press the keyboard shortcut - Windows Key + R), or navigate to the C:\Users\<yourusername>\AppData\Roaming\CaptainSim

Type, or copy and paste %AppData%\CaptainSim\,  then press OK

Delete the p721 folder (p722 folder for the 727-200 Expansion Model, and p723 folder for the 727 Freighter Expansion Model).

Run the installer for the 727-100 Base Pack, 727-200 Expansion Model, 727 Freighter, and you should be asked to Activate them.

Still no joy Mark  Undecided Did all the above and I still get the panel with no gauges, and the 2D panel don't show except for the GPS Panel.

I must say I have restarted computer now many times and maybe Defender has activated again, maybe that's what going on ? I'll be giving it another try tomorrow: I've also C/P the key many times maybe I need a new one ? Not sure? Get a message that the key is invalid.Though I found it in AppData\Roaming\captainsim folder, where I suppose it goes by default ?

After you create the Code_p721.txt, go to https://www.captainsim.com/activ/offline.php. Once there, you see what the page like you can see in the attached image.
Once you get there, you have to click on the Browse button > find the Code_p721.txt and select it > click on Open
Checkmark the I'm not a robot, and verify that you are not a robot
Then click on Get a Key > Save the Key_p721.txt file (and remember where you save it)
Run the CS 727-100 Base Pack installer (current version is csp721_2700.exe) and when you select USE A KEY RECEIVED FROM CAPTAIN SIM browse to the save Key_p721.txt, and select it, click on Opem, and then click on the prompts to conyinue with the installation.
It should work after you have done all that.

Turn off your Antivirus Program, and Windows Defender when installing, or one of them will delete any files it considers to be a threat (virus). There are NO VIRUSES in the Captain Sim installers! But if they think there are, they are called a Flase Positive, meaning it believes they are viruses, but they are not.

Okay. The p721.dat is not your concern, it is created in C:\Users\<yourusername>\AppData\Roaming\CaptainSim\p721 folder once you successfully Activate the 727-100 Base Pack.

1. Uninstall the 727-100 Base Pack
2. Delete any Code_p721.txt, and Key_p721.txt files you find, and delete the p721.dat file.
3. Turn your AV, and Windows Defender OFF (if you don't one of them might delete some important files during the installation, which will prevent the 727 from working).
4. Install the 727-100 Base Pack, use Manual Offline Activation, and when it asks, select GENERATE AND SEND YOUR SYSTEM CODE, then close the installer.
5. Save the generated Code_p721.txt to you Desktop.
6. Go to this website: https://www.captainsim.com/activ/offline.php, and Browse to your Desktop, and select the Code_p721.txt, then select Get a Key.
7. Save the Key_p721.txt to your desktop!
8. Run the 727-100 Base Pack installer, select Manual Offline Activation, and when it asks select USE A KEY RECIEVED FROM CAPTAIN SIM, browse to the Desktop and select the Key_p721.txt you just saved there, and when it gets accepted, complete the install.
9. Turn your AV, and Windows Defender back ON.

Repeat the above for the 727-200, and 727 Freighter if you have any of them.
The files are Code_p722.txt, and Key_p722 for the 727-200 Expansion Model, and Code_723.txt, and Key_p723.txt for the 727 Freighter Expansion Model (and delete the p722.dat, and p721.dat, which are found in C:\Users\<yourusername>\AppData\Roaming\CaptainSim\p722/p723 folders)

Start FSX, load a CS 727-100 and everything should work.

How frustrating, I've tried so many times I just got an error message, that I exceeded the number of attempts ? Does this mean I lost the software ?

No. You haven't lost it, you just need to contact Captain Sim, and have them unlock it again for you. Wink

Maybe your AV, or Windows defender, has deleted a file after you finished the installation.

Captain_Sim.r001.P04
civa

Excluding the two gauges I use bold print for, the rest are .CAB files, witch can be opened and view with a Zip program (WinZip/WinRAR/7Zip), so are not likely to be seen as any kind of threat to Windows. A missing Captain_Sim.p721.sys.gau is highly likely to lead to missing gauges, and is more likey to be seen as a "virus" (it is not a virus, nor is it infected by a virus, IF the installer was downloaded directly from www.captainsim.com) while the Captain_Sim.p721.wxr.dll will only lead to the weather radar being missing. If any gaugers are missing, you need to go to your AV Virus Chest/Vault, to see if they were removed, and if they were, click on them, and select restore so they are put back.

It is still likely that your AV/Windows Defender will continue to remove these "theats" (false positives), so you will need to add it/them to the Exceptions list, which will prevent this from happening, every time you try to use the CS 727.

Note. I have added FSX, FSX-SE, P3Dv3, and P3Dv4, to my AV exclusions list, so that stop it from scanning the files whenever I use one of those flight sims, and a Captain Sim product. I also added the location I have saved all of my Captain Sim addons in to the AV exclusions list, and this prevents it from deleting any "threats" during the installation of them. Windows Defender is always OFF on my PC, but it ON on my laptop, but it doesn't seem to affect my Captain Sim products installed on it.

Hi Mark, thanks for your fallow up! I have given this a lot of thought and maybe the fact that guy that helped me install FSX\Gold into this machine let it install by default into Program Files (x86), even though I had already created a folde in my C:\ for him to install it in. And eventhough I have tried to gain permissions and Full Control of the file it hasn't helped  Undecided All gauges are present in my panel folder.I am also searching for help and advice at avsim.com:https://www.avsim.com/forums/topic/557883-dx-issue-fsxgold/?page=3&_fromLogout=1

Why not uninstall FSX, and then reinstall it in the location on the C: drive that you already set for it? Doing that won't affect any of the settings you have done for FSX, because uninstalling it won't remove anything from the C:\Users\<YourUserNam>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX folder, so the settings will carry over to the install of FSX in the new location. Doing that would remove all the restrictions that Windows is placing on the FSX install in C:\Program Files (x86).

Everything you need to know about uninstalling/reinstalling is in Reply #10. Make sure you delete the folder with the p721.dat file in it first, as explained in Reply #5.

It sounds to me like you need install FSX somewhere else, and not in C:\Program Files (x86). Quite a few advanced addons come with the recommendation that FSX not be installed in the C:\Program Files (x86) due to Windows strict control of that folder, and everything installed within it.

Right Mark I'll get to reinstall A.S.A.P. and will report when  I'm done.It might take me the rest of the week...

Thanks for your support and guidelines above. Just realized Acceleration is not in the list of Programs and features in Control Panel, meaning the guy that helped me didn't install it, since he let FSX install by default in program files (x86)doesn't help but a complete reinstall into a new folder under my C:\

SUCCESS! Mark I installed Acceleration, and the 727 cockpit loaded with gauges. Only (-) is the flaps indicators don't work/move. The sound confirms theire position though.

UndecidedAs lost as you  Mark. It has position sounds. Now that it works with Acceleration installed BUT with the activation error message most are getting, what if I were to fix the error message by doing the suggested fix and going into that registry key. ( NOT SURE YOU HAVE READ ABOUT THIS?) Wasn't there once a problem with the flaps indicators and there was a fix and the NAV/GPS switch says Marker Low (Upper) High ( Lower) Checked 727 ver. 2.7

I'm not sure which version added NAV/GPS, but I'm using v2.7, and it is displaying NAV/GPS (this is in FSX/Acceleration).

I am also using Acceleration and my version is:
727 Captain (727-100 Base Pack) v2.7\n(c) 2015 Captain Sim www.captainsim.com
My switch shows High/Low ? In Windows10 (x64) Computer. Just open FSX\Accl. in my old windows 7 (x32) And the cap727. The Switch NAV/GPS displays there very transparent; Next to Master Test and Dimming Switch, which I don't have either in the windows 10 installation  Undecided  ?

Taking into consideration that I had installer Activation Error and got dark gauges at one time, this could be the cause of this ? Hopefully I don't have to reinstall. Can you send me a new switch, or guide me how to edit it.

Looking at the image you sent to me via email, you can see the NAV / GPS on the switch, but it is "merged" with MARKER HIGH / LOW texture. I can only assume that it is either a graphics error, or a setting in FSX is causing the background texture for NAV / GPS to be semi-transparent.

Reinstall the csp721_2700.exe, and use the "Repair" option when given the choice to Repair or Remove. Make sure you turn OFF your AV, and Windows Defender, and that you run the installer using the "Run as administrator" option (right click on the installer, and select "Run as administrator" from the list (2nd from the top)).

By reinstalling the 727-100, you will reinstall all the VC textures (along with everything else for the 727-100), and hopefully it will correct the issue with the NAV/GPS switch. Reinstalling will also overwrite the aircraft.cfg, so if you have any added liveries, you will need to re-add them, or you can backup the current aircraft.cfg prior to the reinstall/repair. Do not replace the original aircraft.cfg after the reinstall/repair, until after you have checked to see if the NAV/GPS problem is fixed!

Hi Mark, thanks for your reply Unfortunateely no joy on the "repair" attempt of 727. A Weird thing is that when i load another texture it shows, like for  fraction of a second a Blue mix of textures as IF it were FS2004. I've checked the version no. in the aircraft .cfg file and there it says 2.7.I hd lost my V-1 and Alt sounds, so checked the panel.cfg, were not there under any window, so Googled causes and one mentioned the MSVCR71.dll could be missing in windows10, did a search for it and cannot find it. Now the question is Who\Where\How

Although I doubt this is the reason for the NAV/GPS Switch texture, as I checked it out last night after I received your email (I actually thought it might be the problem), you may have the Preview DirectX 10 checkmarked (the box is ticked). Go to the Menu > Settings > Display, and on the right side under Global options you will see a box to the left of Preview DirectX 10. Make sure it is unchecked (there is no tick in the box).

That will/should at least stop the fraction of a second a Blue mix of textures when loading the 727.

Note. The only time I have had success with the Preview DirectX 10 settings, was when I used a program made by SteveFX called DX10 Scenery Fixer (it isn't installed at the moment, so I do not have Preview DirectX 10 checkmarked). I'm not even sure if this is available any more, but it cost me $AU37 back in 2013.

I really don't know if the MSVR71.dll is there, or not. I have not had to download, and install, that file, and the 727 works fine on my computer.

Note. As you can see by me PC specs in my signature below, I'm using Win 10 Pro 64bit, but my laptop was originally Win 10 Home 64bit, and the 727 worked fine on it, and continued to do so even after I upgraded it to Win 10 Pro 64bit.

Hi Mark: I've looked aand searched for the MSVCR71.dll everywhere in my windows10(x64) Installation,, but can't find it. have found though information about it in The internet that Windows10 and MSVCR71.dll are not good friend and  the later has a tendency to dissapear from windows sys. folder. Don't undertand why when i had FSX installed, default I installed 727 and it worked fine, then three days later it strikes. I did some manual changes to the 727 installation to see if  recovered the sound, must test and will report...Thanks again for your feedback.

JUST DID A SHORT FLIGHT TO TEST V-1 AND ALT. SOUNDS. Undecided AFRAID THEY'RE SILENT. Cry Looking again I do not have the CAB File CALLOUT_SMALLJETS In my Gauges Folder ? I do have it on my win7(x32) Installation. Await advice?...

I found that MSVCR71.dll is installed on my computer in quite a few places, with, I guess, the most important one being C:\Windows\SysWOW64 folder.
It is also installed for MS Office 2016, Adobe (I assume for Creative Suite CS2), AORUS (Graphics Card control program for overclocking/fan speeds), the game Splinter Cell Chaos Theory (which I thought was uninstalled), and eSelerate (I think this is for the FSL's ConcordeX). You can see all of this info in the attached image.

As for the CAB file CALLOUT_SMALLJETS, I don't know anything about it. I searched for it, but it is nowhere on my computer, yet I am still hearing ALL of the callouts for V-1. The sound files for V1 are found in the FSX\Captain_Sim\727\sound\V-One folder.

No. I can't find a CALLOUT_SMALLJETS.cab file anywhere in FSX.

The only file from the V-1 for the CS 727, that would be found in the FSX\Gauges folder, is the dsd_fsx_xml_sound.gau file.

Found the NEW texture mode by Texture Mod by Kenneth Hudgens III and installed it. Still wonder why it wasn't already included in v.2.7 ? Wink

It actually is included in the 727 Captain v2.7 (see attached image (installation without any modifications, or changes)).
I can't understand why you are not seeing the NAV/GPS markings above/below the switch once you  have installed it.  Undecided

Hi Mark, thanks for your reply and support. You have fallowed me through, here in the forum, with this issue, just by chance and Google memory I found the NAV GPS Texture amongst the 727s' free textures library and installed it. I don't and hope  this computer I bought is not a dudd.I have updated everything windows allows, before I installed FSX\Accl. When I installed the 727 I tried different Direct X's to experiment with the texture, Nothing fixed it. I also have v2.7 in my old win7 (x32) Computer and there it displays since 2.7 came out and I installed. Image just to show I got it, note my image contrasts in comparisson to yours, maybe and obviously a difference in GC.

Different computer, settings, and graphics catd will make a difference. Maybe you use a higher gamma setting (on the PC, not in FSX) than I do.

At least you have the NAV/GPS displayed now. I think your persistence to get it is greater than mine would have been, as I would have just flown the 727 without it, as long as I knew that is what the switch does. Wink

Or maybe I had the panel lighting on, have to check that before I start to find other reasons...?
The switch when set on GPS makes the plane(s) fallow a GPS route. As for what the High/Low Switch does ? I have no idea.
Might take a bit of the fun out of it, since you'd let the plane fly itself until you get close to your destination, and beggin getting vectors to  land.

Anyway lots of fun. Cool

The switch would still control following either the GPS or VOR regardless of whether it displayed MARKER HIGH / LOW (isn't that how it was in earlier versions anyway?), which is what I meant by not having the persitence to get the texture to match what the switch does. Wink

Up to v 2.6 when the switch was introduced the marker High/Low texture was changed to NAV/GPS and yes when i downloaded v2.7 it displayed NAV/GPS As it did in my win7x32 computer.

When I installed Cap727-100 in this win10 (x64) computer it didn't display and even after many installs and downloads but High/Low, only until last night when I google and found the texture in the free liveries library I downloaded and installed; Call me visual perfectionist, I didn't even test if the switch worked and/if the plane fallowed a GPS course.
