"AUTOPILOT" EICAS message on landing
Jun 6th, 2019 at 7:39pm
Print Post
Hi,

When performing an ILS approach and disconnecting to fly the landing manually, if the touchdown zone is missed, the EICAS message "AUTOPILOT" and an aural beeper is triggered. I assume this is because the aircraft has passed the end of the glideslope.
The G/S annunciator on the FMA is crossed with an amber horizontal line, as per the manual on Part 2, Page 95:

"An amber horizontal line is drawn through the appropriate autopilot pitch or
roll mode annunciation when a flight mode fault is detected."

I have watched several videos of 757 landings with the ILS G/S signal visible on the PFD, but have not heard the beeper or seen the EICAS message.

Please inform if this is considered a true 'flight mode fault' or should G/S remain annunciated normally throughout the landing, thus not requiring this EICAS message or beeper?

Thanks

I get exactly the same thing. Every single ILS approach. Becomes a bit annoying!

Do you think it's a real behaviour of the aircraft or an issue?
As far as I know some of the aural alarms should be inhibited below a certain altitude on landing, to avoid crew distractions on final approach, but the manual only mentions inhibited comms alerts such as SELCAL or cabin messages. Not 100% sure on it.

It is not real behavior, at least not on our 757s at UPS.

Ok, thanks a lot for sharing your insight into the real world 757.

There is therefore likely an issue with the systems logic when receiving this message on final approach. Could CS please consider this?

Thanks for the reply.

I have no further info on the alert but will continue to look at the manual

After recently looking into this one further, the manual states the following regarding this caution:

"Autopilot (AUTO PILOT) Light:

Illuminated (amber) -
- a degraded operating condition exists in engaged autopilot" (part 2, page 97)

and

"Message: AUTOPILOT, Level: Caution, Light: AUTO PILOT, Aural: Beeper
Condition: The engaged autopilot is operating in a degraded mode.
Engaged roll and/or pitch mode may have failed." (part 2, page 115)

The message is appearing during a manual intervention of ILS Autoland after disconnecting the autopilot with MCP APP mode selected, and the autopilot is no longer engaged as per the conditions for the caution.

Is a hotfix possible to improve this for FSX 1.503?

Is the aural you're hearing the master caution/warning? Or just the A/P disconnect horn?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g185mUtaiSU

You can hear here after an autoland the AP is disconnected at 1:57 on the ground at about 30 kts, and the horn goes off

It's the master caution beeper and yellow EICAS message reading just "AUTOPILOT".
Please see the screenshot on reply 5 in the thread, the caution occurs above the runway touchdown zone when the aircraft is configured for autoland and the autopilot has already been disconnected on final approach for a manual landing.

Thanks.

CS,

Since this system logic has been fixed in 0.95 of the 767, would it be possible to receive a quick hotfix to adjust the message in the FSX 757?
I assume the upcoming 1.6 will no longer support the 32-bit version, so it would be appreciated if this bug could be addressed for FSX as a final improvement within the 1.5.

Thanks for keeping FSX support on the 757 for so long.
I look forward to trying out the 767 when moving into 64-bit towards the end of the year.

No plans for hotfix, but most likely the FSX 757 will get an another major update, the 1.6.
