Stabiliser Trim Klaxon On Take-off

Okay, I am aware that the stabiliser trim lever is on the left of the  throttle quadrant. I am also aware that moving the lever up/down to match the green bar-graph with the white graph in theory sets the matching stabiliser trim.

So how come, on take-off I get that klaxon sounding off and the warning signs showing 'config', etc, etc?

There are numerals on the Trim Indicator - 0  2  4  6  8  10  12  14 - and when you setup the aircraft, in CDU, on the TAKEOFF REF page, you are given trim information, i.e. TRIM 3.45, so you need to set the trim as near to that as you can (see attached image). If you have set the trim at the maximum of the green bar, 7 (half way between 6 and 8), then your trim is probably set to too much nose up, which could cause a stall after takeoff.

The only times I can remember hearing the warning horn, and seeing the config warning, is when I have either not set the flaps to my TAKEOFF REF settings, or I have not trimmed the aircraft. I normally do both of these things just after pushback/engine start, but sometimes I get distracted and will miss doing at least one of them, sometimes both. Embarrassed

Note. I tend to set the trim a bit higher than the CDU recommended setting. In the case of the recommended trim being 3.45, I would normally set it at 4.

Thanks for that. Stupid me! How could I have missed that in the CDU as in another developer's range of aircraft, that is what I always look for, before setting that Trim lever, and was so familiar with the process in the MD-11 pre-flight setup.

Now, at last, thanks to your image and tip, alas, no more warnings.

Where did you get your 27% CG setting to give that stabilzer triim setting from, which I copied off your image in your reply previous? When I previously pressed Take Off Data REQUEST, all I got was the take off speeds after choosing a 15 Flap

You can find it in the CDU > MENU > Setup > Fuel and Payload > CURRENT CG (shown on all 3 pages).
BUT...By right clicking on LSK3L, on the TAKEOFF REF page, it will insert the current CG setting in there for you.

Note. By right clicking on the LSK's, you might find some surprises like I did! Wink

Good Morning and Thank You for that because, last night when I did a medium-haul flight,  I did not get that klaxon after following your tips.

And as for simmers moaning about VNAV and SPD con trolled descents, managed both with no problems, and at night with limited VFR visibility.
