Can't get the C-130 to work
May 10th, 2019 at 2:15am
Print Post

After installing the C-130,when I select the plane from the start up screen, FSX shuts down in seconds.

I look at the help posts (one asks for he ABC code to show I've read the post but can't see a ABC code)… but can't get in installed correctly.

I've done three uninstalls and reinstalls to no avail.
Last time I installed the base pack, I wasn't asked for any activation codes... I was going to try the manual install rather than the online, but wasn't presented that screen.

I'm on a new PC with Win 10, FSX.
Any ideas on what to try next.

The C-130 is my go to plane because I like the speed but it can land at the shorter runways too.  I fly in the Pac North West USA.

Thanks for any help,
Mark

Check out the sticky posts in the General Support forum. It will help you with troubleshooting issues, and the best way to install, Captain Sim products.

Is that FSX or FSX Steam?

If a complete reinstall does not help, then it looks like the product (which is 12 years old and built for windows XP) is not compatible with your new PC setup.

The C-130 X-Perience installs, and is working fine, in FSX, and FSX-SE on my PC, and in FSX-SE on my laptop. Both have Windows 10 Pro 64bit installed.
Unfortunately, I have no idea why you can't install it, if you are following the instructions in the sticky posts in the General Support forum. Undecided

Note. The C-130 X-Perience was copied from FSX to FSX-SE (not installed), on my PC. However, on my laptop, it was installed directly into FSX-SE.

So are you saying I can try to copy the CaptSim folder from my old PC (laptop) to the new PC and it may work?  I thought they needed to be installed because of something that might happen in the registry.

As I recall there was something down in the C:\Users area as well.

I did a File Explorer search for "Captain" from the "this PC" item in the left window pane and I deleted What I could (most were web links and empty folders).

No. That's not what I'm saying. That won't work because it has been activated on a different PC, so the registry/activation code will be wrong. I was just explaining that on my PC, I copied everything for the C-130 X-Perience from FSX to FSX-SE (once installed in FSX, I only got the Repair/Remove ooptions when I ran the installer), and it works by doing it that way.

In Windows Defender, add the location of the csp131_1300.exe, and the location of FSX, to the exclusions list, then reinstall it, and try loading a C-130 in FSX.

Also. Make sure that all the files seen in the attached image (there are a lot), are in the FSX\SimObjects\Airplanes\CS_C130\panel folder. If any are missing, then that could be why the C-130 causes FSX to Crash to Desktop (CTD).

CS_EX1_KC130\panel folder, there is a Captain_Sim.c130.tk.cab file.
CS_EX2_AC130\panel folder, there is a Captain_Sim.c130.weapon.cab file.
CS_EX2_C130\panel folder, there are the Captain_Sim.c130.anim.cab, and Captain_Sim.c130.awacs.cab files.

Note. I suspect that the .CAB files will be there, but some of the .GAU files, in the CS_C130\panel folder, might have been removed by you AV, or Windows Defender.

Mark, didn't see your message until now, busy weekend with grand kids!

So this is where I am with this... BLUF, I can fly the C-130 and it seems to work.

I copied the entire C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X

folder off the old PC and copied it over on the new PC and it works.

The only thing I have see so far that's not right is the 4 engine  gauges.  When I first load the percent gauges move a bit, then go up100% and stay there.

The engine sounds varies with my throttle, the plane behaves as I would expect, its just the gauges don't move.  None of the  engine gauges in the center move.

I''l go back and look at your post more carefully.

If I make the jump to FSX Steam, will this plane load into there, or do I need to buy another version?

I found all of the files in the correct folders.

I guess it is more messed up than I thought.

Also noticed the autopilot Power light up doesn't stay on, the nav radios don't seems to work and  the HSI Just spins and the needle doesn't deviate.

Probable other stuff I haven't found.

As far as the engine gauges, I found the EICAS gauges and they react the same way... go up to 100 % and stay there. Cry

This is sure a head scratcher!!

I can't get the 130 to work anywhere near properly without re-loading it.

Markoz,
If I got the FSX Steam Edition, can I install the C-130 I already have in there, or do I need to buy another version?

Do you think FSX SE will run the C-130, or would I expect the same problems?
